    Archetypal Sam: a really useful systematic rundown, highly informative for anyone keen to organise their own adventure and greatly enhanced by the superb drone shots … with even a Forest Thoughts snippet shoehorned in. Where you stop, norgeskart obliges (excellent online map & search engine, right down to 'hytte' level). Makes me seriously regret the internet didn't come along a generation earlier. Can see from your face that you've found a spiritual home there, safely sheltered amongst pine, spruce, birch & aspen, though I worry that it's not quite remote enough - I mean, there's a very real possibility you might actually meet someone ... Part 2 will no doubt reveal all. Enjoying your enjoyment!

    Great stuff HW, you could feel the peacefulness and tranquility ouzing out every minute.
    Lovely drone shots and what, only about 30kms from a large capital city .....what a difference a few trees make on well managed land in a well managed independent country.
    Cheers man, looking forward to the next snowy video.

    With skis instead of clumsy snowshoes, you'd get there in half the time!

      Well I have no experience of either but I do know snow shoes are easier to carry when travelling 👍🏻

    That walk looked pretty gruelling up to the cabin! talk about walking in a winter wonderland, at least you found the well although the pump was frozen, I bet there were a few more gorgeous sunsets after that one, looking forward to part 2 😊🎄🎄

    Looks utterly perfect! 🌲 ❄️ Life feels so much more real when you have to manage your resources. We’re so disconnected most of the time. And that sunset ❤

    Wow, I’m only 1:05 in to this upload and I just have to say… the videography of the intro is absolutely breathtaking beautiful!! The music was sooo hauntingly exquisite… it gave me goosebumps! Do you mind sharing the composer or title of this piece of music, please Sam? 🥹🥲🙏

      Thanks so much! Unfortunately I can't remember what the music I used was called. All the music I use is from epidemic sound so you might be able to find it on there.

    Looks like a great trip. Good to see you back. Stupid question, but was Norway Spruce ever native to the UK? Looking forward to part 2.

    • @HighlandWoodsman
      @HighlandWoodsman  5 місяців тому +2

      Thanks Ed! Not since the last ice age. Juniper, Birch and Aspen were the first trees to colonise areas that had been essentially scraped clean by the glaciers. Scots Pine came next and made its way up to the North of Scotland. Unfortunately Norway Spruce ran out of time and the land bridges were cut off as the sea levels started to rise. That's why our pinewoods have a more open structure compared to Scandinavia etc.
