You were one of my wife's favorite artists. She died almost exactly six months ago today. Her brother lost his life from suicide. One of our favorite concert moments was seeing you at Bonnaroo in 2013. This song would have meant so much to her. Thank you.
I lost my brother exactly two years ago. When I first heard this song they lyrics hit me like a bolt of lightening. The articulate and eloquent lyrics so accurately describe what the loved ones of someone who died by suicide feel. You balance the knowing they are at peace and not struggling with their demons anymore, but you still miss them like hell but need to hold onto the positive light they brought into the world. Thank you Frank!
When I first heard this song, I heard the name Scott mentioned in the beginning and wondered if it was about Scott Hutchinson. I don't think I've ever openly cried so hard over a song about someone I didn't know. Scott touched us all, and this song is the most lovely, delicate tribute to him.
I've never heard a song about suicide that has been written with so deep and delicate lyrics at the same time. My best friend committed suicide in 2016. She hanged herself. This is the first song that really calms me and gives me a little sense out of it all.
My friend Rachel ended her life this past February, and this is easily my favorite song about losing a friend to suicide. Every other song I hear really focuses on the feelings of anger and confusion that most people feel, but I honestly don’t feel that way at all. I love how, in addition to focusing on the feelings of sadness and missing Scott, Frank emphasizes that he’s NOT angry at him and instead focuses on the love that he has for his friend and the positive memories and feelings that he associates with him. People always ask me if I’m mad at her, and in all honesty the answer is no. Not one bit. I miss her and I would give anything to have her back, but I understand why she did it and I don’t feel view it as selfish in the way that others might. I just can’t relate to those feelings of anger or resentment, because all I can do is miss her and love her.
I’ve never forgotten the crushing feeling on day when Scott died. His music, the way he decided to go. It was all just so crushing. This brings it right back, it hurts but it’s good to feel and remember his incredible life
My brother Jumped from a bridge last September to the north of the one Scott jumped from, the images this conjures have given me peace, the lyrics are everything. Heart-breaking, but beautiful, thank-you
@Xavier Behavier and yet many more died with the virus than with suicide, I fail to see your rhetoric, the lack of mental health professionals coming out of uni is the problem
@Xavier Behavier you are grasping at straws here as a reason to not like the song for something irrelevant. He's a musician at the end of the day, also some of his other songs on the album refrence how fucked up covid is so it's not like the pandemic hasn't influenced his songwriting.
@Xavier Behavier don't pretend you care about people's mental health. My partner's dad died from covid in January 2021 and an entire family's mental health has been fractured ever since. It's a complete fallacy to equate covid restrictions with tyranny and to use mental health as some sort of flag to wave when those of us who actually suffer long term mental health issues would tell you that actually it's probably better for ones mental health if their loved ones don't die alone in agony. Just say you don't care about other people and accept that
@Xavier Behavier the point you are missing is its not an artists job to let you sit with your love one whilst they pass, they are human like us with the same restrictions, you need a life with less cynicism and hatred my friend, go in peace
I can't believe how this destroyed me. I had never heard of Scott, but for some specific reason this song hit me in the gut... 'Rolling slowly out to sea and always smiling', idk, it's sort of this gut wrenching reminder about how final death is and how terrible suicide is... Beautiful song
When I first heard Frightened Rabbit's 'Swim Until You Cant See Land' it absolutely destroyed me having just lost a friend to suicide, the signs were subtle but I just didn't see them, this reminds me of the signs I missed. Anyone reading this with depression, please please find some light, reach out. Sorry for spoiling your comment. Great song, thank you Frank.
@@Lora2788 I randomly thought about you today. I had a very vivid dream about Adam last night. I have absolutely no idea what's on the other side, but I LOVE that my non-earthbound friends can at least visit me when I'm asleep. I hope you're doing well.
2011 I lost my friend, that I was in Love with - he drowned in a lake and died. This song is touching and somehow I love the imagination of the wave that never breaks and just rolls peacefully out to the sea. - this is a lovely hommage for your beloved friend.
I'm just hearing this for the first time months later, but the fact that this was posted on the 10 year anniversary of me nearly losing my partner to suicide... I don't really have words, I just want to say thank you for making this. And to anyone reading this - please, please don't leave. Stay. Just for a little while longer. It will get better. I cannot imagine what my life would look like now if my partner hadn't been found when he was but.. just, please stay.
I wanted to end it all today. But I remebered this song. And I thought of my best friend. And I just couldn’t do this to him. Thank you for reminding me of that again, Frank. You saved my life so many times. Thank you.
As a survivor from a failed attempt, I soon found it would have been the worst thing I ever did to the ones closest to me had I succeeded. I don't know you, but I'm glad you're still here.

I had been up singing & dancing but this sat me back in my chair held my husband's hand whilst I caught tears back but they were flooding my face, such an incredibly moving song, another fantastic album from our Frank 💞❤️ xxxx
@Xavier Behavier yeah, in my opinion, if you're not interested in the music then don't waste everyone's time being negative and toxic in the comments. Probably have better things to be doing I assume?
@Xavier Behavier just stop will you? You're just making a fool of yourself. The last few years where hard for everybody, and nobody could say for sure what would be the right decisions. So, have there been screw-ups, definitely. But does that justify desecrating a memorial to a friend (cause that's what this song is) and possibly hassling grieving people? Definitely not.
I was fortunate enough to see Scott at End of the Road -- Frightened Rabbit's Scott Hutchison performs "The Modern Leper" for The Line of Best Fit -- and I was there, without a chance. In the back, looking like a homeless. There was even the time I messaged Scott on Twitter, sometime around 2012, and asked him to dedicate a song to my girlfriend. I surprised her with a gig in Edinburgh, they played Fast Blood with a shout-out, and that was my peak of bf props. Now I'm just waiting to float on the forth. I've nothing left.
I've only just discovered this song, but I'm reminded of a couple of my friends that took their lives during lockdown.
