- In this video I try crushing and smelting down a rock sample that I found in the waste rock dump of an abandoned mine. This mine historically produced ore grading around 10g/t Au. So lets see if we can find some of that gold in here! (I filmed this several years ago) #goldpanning #goldmining #prospecting #metallurgy #gold
I grabbed a few other samples from this mine dump and will be processing those rocks in future videos so SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss them!

Thanks for watching :)
I think you can cook the borax to dry it out. I have done that with copper sulphate that was in a hydrated state.
That's actually how I make soda ash (sodium carbonate). Just take baking soda (sodium Bi-carbonate) and still it in the oven at 200F for about an hour. I'll look into that for borax, though I seem to recall seeing a video where they said you had to actually get it to melting temperature to reduce it, then pour it out, let it solidify and break it up again. Quite a bit of work!
I spray my cone mold with wd 40 after I heat it so it drops out easy.
They make wingnut sockets and drivers...
Thanks, that's a good call! That would be a lot faster. But I have since added a feed/extraction port at the top so I just drop the rocks in and then tip it upside down to dump out the crushed material.
