@@errornoname4763 Paracord doesn't break, jerk. Just because you cut the paracord, doesn't mean this guys is terrible. Before you say "well you don't know that" I know just one string (with a knot of paracord of course) can hold up to eight hundred pounds. I know, I tested it.

I made some before using crown knots as the core. It worked really well, I was able to pull them super tight, and they were nice and round. I wanted one to be bigger, so I tied one crown inside another, and that worked out great.

I started with a Celtic button knot and got a really nice, even-looking monkey's fist. The overhand knot is quicker and less fidgety, but if you've got the time and the extra length of paracord I think using a Celtic button gets you a much prettier monkey's fist.

    Two things:
    1) Tim, I've perused just about every channel offering paracord bracelet tutorials, and yours are the best, by FAR. Thank you for putting the time, energy, and effort into making these videos. I think I may speak for everyone when I say that.
    2) If you don't have a steel ball bearing available, don't want to fork out the dough for 'em, or what-not, but DO feel like running to Walmart and/or the Dollar Store, you can use polymer clay, and a marble if you like, to make the center bead. I took a small marble from a bag I had lying around (bought at the dollar store), and some scrap Sculpey Bake Shop clay ($1/2oz. @ Walmart in the crafting section ;) ), and made my own 'ball bearing'. It might not be as heavy as a steel ball, but it's got a really good weight to it, and works perfectly for the center of a monkey's fist.
... Just my two cents (OBviously, LOL ).

The monkey’s fist knot was use by early sailors to help get the heaving line( a small cordage line) to the dock hand so they could pull the heavy lines used to secure the ship. They used cotton cord for the heaving line and there was an agreement that the knot would not be waited for safety of the dock hands. The sailors would beat the knot until is was real absorb water making it heavier. It is said they could stretch over 100 feet of line with it. I thought you
    would like to know!

    • @kamaeq
      @kamaeq 2 роки тому

They originally used a bit heavier line a few hundred years ago, so it would have more weight, especially when wet. Paracord is a bit more decorative.

I've never tried this and probably won't because I no longer live aboard nor cruise. but the big prob with retrieving dropped keys is that keys are not made of magnetic material so if you drop your key ring, you get to dive for them. I finally made a lanyard with a cork net float seized into the bitter end. You still can't see the keys, but the float extends the lanyard high enough to be seen or snagged. The net float isn't the saltiest looking thing in the world but your tutorial gives me the idea of using a ping pong ball instead of the steel ball bearing for the core. The ball would give enough floatation to stretch out the lanyard and give the droppee a chance to recover his keys without diving into the muck and slime of a marina.

Quick tip peeps: If you ever messed up using the wrong strand to work on all the excess, DONT WORRY. Go backwards using the working end of the rope/paracord and you'll be fine, it requires high patience though. The result is you will be brought back to the wrong strand that you did.

The tying is easy, but how about a better view on tightening each cord?

when you finish the knot, you can use it as your ''marble'' and repeat to make a giant one

I've often thought of tying a monkey's fist in a monkey's fist and so on! Just have never got around to it. Perhaps it'll make a good video one day. 😁

for those without a lighter/ability to burn cut ends I found Crazy Glue works fine- just let it dry and you're good to go

A while back I found another tutorial for a monkey fist around a tied/knotted Paracord instead of a marble or ball bearing. The center knot that tutorial began with was different than the overhand knot. But it turned out great also - it's been a year or two and I don't know the name of the knot we used for the center. But just wanted to let you know there's another slightly different but same concept version on UA-cam that works well also..

I fid it with an overhand knot and it worked quite well. Then, i used the finished monkey fist as a marble to make a bigger one. Awesome result.

I watched another guys video & was cussing him out 1/4 of the way thru it. This is way easier. We used to make these & welcome mats out of tow boat rope.
