Once again Tom explains an issue I am having in an easy to understand matter. I have had 7 golf lessons in person and noone has been able to explain to me how important the shoulders are, its always just grip grip grip and weight shift. Thanks Tom!
Unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of modern “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness. Thanks for your message - I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! I’ve watched more than my fair share of golf videos and instruction. At some point I realized there wasn’t a fix or hack or easy way and kept watching to gain more understanding and try to figure out how work through my swing faults. I’ve tried to drop it in the slot, let the club fall in the backswing, and just about any of the you name it ‘conventional wisdom’ The instruction in this video is everything I was looking for. Clearly explained, especially why I hit it fat or thin or pulled and every once in a while ‘crispy’. Little did I know the few times I was doing it right were because my right shoulder was rotating as it should and all the mis hits were when it stalled. Wow! What a revelation. This is something I can focus on and work on. Instead of trying to think through all the things I need to do in a second, only to have things not go the way I wanted. Now all I have to do is rotate my shoulders back and then all the way through. The fat, the thin, the weak hits, pulls all vanished as I focused getting my right shoulder past my chin. Shots were crisp, the right height, and straight. It was magical. The best part is it’s repeatable and I know if I mis hit what I need to do. I went back to the range and had the same success the next day. The guy next to me commented on ‘my nice swing’ something no one has ever said to me. Thank you Saguto golf. Tom explains the why, what, and how to do it so well. So many things go right and get fixed with the motion of the shoulders. Its brilliant!

Hi Tom. I commented a few days back that I have taken a few items you teach to the range and the results were very positive. Today, I took those things to the course for the first time and shot an 82. I haven’t shot an 82 in decades. Not only did I beat my playing partner for the FIRST time EVER (we’ve been playing together for a long time), but on a par 4 I hit an approach shot from 180 yards out, put it about 6 feet past the hole, and it spun back into the hole for an eagle. Unreal. I sincerely thank you for your time spent giving us your nuggets of wisdom.

Hi Tom, I'm brand spanking new to golf, like 2 weeks in. I would like to share my experience so far. I started with zero knowledge and went golfing with a 2 year amateur. We both sucked but i had fun. My main take away from the experience was that the golf swing doesn't feel natural. I hated hacking at that damn ball with all my might just for it to go no where. I want YOU to know that this video alone corrected and MADE my swing. My first clean hit was... Astonishingly addictive, and crisp. From that moment on i been trying to get back on the course as much as possible. I'm loving it, and every video of yours that i watch opens my eyes that much further. You are by FAR the best golf instructor i have ever watched and i have tried several with literally zero real world results. You successfully took 40 strokes off my 9 hole game and I'm not joking 😂. These pawn shop and thrift store clubs are putting in the work! 1974-1998 assortment so far, i have a little bit of everything. I'll be happy when i master this John Daly driver! 😂 Thank you for making golf feel natural, and fun... - A new Happy golfer

Tom, I’m 63 years old, I have been playing golf for over 50 years, I’m a decent player and have tried many swing changes over the years. Recently, I watched many of your videos and have been using your swing while practicing at the range. I am hitting the ball solidly and have gained distance. Today I played and used your swing by setting my weight forward, keeping the left arm straight and tilting/turning my shoulders. After a couple of shaky holes with the driver, I settled down and trusted the swing and played great with 10 pars and 1 birdie! I love the swing and feel that I can continue to dial it in and play even better. Thanks for the great videos and keep them coming, maybe a putting video in the future would be helpful. Mike P

I just put to practice with my backyard net what you taught in this video and OMG I think it really is a game changer! I’ve been going through a crisis the past 4 weeks with contact. I tried this shoulder to shoulder swing you demonstrated. I place my ball, moved my weight forward swung shoulder to shoulder and hit the next several shots perfect. The best part is that I didn’t even think about striking the ball. It was like the club found the ball without me trying to make contact. Fantastic!
YES! I’m very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Mark; excellent job incorporating it into your swing. If we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom Saguto, PGA

It took me about 3 range sessions to finally "get it" and trust the mechanics of this swing. I was an over the topper and I often reversed pivoted. I started with some 7 iron punch shots focusing on Tom's fundamentals. Crazy thing is that I compressed the ball for the fist time in my life. Effortless punch shots were straight and 135 yards. Built up to full swings and I was ecstatic. Can not wait to play a round !

So this is more a general comment about your channel. I'm a 56 yr old player who until about a year ago played maybe once a year. I've watch a ton of yt videos but have settled on you and Alex Elliott as my two go-to instructors. I've taken bits and pieces from both of you that have give me some aha moments. Last night I played 9 and had my best round ever. It just clicked. I chipped in from just off the green and just didn't have a blowup hole. I shot a 42 which by far is my best 9 ever. To be fair, I took one mulligan on a tee shot so legitimately it was a 44. It was also from basically the "white" tees and was only 2800 yds. I'll still take it! Thanks for all your content! Oh, and I have no illusions as I'm sure my next 9 holes will be more like a 52-53 to bring me back down to earth.... Thanks again!

Tom. I am 15 hcp. I have keyed in on 2 of your videos. I have been working on this for the past 2 months. Results were and were not there. In my morning round. I went to the golf course with this only swing thought. Tilt and Turn. Club on path all day. Couple of miss hits as I did not go into my pre-shot routine. I am happy to say that this morning I shot a 77 off our Blue Teebox, which plays at 6300 yards. Of course I also had 8 one putts. Thank you Tom. I will be reaching out to you for online lessons starting in November. you are a class ❤act. Thank you.
That is outstanding, Gaetano - congratulations on a fantastic round!! 💪💪 I am very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Another great lesson. For some reason I was under the impression that we were supposed to slide our hips forward in the downswing but this dropped my rear shoulder causing fat shots, thin shots and slices. I am now turning my rear shoulder under my chin and through and your right this fixed a lot of problems.
Nice job, Jeffrey!! I'm very glad to know that this resonated with you, and I appreciate you validating the lesson with your results! When properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips you mentioned acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place..) _This will occur naturally by allowing the shoulders to drive the motion,_ but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. While there are other certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks again for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! Thanks so much, Tom!! So many people make this game way more complicated than it needs to be. My right shoulder is nearly frozen from multiple surgeries and forgetting all the fluff most other instructors say has helped dramatically. Your concept of just staying fluid through the swing and not pausing has basically eliminated my shoulder pain on the course. I didn’t realize my back shoulder was doing that exact pause, I think from being skurred of the big chunk… now I just flow right through it and the iron face just barely cuts in with almost no resistance instead of feeling like a dang shovel in clay. Got through 18 for the first time the other day without any ibuprofen lol. Definitely gonna be getting the mini course and likely signing up for the paid stuff. Thanks again for keeping such a simple game simple.
OUTSTANDING, Brad!! I’m very glad to know that my instruction powerful and body-friendly system is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. 💪💪 Thanks so much for sharing your dramatic pain-free improvement, keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing you soon in the online school where you can take your learning and your game to new levels!! Have to say, playing to a low hdcp of 49yrs, this is one of the best explanations I’ve heard to keep it simple, for all of us, this really works! Well done Tom
I sincerely appreciate that, Whitney, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! Thanks so much for your message and support!! Tom
Updated results: 2nd session at the range using tee in left armpit feeling, delaying hip turn on backswing and downswing, and getting right shoulder past the ball. My 7 iron prior to this change would go 190 on a solid strike, but now I am hitting my 8 iron the same distance. I also experienced better contact/control with my 4-6 irons, which I normally am afraid to hit. I tried a few things from your teachings several years ago but it never clicked. It has now clicked. Thank you!

I have struggled for years with inconsistent strike as I have a huge tendency to lean back, especially as the pressure comes on. I’m a 15 HC but can shoot anywhere from 84 to 104 dependant on whether my timing is on or not. There’s some haters out there but Stack and Tilt has changed the game for me. It helps me get through, and strike is so much better. Last 4 rounds have been early 80’s at tough courses in the UAE, and I’m now really starting to trust it, and believe that the shot is gonna be good and not bad. Your stuff really does work for people in my situation. 😊
Sadly, Garry, Stack and Tilt was relentlessly attacked by the "mainstream" of failed "instruction" whose erroneous concepts were threatened by the truth, and their nefarious efforts successfully - albeit temporarily - attached an undeserving "stigma" to the S&T name among those who chose not to do their own research. The bottom line is this: The body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. We can watch any Tour event on TV today and we'll see a significant number of players executing motions consistent with the S&T system, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Thousands of folks across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within that realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). Great lesson and great reminder. I lost contact for a few holes Saturday and my game was sucking. I went back to Saguto fundamentals and got back! All is right with the world. Thanks Tom!

If you want to play great golf, then watch Saguto golf. You truly will play the best golf of your life with stack and tilt. It will fix your swaying, over the top, slicing, backswing, downswing etc. It's a damn shame that stack and tilt isn't taught as much it should be. It's probably by design so the instructors flood you with all these swing thoughts so you have to keep working on them and keep coming back for lessons. Great video again Tom. Logical and simple.

I have already commented a few times since working on my swing with Tom's concepts. Tom, it is working and with this video you explained how to get power by moving the right shoulder through the swing. This will help because I was getting more distance but not exactly as far as I wanted with say my 8 iron. It was good but not excellent, now I know what to work on...1. set more to the left, 2. fire the right shoulder. You have me working on the right stuff and I am both grateful and excited to once again hit good shots.
Fantastic! I'm very glad to know that this lesson clicked with you. Hopefully it is the missing link that will give you that extra speed through the zone! Thanks again for your support and keep up the great work! Tom
Excellent video Tom. Its amazing how the shoulders move the hips - not the other way around. We are all told to deliberately shift the hips to start the downswing. They move naturally with the shoulders when you are swinging in this video.
Sadly, David, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Truth be told I do teach it both ways, and I do have lesson content on my channel specific to the hip action. When properly deployed in sequence our hips play a role in preserving our downswing path and they can certainly provide a power boost. When prematurely rotated, all bets are off. For example, the lateral targetward action of the hips acts as a governor on the rotational component, thereby enabling the player to keep their upper torso square and their swing center intact without having to fight their body. It's also a move that you will notice with every great ball striker. (Cue up a face-on video of any Tour player, put your finger, mouse pointer, or some other reference tool on their lead hip at address, and then observe the extent to which the hips move laterally past your pointer in the downswing while - and this is key - the head and thus the swing center remains in place.) This will occur naturally if we allow it to - as demonstrated in this video - but unfortunately the misguided "fire the hips" notion has plagued so many amateurs with an early-onset spinout that makes them steep and across the line, or they get stuck, early extend, flip, etc. For them, the "feel" of the shoulders leading will help them to overcome this, correctly engage their hips, and fix their path, thereby leading them to a solid, "crispy" impact condition. In more general terms, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my UA-cam content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thanks for your message, and I hope this lesson performs well for you when you put it into practice! Tom
Tom , you are golden my friend. After taking an in person lesson from you in 2020 I have been enrolled in your golf school . This might be the eureka moment for me. I have been working diligently on the right shoulder moving past the ball. At 70 years old with 2 knee replacements and a right shoulder replacement I may be hitting the ball better than I EVER have. I’m currently a 6.1 index , my swing yips are gone and I’m enjoying the game more than ever. Thank you !
That is *OUTSTANDING,* Bill!! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is continuing to perform well for you. Thanks for the most excellent progress report as well as the online school testimonial, and keep up the FANTASTIC work!! 💪💪 Tom
Tom your great. ! I’m senior golfer and always looking at Freddie Couples growing up wanted that swing! Even not that long ago people tell me how does your ball go that far ? IT’s benefits solid squared club face especially with the clubs made today! Been ST for years it’s so pure ! Still hit 8 iron 145 ! Love it!

loving the vids Tom, I have just returned to golf after quitting due to severe yips 8 years ago (too many swing thoughts). Was down to 18 handicap and best round was an 82 (10 over gross) but only got worse and worse to the point even standing over a putt I would end up with an air shot!!! So here I am starting from the beginning and sticking only to your videos and swing thoughts, already seeing an improvement on the range although early days. Many thanks for helping me get back on the horse

Wow, for me this was the missing link. Some years ago I did your online-school and I became a new golfplayer. But I struggled with the downswing. The shoulder to target-video was the solution of my problems. This simple change made me in 15 minutes to a much better ballstriker. I still cant believe it. Many thanks. Rudi from Munich

Pretty much nailed it! I have always struggled with my swing due to my Rear shoulder starting to the ball vs the front shoulder pulling away. I find when the pull from the lead shoulder initiates the swing, the trail shoulder has room to travel through. Great content!

Your videos are so easy and to the point Tom. You really have made the golf swing easy and i can attest to that after having my swing broken by my latest pro due to him making me have to many moving parts in my swing (Weight transfer, handsie release, not explaining shoulder movement etc). Anyway did some practice at home swinging the club with the 4 pre-shot routine i picked up from your videos (Grip, right shoulder tucked, weight on left foot, straight left arm in the backswing) and one swing thought (turn shoulders through it in posture). Went to the range and was striping it unless of course one of my bad habits turned up (lead arm breakdown, loose grip which both were thin shots), but was easily corrected the following shot. One thing that amazes me is how straight and far every shot was going. Also that contact sound you could listen to all day. Anyway keep up the good work mate, your videos are fantastic.

I've improved my game so much the past year, just by watching, absorbing and applying Tom's instruction. I'm pretty consistently in the low 80's now and really enjoying the game. His instruction is very simple and easy to understand as well as easy to apply on the range and then the course. Lot's of instructors on UA-cam, tend to over complicate.

Hey Tom, I have periodically checked in the comments with score updates and today I shot my lowest score ever, 73, in a tournament. This is funny because it’s my first time breaking 80 and also that fact that it was in a tournament. It is only because of your videos that I have learned how to simplify the golf swing with stack and tilt without all of the shifting, lifting, and hinging. Loved this one too! Yup I’m officially a shoulder stopper😂 Great explanation! Thanks Tom💗 You truly are great at helping us with these wonderful videos. We are so lucky to get to watch these; so informative!
You always remind me of my one First Sargent when I was in the Army. He always said, “Slow is smooth and smooth is fast”. Totally applicable to my golf swing
I appreciate knowing that! In some ways golf mimics combat - albeit (mostly) non-bloody. Man vs. the course. Man vs. the elements. Man vs. himself. The latter is the most epic of battles. The swing motion can be counterintuitive to the brain, and as a result the mind and body are seemingly constantly at odds. It can be a truly epic struggle for those who are not well-armed with proper knowledge. Thank you. This is exactly why my driver-8 irons sucked Sunday. Trail shoulder stopping. I was “trying to aim” the ball too much and not trusting the swing. When I pulled out my 9 iron - 56° wedge, I was spot on with distances and aim. Teeing it up in the morning. Before I go to the course, I’m going to hit a few shots with the swing tip focus on getting both shoulders through.
Great! I'm very glad to know that this lesson revealed your issue, and now that you are armed with this knowledge I hope you are able to use it to the betterment of your game! Tom
I got my first Saguto Birdie!! I'm a newish player and you're so good! I'm recommending you to everyone I play with. Two questions 1. Head turns after right shoulder passes chin? 2. You have any suggested videos on consistently getting in the right stance - I play lots of hilly courses and struggle with this.
Well done, Krina!! 💪💪 I sincerely appreciate your kind words, support, and referrals, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! With regard to your questions: 1) The head should remain in the "box" preestablished at address at least until after impact. In fact, a steady head was Jack Nicklaus’ most important swing key as explained in this video from my channel's archives: ua-cam.com/video/E5csidjztzg/v-deo.html 2) As for how to get into the proper setup, we should first feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft. We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing. While there are certainly other videos on my channel that address these topics, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks again for your message and keep up the great work! Great timing Tom. I was wondering why my friends were out driving me all this time. My right shoulder wasn't going thru and stopping at impact and more of punch shots. I will work on my flexibility and have my right shoulder go thru after impact.
Sounds great, Cal! I'm very glad to know that this lesson was a timely on for you, and I hope it performs well when you take it out to the course! As for flexibility, It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Let's get you outdriving your buddies! I have been playing for about 6 months, and im 63 in decent shape, but arthritis is kicking my butt. Your videos have helped me tremendously. On this video are you keeping your arms stiff, or flexible and just straight. Thanks again.
Hi Bill, The lead arm is the radius of our swing circle, and as such if we desire ball striking consistency we should endeavor to preserve our radius from address to post-impact. Our lead arm should hang down relatively straight without any "forcing" at address. From there, as long as we have a proper setup which is supportive of an unrestricted motion we ought to be able to maintain the same level of straightness that we started with. This is not difficult to accomplish as long as we don't try to take it back beyond our body’s natural stopping point. It all begins with a good setup that facilitates an effortless 45 degrees of hip turn. From there all we need is another 45 degrees of shoulder turn to get to the full 90. If any of those turns are restricted by an improper setup, then the lead arm will fight the stymied torso and have a good chance of breaking down. As for the trail arm, it will fold to 90 degrees in the backswing and both wrists will hinge as a result, but as long as we keep our connections and arm structure intact these actions should occur naturally as if on autopilot and ought not have to be forced or consciously manufactured. With regard to your condition, you may be interested to know that the swing system I teach is a proven body-friendly method. I can vouch for that through my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, and It is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. I had two epiphanies at the range this morning. 1. Concentrate on the swing, not the ball. The ball is the result of the swing. 2. Copy / imitate Tom's swing.
Thanks for sharing that! With regard to: 1. Yes! It's so important to feel the transition in order to suppress the "hit" instinct - which plagues a majority of amateur golfers (the primary audience of this channel) - and get the downswing started in the proper sequence. 2. With regard to a body-friendly, low-maintenance, powerful swing that produces consistently crispy contact, you can have it too!! After all, it's really just physics and geometry, and those laws apply to the entire universe.... 😎 For an excellent starting point please check out my FREE mini-course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom
I've done quite a few on that subject of late. In fact, here's a recent one documenting an in-person lesson with Dave in which the proper shoulder action was trained and implemented: ua-cam.com/video/GC48wThdfeo/v-deo.html And while you can certainly search my channel for more on this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks - I'm glad to know that my content is resonating with you! I like your content because it reinforces what I'm already working on and I love the idea of moving the shoulders with an intact arm structure, so consistent and powerful! One thing that confuses me is that you seem to promote holding off the club through impact and I can only do it when I let my right hand pass my left after impact. Perhaps I'm not understanding something? Also are there any videos which show what to do on different lies: Uphill, downhill, ball above feet, ball below feet? Regardless thanks for the great content!
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Craig, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you! The abbreviated finish of some of my drill swings confirms the following: 1) We retained the structure of our arms and shoulders that we created at setup, 2) We had forward shaft lean at impact for crispy compression, 3) We moved the trail shoulder past the ball, and 4) We did not flip or roll our hands through the zone. As it relates to the full swing, to the untrained eye the stock finish for this system may have a somewhat "stunted" look to it, however it is simply the result of a very connected, powerful, and body-friendly motion for the same reasons referenced. Have a look at Tommy Fleetwood's finish, for example - he is one of the best ball strikers out there. And there are plenty of others on Tour whose follow-throughs are similar. There's no need for the shaft to whack you in the back, and for many in the amateur ranks that type of loose finish is an indicator of a breakdown somewhere in the swing motion. Now, with regard to this notion that we need to affect some type of _active_ hand-rolling “release", given the inability of most folks to spend sufficient time at the range to lock in the required exactness of such an action this misguided thought has led countless golfers astray. It's not something that even the vast majority of pros are trying to consciously manufacture during the split second that the clubhead is traveling a distance of approximately 6' from parallel to parallel at speeds in excess of 100 mph. _The forearms will naturally "trade places" from pre- to post-impact,_ but this should not be construed as a contrived move (although many a casual observer has gone down that rabbit hole). There really ought not be any active manipulation of the hands through the zone and attempts to precisely time any such rolling or flipping - which does nothing for swing speed - have relegated many an amateur to the vast abyss of inconsistency and frustration. Ideally, we should simply "allow" the hand and wrist actions to happen without forcing anything. In other words, if we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks for your message. I hope this explanation along with the free course aids in your understanding! Tom Saguto, PGA
PS: Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies are on my to-do list for online school lesson content. Having said that, the keys to playing a shot when the ball is below your feet are in 1) adjusting your setup to properly orient yourself to the ball (since it will be closer to you, your upper body will be angled more towards the ground than on a standard shot), 2) balancing yourself as you may need to feel your weight more towards the heels of your feet depending on the severity of the slope, 3) taking an extra club or two than you normally would from the given distance, and 4) aligning yourself with the expectation that the ball will fade. Once you are oriented, balanced, and properly aligned, you are ready to execute the swing as taught. Bump your hips forward an inch as you typically would so your weight favors the front side 55-60%, and when you take it back make sure that your weight stays forward and your shoulders do not flatten out as they turn, as they will have a tendency to do so due to their preset steeper orientation. In fact, a good thought for this shot is to keep the chest pointing down as you turn, since mishits from this type of lie are oftentimes a result of the golfer coming out of his or her tilt in the backswing. Conversely, a ball above your feet will necessitate having your upper body oriented for a less steep shoulder turn that allows the club to work more around the body, weight perhaps favoring the balls of the feet depending on slope severity, and allowing for a drawing ball flight. You'll likely need to choke down on the club a bit, and for this reason plus the curvature you may also want to club up for this shot, bearing in mind that the ball may tend to roll out more upon landing due to the draw spin. Once again, after making these adjustments you'll want to execute the swing motions as taught - weight forward, tilt/turn/extend, hands in, keeping your swing center intact. The short answer with regard to uphill and downhill lies is to 1) Match your shoulders to the angle of the slope, 2) Widen your stance a bit for stability, 3) Understand that an uphill slope is going to add loft whereas a downhill slope will reduce loft and produce more runout, so adjust your club selection accordingly, 4) Make a practice swing next to the ball to determine your swing's low point on that particular slope, and then address the ball so that the low point is just ahead of it, 5) Anticipate the potential for more draw spin on uphill lies and fade spin on downhill lies depending on the severity of the slope, and align accordingly, and 6) Do your best to keep your center intact as you swing since any swaying will shift your low point and cause inconsistent results. TS

Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100.

If they fixed your swing, you wouldn't go back. 😉
I’ve watched more than my fair share of golf videos and instruction. At some point I realized there wasn’t a fix or hack or easy way and kept watching to gain more understanding and try to figure out how work through my swing faults. I’ve tried to drop it in the slot, let the club fall in the backswing, and just about any of the you name it ‘conventional wisdom’
The instruction in this video is everything I was looking for.

I agree with all the previous comments. It’s amazing getting the cure after 30 years of golfing in misery most of the time.

Thank you for making golf feel natural, and fun...

You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
I just put to practice with my backyard net what you taught in this video and OMG I think it really is a game changer! I am a 60-ish woman working on my swing for the last 3 years and I love your videos. This one seems to fix a LOT of my issues with over the top, early release and wrist hinge problems.
Fantastic!

That's awesome - welcome to the wonderful world of crispy compression!! 💪💪

OUTSTANDING - congratulations on your new personal best!! I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.

Great video, can you talk a little about your grip?
Thank you.

Anyway, I am very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for your support in sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

Chest to ball and whole torso connected
Straight front arm
Practice bent over tilt exercise before tee off

I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

Love it!
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, and I'm very glad to know that you are enjoying and benefiting from my instruction content for this fantastic Stack and Tilt swing system!!
Thanks so much for your support in sharing your lasting success with it and keep up the fantastic work!!

loving the vids Tom, I have just returned to golf after quitting due to severe yips 8 years ago (too many swing thoughts).
Welcome back to this greatest of games!! I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing.

@@SagutoGolf thanks Tom, I will indeed be taking up the membership in the next couple of weeks and look forward to some crispiness very soon 👍

Tom
Pretty much nailed it!
I have always struggled with my swing due to my Rear shoulder starting to the ball vs the front shoulder pulling away.
I find when the pull from the lead shoulder initiates the swing, the trail shoulder has room to travel through.
Great content!
I appreciate that, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!!

That is *AWESOME!!*
And yes - unfortunately, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎
Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100.
Anyway, I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing. Thanks so much for sharing your crispy ball striking improvement and keep up the fantastic work!! 💪💪

I've improved my game so much the past year, just by watching, absorbing and applying Tom's instruction. I'm pretty consistently in the low 80's now and really enjoying the game. Hey Tom,
I have periodically checked in the comments with score updates and today I shot my lowest score ever, 73, in a tournament. This is funny because it’s my first time breaking 80 and also that fact that it was in a tournament. It is only because of your videos that I have learned how to simplify the golf swing with stack and tilt without all of the shifting, lifting, and hinging. I hope to be scratch by the end of my senior year of high school!
-David
Keep working on the right things young man In golf and in life and you will be successful at both.
That is *OUTSTANDING,* David - congratulations on not just breaking the 80 barrier but absolutely shattering it, and in tournament conditions no less!! *AWESOME* job!!! 💪💪

I got my first Saguto Birdie!! I'm a newish player and you're so good! I'm recommending you to everyone I play with. Two questions 1. Head turns after right shoulder passes chin? 2. Well done, Krina!! 💪💪

With regard to your questions:
1) The head should remain in the "box" preestablished at address at least until after impact. In fact, a steady head was Jack Nicklaus’ most important swing key as explained in this video from my channel's archives: ua-cam.com/video/E5csidjztzg/v-deo.html
2) As for how to get into the proper setup, we should first feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet.
While there are certainly other videos on my channel that address these topics, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

It wasn’t a criticism. I played and forgot about the tilt and I played horrible. Thanks again I really enjoy your video’s
No worries! And yes - retaining our relationship with the ball is a critical key to consistently crispy ball striking, so always keep that in mind as a quick check if if you experience a mid-round hiccup in your ball striking quality.

@@SagutoGolf Just got back from the golf course. New pre-shot routine of shaking off the tension from my neck, shoulders, and arms (this is a chronic issue that quietly sneaks up on me all the time). I have been playing for about 6 months, and im 63 in decent shape, but arthritis is kicking my butt. Your videos have helped me tremendously. On this video are you keeping your arms stiff, or flexible and just straight. Thanks again.
Hi Bill,
The lead arm is the radius of our swing circle, and as such if we desire ball striking consistency we should endeavor to preserve our radius from address to post-impact.

I had two epiphanies at the range this morning.
1. Concentrate on the swing, not the ball. The ball is the result of the swing.
2. Copy / imitate Tom's swing.
Thanks for sharing that! With regard to:

And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews
