Thanks Chris!!! Your hired!!! You can make the top as long as you want to. You can even make one side longer... kind of like an L shap instead of equal size.
Id like to point out also, it cost me 110 for wood and the kreg jig screws. I already have paint, and the kreg jig, so If you don't have them, this project would cost 130ish. Still, Im glad I found these plans! thanks!

Only thing I would do different really is rip the boards to make them square as opposed to the rounded edges, and add some 2x4's underneath in order to take some twist out of the top because of some board issues. Other than that, inexpensive solid and easy to make desk. Thanks for the video

You can use it with 4x4s but its not the typical use! Use a larger clamp to clamp the jig to the 4x4.... Do this on opposite sides of each other for best support! A Kreg Vise Clamp will not work as they don't open enough. Hope that helps some!!!
Hey! I’m following this step by step. Mines a bit longer though. My question is, on the table top portion that meets the brackets/legs, did you do it flush? Or did you leave overhang?
It doesn’t seem like it? It seemed like an inch or so, maybe I’m confused. Where the 2x4 brackets screw into the table top. How much overhand does it have all around

Amaury Natalie Moreno he explained most of the cuts in the video aside from the top itself. I'm getting ready to build this and the top cuts just depend on how long you want each side of the table to be. For me, one side will be 6 ft and the other five. Just layout the boards in the same pattern he did and then measure and mark the necessary cuts. For the screws he used 1.5 and 2 inch pocket screws. He didn't mention the size screws that he used to attach the braces to the legs but I would assume they are 2-2.5 inch wood screws. The legs are 28 inch, base pieces are 14 inch, braces are 14 inch with 45 degree cuts on both ends. Hope this helps!
WHat Tony said!!! Lol.... I’m really sorry that I’ve been so busy that I’ve been away from YT the last 2 weeks! I really thank you for the measurements you have here!
What I am wanting to know is, which size pocket screws did you use for table top and which ones did you use for attaching the feet to the legs? I'm guessing 2 inch for the feet and 1.5 inch for the top
If I go with building the frame under the desk top, would I need to anchor the top to the frame or with the boxed design of the it just settles to the frame?
Atleast 300 😔 jk still somewhat affordable but not like this . Crazy that old youtube videos are becoming like those pictures of the 50s when was was under a dollar lol
My go to size for 2x4’s Pine is the 1.5” Coarse Thread But when working with 4x4’s I’d go with 2” due to the weight and depth allowance. Hope that helps!!!
Thanks for the vid. Just got done sanding and staining the tops. Quick question, I made the tops 5 deep instead of 4 like you. glued and pocket screws, think the legs and braces are enough? Legs are same height, 16" feet.
Hmmmm.... in too sure honestly. You don’t want to be too front heavy especially with the weight of leaning on it to tip forward. There is a picture of me sitting on the desk in my community tab too. Maybe offset the legs forward a bit to help balance some. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Great video, subscribed and headed to home depot! I would have liked to see a shot of the finished product but thats ok. I'm plannin on doing a steel wool/ vinegar stain on mine.
If you can eyeball your 2x6 so there not warped or crowned really bad.... go for it! You will need to buy the Kreg Jig so you can do pocket holes and use a bead of glue along the edges for added strength. Clamp it all together and connect with screws. You should be fine! I did not use a Jointer or table saw on this project! 👍
Hi! They’re 4x4’s an I believe they were 30” but you can adjust to your required height. Also this is just make from construction grade pine.... nothing too special! Although something like oak or walnut would be awesome put more expensive for sure!!!
Before you did your cutting, did you sand? Plane? Square all your boards with a table saw? I'm totally copying this, but am using red cedar as the table top. Have any finishing recommendations for that?
U used an adjustable clamp to hold the KJig on the 4x4. Its the only way to make it work.... they don't make a clamp specifically to work like that. Gotta use one of those life hacks! Hope that helps some!
5:35 - 5:40 -- best 5 seconds of the video. Naaah I'm joking, good work brother. I built a very similar desk, but I framed up storage space on the opposite ends.
Once the three legs were built I just set the top on (once I got it in the room) and screwed It on straight up from the bottom side. I used 2.5” screws.
You can try but they usually don’t do precision cuts. They definitely wont do the 45s for the cross braces. Start off with used or cheaper tools and build from there!
Was wondering... any suggestions on how to make the desk sturdier if I were to add a couple more 2x6's to add depth? Nervous if I make it deeper, the brackets won't support it.
If you make it deeper you will only need to extend the bottom of the legs to prevent potential tipping. I have to say I use the desk Everyday without any tipping! Hope that helps!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Awesome looking desk. I'm worried about how much weight it will withstand. I have some old radios that weigh about 100# each and the desk will be L-shaped 96" x 30" with a depth of 25" And of course most of the heavy stuff will be on the 96" part. What do you think? I do like the fact that it's clear underneath, no bumping of knees.
quick question @KalindsLife, did you use just run of the mill lumber or one grade up? Also i was looking at kreg recommendations on the screws because i can't find 1.5 inch coarse thread near me and they recommend 2.5 inch coarse thread when attaching 1.5 inch thick boards to one another. what are your thoughts?
You definitely can use the 2.5” screws! And yup.... I used plain ol builders grade pine! If you check out my community page... there’s a pic of me I posted of me sitting on the table....... with my dog!!! Someone said it wasn’t sturdy and I had to beg to differ!!! It’s a great deal to this day!!! Thanks for watching!!!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman i went ahead last night and purchased all the lumber for this project, i'm going with a 7 foot side and 6 foot side, was also wondering if you used pocket holes at the tops of the 4x4's to the desk top or just the holes in the 2x4's at the top?
Hey Ateven! Awesome! I just did the 2x4s up into the top but You can add a Pocket hole from the 4x4 up for some added stability! Good luck with the build!
I’d like to make this desk but it would be my 1st project. I’d want to make it maybe 1 or 2 boards wider. Where does the supports from the leg to table top need to meet to offer maximum support?
Not at all!!! It’s solid as a rock! Check out my Community Tab.... there’s a pic of me sitting on the top! Hahaha! Just shows how sturdy it really is! Thanks for watching!!
I know this is an older video but we are going to build this desk this weekend for my craft room. Can someone tell me how the top works out with the groves from the wood 2x6 on top? Do things get in the crack? Do you have trouble writing on it?
Hey Marsha!! We looove this desk and it’s so sturdy. I will say that I do not write on it unless I have a writing surface and yes that is basically due to the seams where the 2x6’s meet. As far as things getting in the cracks.... no. If you use a bead of glue and pocket screws like in the video it will pull tight enough to eliminate any gap between boards. Thanks so much for watching and hope I was able to help!!
Glad i found the video as I have been looking for an easy but good looking desk idea. My question is if i were to go 5 2x6 deep, would i need another 4x4 leg or 2 for support?
Thanks so much for watching. I’m not sure to be honest but you might be able to extend to support to help. I’m just afraid it would be front heavy and tip forward. I have not have had this issue with 4 and the depth is perfect.
Yes. You can change it up if need be to fit your room and liking. Remember..... Lowe’s doesn’t guarantee exact measurements. I would recommend going to harbor freight or look on FB Marketplace for an inexpensive miter saw and cut exact measurements yourself! Good luck and have fun! Thanks for watching!!!
Check out my community tab. There’s a picture of me holding my dog while sitting in the dead center of the desk. She didn’t budge or make a creek one bit! Thanks for watching!
How much for the kraggig cost? Where would I get one at the cheapest price just for this? Thanks. Sweat desk. I’m going to do this for my security system I’m installing, monitors, computer and more. Thanks.
Ok! I added a link in the description for the exact jig i have. I use it all the time and its super easy to use!!! It is an affiliate link so if you purchase there... i do get a small % so thanks for considering that! Thanks for watching again!
I watched this video a while ago and used pre stained wood from an older desk to recreate a corner desk with your staggered effect adding a corner triangle so I’m not stuck in the corner. Awesome video. HOW did you connect the 4x4’s to the desktop?
Awesome Mike! Thanks for watching! You can connect 2 different ways.... #1. Drill and screw from the topside down into the 4x4. (I don’t like this way as the screw will be visible felt the top) #2.... Pocket Holes. Drill a 1.5” pocket screw from the bottom side up into the top. Hope that helps!!!
I'm considering making this. How hard would it be to sand down the top to the point that it feels like one smooth piece? (I don't want to feel any grooves)
If you were to do this you would need a Jointer and Planer which is quit costly tools. You might be able to use a belt sander to take off some of the top after assembly but the amount of work and time this would take.... even I don’t know that! Good luck with your build and thanks for watching!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Thanks for the reply. I don't know much about this stuff, but would it be hard to acquire 2x6's that aren't rounded at the edges? I assume that would then require significantly less sanding. How would this effect the cost? I suppose I could also get one giant board and cut that down to size? Biggest I've seen though are 4x8 meaning I'd still have to attach a piece on one of the ends. Thanks in advance!
You might be able to get some premium pine and use that. Glue it together to create a thicker top. Usually Lowe’s has 1x6 in premium but not 2x6. Your cost might be a bit higher but you would achieve the effect you want.
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Would making it normally (what you did in the video) and then doing some sort of epoxy finish to fill the gaps and flatten the top be a viable solution?
LoL. It does sound and look weird but its crazy! Look at my Community Page. there is a picture of me and my dog sitting dead center of the desk! Its strong as heck!
Kalind. I apologize if you already said... did you build that sub top just to support the building of the legs or did you put the 2x6's on top of it for the finished project?
Jason it’s ok!! I ended up scrapping the frame sub top. It wasn’t nessassary to use and just added extra weight. I attached the three legs directly to the 2x6 top. It’s extremely sturdy and standing strong to this day! Thanks for watching!!

Hi! They’re 4x4’s an I believe they were 30” but you can adjust to your required height. Also this is just make from construction grade pine.... nothing too special! Although something like oak or walnut would be awesome put more expensive for sure!!!
Love that Computer desk i would like to have the extractions on how to build one like that .
It’s a really easy build! If i weren’t recording I could have made this in about 2 hours tops. Thanks for watching!!!
Before you did your cutting, did you sand? Plane? Square all your boards with a table saw?
I'm totally copying this, but am using red cedar as the table top. Have any finishing recommendations for that?
Nope! Didn’t do any of that. I only cut the boards to length. I plan on weather sealing it In a few weeks to extend the life. Thanks for watching!!!
How many total inches or feet of 2x6s were purchased?
Nevermind, I found Chris H other post. Thanks. This is on my project to do list.
I’m need to pocket hole- for the 4x4’s- how do I set the jig? It only goes up to 2x4 size.
U used an adjustable clamp to hold the KJig on the 4x4. Its the only way to make it work.... they don't make a clamp specifically to work like that. Gotta use one of those life hacks! Hope that helps some!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman what size screws did you use for the 4x4 the 2 1/2”
Any advice on how to joint if instead of a herringbone/staggered pattern I want to make the top out of two sections jointed together?
The only thing I can think of is cut the ends at a 45 degree angle and pocket screw them together from the underside. Hope that helps some!
5:35 - 5:40 -- best 5 seconds of the video. Naaah I'm joking, good work brother. I built a very similar desk, but I framed up storage space on the opposite ends.
Hahaha!! I had to go back and look! Thanks so much for watching! Sounds cool about the storage. Wish I could see it! Email me if ya want!
how did you attach the legs to the top? pocket screws?
Once the three legs were built I just set the top on (once I got it in the room) and screwed It on straight up from the bottom side. I used 2.5” screws.
Could you have a hardware store pre-cut these parts so you can just put the pieces together? I don't have any cutting tools.
Thank you this really help to see it kinda done in the process
Awesome! Glad it helped out some!
Hey Chris. What are all the cuts of the 2x6s
Building tomorrow, tnx!
How did it turn out
@@heheaov5623 great, I made one side really long so a added an L shape leg between the corner and end legs.
I’d like to make this desk but it would be my 1st project. I’d want to make it maybe 1 or 2 boards wider. Where does the supports from the leg to table top need to meet to offer maximum support?
Just adjust the depth of the base to accommodate the additional boards..... you don’t want it too front heavy to be able to “tip” forward.
I really love this desk, my husband plans to make one. I was wondering if you had any trouble with the top of the desk warping?
Not at all!!! It’s solid as a rock! Check out my Community Tab.... there’s a pic of me sitting on the top! Hahaha! Just shows how sturdy it really is! Thanks for watching!!
Did you take the rounded edges off of the 2x6s?
I didn’t! You could Plane down if you wanted a smother top but we like the farmhouse look! Thanks for watching!
HI,SO NICE,SIMPLE AND HELPFUL.THANKS.
Your absolutely welcome!! Hope it works out for you!!!
Thank you! I’m so excited to make this.
Marsha Hanshaw your gunna love it! I have a few more House Furniture builds coming soon so stay tuned!!!
What type of wood was used?
Just construction pine you can buy from Lowes or Home Depot!
Pocket screws won't allow the wood to expand will it?
No. You should be good!!
Are these the exact measurements? Just asking because Lowe’s will cut it down for me and then I can put it together if so
What can you use instead of 2x6
You can use any 2x# really. You just need to watch your measurements
What kind of tools to make the cuts?
Miter Saw is all you need. You can use hand tools if you want to be nostalgic but that will take some time and energy!!! Thanks for watching!!
How much weight does it support
Check out my community tab. There’s a picture of me holding my dog while sitting in the dead center of the desk. She didn’t budge or make a creek one bit! Thanks for watching!
Do you have to stain and paint?
I did stain the top and Chalk Painted the bottoms
How much for the kraggig cost? Where would I get one at the cheapest price just for this? Thanks. Sweat desk. I’m going to do this for my security system I’m installing, monitors, computer and more. Thanks.
Hey there! I’ll add a link to where to purchase in the description today! Thanks so much!!! I love my Kreg Jig!! A must for any DIYer!!
KalindsLife thanks a lot.
Ok! I added a link in the description for the exact jig i have. I use it all the time and its super easy to use!!! It is an affiliate link so if you purchase there... i do get a small % so thanks for considering that! Thanks for watching again!
Great video! What did you set the Kreg jig at when you drilled the leg holes?
Thanks Gary!! I believe it was set at 1” and used 1.5” course thread pocket screws!
Hello I measured 1.5 inches back and used 2.5 pocket screws! Worked great
@@chunte37347 Thank you
I watched this video a while ago and used pre stained wood from an older desk to recreate a corner desk with your staggered effect adding a corner triangle so I’m not stuck in the corner.
What kind of wood did you use?
Good ‘ol fashion pine 2x4, 2x6 and 4x4,s!!! Thanks for watching!!
Check out my newest commuinty post!
i dont understand, what is holding it in the middle? Anyone do this concept in a U shaped desk and have any link to that?
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman thanks sir, can't wait to try the build. 😀
How much weight could that surface hold?
I have a Mac with duel monitors, a printer and a Circuit machine amongst other random stuff on it. I not sure of the Suggested load weight but I’m sure it will hold a few hundred pounds no problem. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video man. Fucking legend. I want to make a U shape for my brothers computer and this is perfect. He’s a bit overweight so I was thinking of adding extra supports on the inside corners. Let’s see how well the plumber can do. Will be watching this several times. Stay well friend
This comment is Legend!! Thanks so much! If you go to my page in the community tab you’ll find a picture of me sitting on the corner of the desk holding my dog! Its super strong bro!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
Would this desk hold your weight if you sat on the middle corner? Seems like there isnt much support there.
Please Please check out my community tab!!! There’s a picture of me holding my dog doing just that!! Sitting on the corner!!!
This thing is strong as an ox!!! 💪
How much did all the material cost?
This was a fairly cheap build.... about $100 total...
I'm trying to find the entire shopping list & cut list. Is that available?
I don’t really have a shopping list or cut list. Sorry.
i'm making an L shaped desk just like this one, different table-top piece though, going to be the exact same kinda legs, 5" shorter
Awesome!!! I hope it turns out good for ya!!!
you are a creative genius
Awe Thanks TSU!!! Thanks for watching!!!
Did he ever finish the top, like dead flattening it with a planar, and filler, and also wonder what finish.
If you check out my community tab, I posted a picture of the desk. Thanks for watching!!!!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Great video, and build. Best one out there- desk design.
Can you post a complete shopping lumber list as well as a cut list? Do you happen to have drawings with dimensions for this desk?
Unfortunately I do not have an exact lumber list or drawings. I kinda just purchased what I thought I would need and went from there. You can adjust the length and depth to your personal needs and run from there! Sorry Im not much help today!
I’m glad my dad has left over wood from his work imma ask if he can teach me how to make a desk frame.
Great build..... Do You set your Kreg Jig at the max 1 1/2" for this wood thickness?
I believe that is correct and I use the Course Thread 1 1/2” screws. Thanks For Watching!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman What pocket jig did you use for all of this? Will the R3 work for everything?
How sturdy do you suppose that inside corner is? Want an easy l shaped desk for my first project just want to make sure it will be functional as a computer and work station.
It’s actually really sturdy! Use wood glue and a the right amount of pocket screws and you’ll be set! Thanks for watching!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman I have my doubts, you're relying on the sheer strength of the screws and none of the weight is being directed to ground.
I can respect your thought but this desk is Extremely sturdy, strong and heavy too!! It’s still rocking stong without ANY sag or bowing or shrinking. I will add that a bead of wood glue along the edges could add for that exta security you may be looking for. Thanks for watching!!
Hey Zach! Check out the picture i just posted on my community page.... might change your mind a bit!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman hey will do have a link? I only think the way I do from years of aquariums stand building. Look forward to seeing what you posted.
I really want the plans for this desk but not in description?!
Dang it! I could have used this video 2 weeks ago when I made mine.. I wanted the L shaped but just settled for the regular, unmodified plans because I was nervous about messing up.. I love this!!
Dang thanks for watching!!! Maybe you can make this one next time!!
How do you attach the desktop?
Pocket holes from the bottom side up through the 4x4s. Hope that helps.
Would of loved to see the finished result with paint & stain.
There is a picture I beleive on my community tab
What are the dimensions of the top of the desk??
I’ll get back to you on this!!
KalindsLife ok think you
Did he reply to you? If so, what was the answer?
Great video! What camera do you use???
Thanks Pondiver!! Believe it or not... this was on my iPhone 6s Plus. Right now i have an XS Max that I use and love it. Not sure if I will but looking into a Canon EOS M3. Thanks for watching!!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Thanks for responding! I wanted to take a leap and get a camera with time lapse just like you had in the video. I have always been an android guy, so the Iphone is out I guess. I'll look into to the camera you currently use. Thanks alot!
Diff look into the M3! It’s compact and not crazy expensive and will do great for YT and Vlogging. Has a port for external mic too!!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Awesome! I love the farm desk. Its exactly what I'm looking for. Excellent work. Pocket holes are a terrific idea verses biscuit jointery to join the table top together. I shared with my wife so that I can get started.

I was hoping the video conveyed that
Where is the supply list? I want to make this for my home office.
I’m going to update my Website withal the info. Sick in bed which sucks so give me a day or so! Super easy build!
Its so annoying that noone sells any corner desks that are actually of a decent size. Everything is so god damn small.
I'm a year late getting here but enjoyed the video and the project. Would really have liked a finished, finish shot of the desk to see what you... whup, never mind, found it - looks great.
Hahaha! Was gunna say.... check out the community page. I posted a pic! Thank for stopping by! I’m going to be doing a few more farmhouse furniture pieces. As a matter of fact I’ll be doing one next week!
Hi, is a cut list available? I have been having bad luck with trying to order a quality desk. I am just going to build one.
Ive been so busy at work I've not had a spare minute to add but Ill try to do that tonight! I keep forgetting!!!!
I pinned the cut list that Chris H called out. I mentioned the cuts in the video too. Thanks!!
Anyone have the table top cut sheet?
There really isn’t a particular cut sheet. You can make them as long or short as you need. Just cut them 5.5” shorter than the next one so they stagger or stagger and just cut off the excess (which is what i recommend doing) thanks for watching!!
Great looking desk my question is. How did you or what settings did you set your Kreg jig R3 up at, looks to me the R3 is to small of a jig to use on the 4x4's!! Please Help
It can be use but you cannot use a Kreg Jig clamp. I used a standard 8” quick release bar clamp! It works wonders!
