I lived down the road from the chimpanzee sanctuary near Thompson Canyon, near Lake Isabella CA. Ollie, was one of the chimps there, he ripped his owners face off and bit off his fingers. I brought my toddler there to visit, and bring them oranges on numerous occasions before this happened. Ollie was never aggressive towards us. The chimpanzees that were there had their own enclosures that were outfitted with an inside room and an outside area in each enclosure. Ollie had a tv in his space and would watch “ I Love Lucy”, it was one of his favorite shows. This sanctuary was on the road to town and in between our home. It was a horrifying feeling to have known this couple, that we saw frequently, and also hearing what happened to them. The chimpanzees had escaped after this happened and we were all on the look out for them. Our community was very remote, “ off the grid “ literally. Ollie ended up being shot and killed and they rescued the female chimpanzee. I have no idea where she went after this incident. These animals are not pets! Imagine having a pet human…Just imagine if aliens came and put humans in zoos,….???

I went to a place in southeast Philippines with a name like “shin mah gyong” (that’s how it sounded) where I got to hold a baby tiger, then we met a massive liger in a cage that you could tell was either drugged out or sick. Just so you understand, look up the marketing of these places. It's not as if they and the tour guides/hotels that solicit for them are forthcoming with their methods. They may actually claim to be conservation efforts sustained by visitors. People will go there for a cool experience for themselves and their kids, thinking at the very least they aren't doing any harm. Some, like Joe, will realise once they are in it what goes into making the experience and nope out.

I’ve been to that tiger park in Thailand Joe, it is common knowledge that the tigers are completely drugged, secured by chains, beaten with sticks so that money can be made from close up photos, my wife and I wouldn’t pay or pose for the “extra” photo, special price…it was fucked. What about those little Hermit Crabs? They seem to do well. They're cheap & easy to keep happy. Food, water, & enough heat. I had a pet Praying Mantis for a while, and had an ant farm when I was a kid. I kept fish that had babies, so ya KNOW THEY were happy -lol!! Dogs are not wild animals, they dont have instinct like wolves or coyotes. They do horrible in the wild.
@444Dragoncheese Almost ALL truly domesticated animals do horrible in the wild!! There ARE places where all dogs are feral (no one keeps them as pets), and they all look very similar, reverting back to being more like a wolf over time, & although they are considered pests (or other things) they live in packs & live off of humans quite well!! But that is a very different situation in another country. But yes, domesticated animals usually get picked off right away if put into the wild.
