I admit it would have been better if Nickelodeon didn’t dick them around. TLOK doesn’t deserve all the hate it gets. Unpopular opinion: I understood when Korra lost contact with her past lives. I may have hated it but now I get why. It was all about narrative direction where Korra had to learn to forge her own path, much like Zuko. Think about it, if that hadn’t happened, we’d all be waiting anxiously for a past life to guide her while battling Zaheer. Korra had an awesome character development, from season one where she was brash and violent to season 4 where she is reserved and tries to keep the peace, while learning from all her mistakes. While the end of ATLA was an epic finale, the end of TLOK marked a new beginning showing her journey is still progressing. His main reason he says LOK is trash is because of the reviews he’s seen on LOK. And, he says that Korra is a mary sue because she doesn’t go through anything emotional, and I’m like, “boi, I have seen so many clips of Korra going through emotional shit, so don’t even try me!” I haven’t seen LOK, but it looks promising, even though there are some parts I’m iffy on.
#8 was even worse because even after Korra restored Raava and the Avatar spirit, her connection to all the past Avatars(Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Wan, etc.) remains lost... most likely forever.
@@vetarlittorf1807 I hope the next Avatar undone this. I have a theory that every other Avatar redeem the previous one, for Roku, his biggest regret was not being able to stop the 100 years war but aang redeemed Roku by stopping fire nation, aang's biggest regret was he wasn't able to prevent air nomads genocide, but korra was able to somehow successfully build the air nation again. And for korra her biggest regret was she lost the connection with past lives. Who knows maybe there's a way to get it back and the next Avatar probably would be able to re-connect with all of the Avatars.
When they told us sokka died, that hit hard. And when katara said “when you get to my age, you’ll be thankful for the time you had with your siblings” that hurt too
I would like to tell the Avatar - the last Airbander Fans just once: Watch the legend of Korra. It might be not as good as Avatar, but it is really great, deep and mature. It hase a lot of good fights and get to much hate out of nothing. Give it a try.
Finally someone that speaks reason, korra may not be as top notch as avatar was but is still being a really great show, except for season 2 that season was a mess
If I'll ever introduce TLOK to someone, I'll have to recommend skipping Book 2, and watch a summary video instead. That season was horrible so I understand why a lot viewers quit because of it.
Chili Cholo Tell them to watch „beginnings“ though. I think those two episodes are freaking gorgeous and amazing. By far the best thing to come from season 2.
I feel like The Beach episode in ATLA is really underrated. All the memories of his childhood that come rushing back to zuko is so emotional. Even Azula was sympathetic when she said "come on, this place is depressing", implying it's memories she's missed too. It humanizes them and Mai and Ty Lee so much
In the Beach, I believe it was the first time we saw Azula almost becoming a real sister to Zuko for the first time. She wasn't so cruel or rotten in the episode and at the end, she, Zuko, and the rest had a great time together. In their own way but still.
ULGROTHA I’m not trying to hate on legend of korra but i think azula s breakdown was more sad than anything korra had to go through bc she had no chance of redemption
honestly half of atla should be in the horourable metnions... Lokfor me had probably about 4-5 scenes that could enter this video, but atla had so many more and greater that i would have been completely ok had it pushed out lok completely
Right there with you. Tears are streaming down my face as I'm writing this. My eyes are puffy and my face is red. And my nose is stuffy. Zuko repairing his relationship with Iroh was the hardest moment in my opinion, but as a animal owner, I balled when they mentioned ABBA's abuse. 😭😭

@@s.p.d.magentaranger1822 yea fr But the show was improved when the episodes after were amazing. Both these shows are great, and though Lok ain't a masterpiece like Tla or exceeding it. People should stop call it garbage because it's good.
Canaan Zaghawski I personally think that LOK just wasn’t great. With little to no character development from other than Korra, with unexplained powers, such as korra becoming a big spirit out of no where, korra just doesn’t fit in the shoe of atla
Ngl, that scene made me more confused than sad. Like the backstory was heartbreaking, but I feel like the emotion from the nostalgia that Tarrlok and Noatak were feeling didn’t fully translate
Seeing the past avatars erased from her connection really stung. She'd never see or hear from them anymore. Seeing Aang be the first getting erased really hurt. Zuko apologizing to his uncle... there's no one else who could've done it better. I still cry watching that scene and I love it most of all.
@@mahdidatoo5727 True but Lok ain't garbage, it's inferior to it's parent show because of Nick. Coming from someone who grew up watching TLA, Lok ain't bad. It's just that it ain't a masterpiece. But don't blame the writters for their little or no character development for other characters apart from Korra or their shitty robotic animations and infrastructure. Blame Nick for cancelling the show and calling it back, blame them for not giving the team time.
Just so ya know, you have the quote backwards. "Pants are an illusion, and so is death" Normally don't correct people...but I had to, lol, becuase it's a direct quote from the show
Another scene that breaks my heart and makes me tear up is in lok when there were new airbenders and tenzin was sitting on top of the cliff looking at aangs statue and says, 'it's like a dream dad. After 170 years, new airbenders.' and he starts tearing up whilst hugging his kids saying, 'we'll have to get used to not being the own airbenders. If only your grandfather was alive to see this.' Poor aang went through so much. Imagine all your people being slaughtered and being the last one of your whole culture and identity. He would've been so happy to see his culture expanding once again and he would've cried from sadness but happiness at the same time. I can understand why he gave tenzin most of his attention bcz their entire air nomad population starts from aang to tenzin to his kids and so on. The whole air nomad story never fails to make me cry buckets. This cartoon is honestly the best in the whole world. I always watch it every year and then wait a year to forget everything so i can re watch it. A huge thanks to the creators and everyone included :)
It's on CBS All Access, for some reason. Well worth a month's subscription if you can't binge Legend of Korra within the free trial period! Edit: Though, honestly, Netflix's video player is 10x CBS'
At least Katara's devastating moment from "The Puppetmaster" got some recognition (even though it was in the Honorable Mentions). Whenever I watch that episode, I just can't help feeling sorry for her when she breaks into tears during the closing scene.
#2 was really hard to watch as a kid, like just a season ago korra was overwhelmingly cocky and then they just torn down her character and after she barley survived being tortured she has ptsd throughout the following season.
@@vetarlittorf1807 not exactly, because raava was destroyed, none of the new avatars will have any past lives. so if you think korra will be a past life for the next avatar, you're dead wrong. the next avatars will never be able to contact any past lives or use their strength ever again
What made me sad and misty-eyed are these moments: Zuko reconciling with Iroh Bloodbending Appa’s abuse Princess Yue’s sacrifice Leaves From The Vine Those moments broke my heart dearly. 💔💔💔
Something I think is quite heartbreaking on reflection is Azula's breakdown after being defeated by Zuko and Katara. She had been sadistic and ruthless her entire life and then pushed away everyone who cared about her due to paranoia and in the end it all got to much for her after seeing Zuko with everything she never had.
how was azula's breakdown not on here. it was so depressing to me when she was crying and screaming at the end cause that is when everyone realizes she was a victim too. only 14 years old too
It's so hard to hear friends say sth like: "Urgh, stop telling me I should watch this stupid child anime from Nickelodeon." There is so much behind it, the avatar universe is sooo amazing
TLoK in season 3 and 4 just made me cry the whole time. Especially the scene where Korra is crying during Jinora’s ceremony... Breaks my heart every time.
Everytime I hear Leaves From The Vine, I sob so much, and what makes this sadder is that this was the last episode the Voice Actor Mako did before he passed away
I've got a couple more: 1. Azula's breaking point- Series Finale 2. Asami finding out about her father's ties with the equalists 3. Toph leaving her parents 4. Ty Lee and Mai Betraying Azula (though more of a gunch-wrenching than heartbreaking) 5. Katara confronting the fire bender who killed her mother.
Iroh's song is not only sad because of the lyrics, tone etc. But because Mako wasn't able to finish and see how both Avatar and Samurai Jack ended up becoming great masterpieces. They are 2 of my most favorite cartoons. Even after watching ither great shows like Sopranos, BB, GOT and experiencing a lot of great Games/movies, this show has a special place in my heart
the one thing i hate about the fandom is how much hate that they give to korra when she loses her past lives. remember that she's connected to raava, so every punch that unalaq gave to raava was connected to her as well. she didn't just wake up one morning and said, "yeah nope lol imma lose my past lives." if you actually view the episode in detail, she was *trying to get up, but she and raava are connected.*
The Background Music is the Perfect choice for this topic. The Tribute to Mako and the Reunion between Iroh and Zuko are my all time Favorites. When they talked about the Reunion Entry I teared Up just a little bit
one that should have been mentioned: finding out that Ang apparently was a bad father to Kaya and Boomie and that he favouritised Tenzen. It just didn't make sense to me at all
to me it makes perfect sense. they spent years hoping for a airbender kid and when katara finally had one of course they were aang’s main focus. he could teach them air bending and associated them more with his own culture, although they were all his kids.
@@slaysmr_ I watched a video called "was Ang a bad father?" Or something like that and they made some good points as to why it doesnt make sense. 1) Katara wouldn't let Ang get away w favouritising a child so much and 2) even if his other children arent air benders, it's still a part of their culture. Within the air nomads there were non benders who were still exposed to the culture. It makes more sense for Ang to open Kaya and Boomie up to air nomad culture even tho they weren't air benders themselves. Ang was always passionate about being an air bender and would teach Katara about it too so I expected him to do the same with K and B as well. I can imagine an older him getting excited to go on a trip to the air temples and explore their history with all three of his children, not just Tenzen. I guess he would love Tenzen just that little bit more but neglecting his other children and not taking them on special air nomad trips just seems so unlike him which is just 😔 yk
SiaLater i agree with that. aang was probably a really great father overall but there was probably favoritism between the kids (i’m guessing from katara to kya too). fans do sometimes over exaggerate, but we can’t let that blind anyone from noticing smaller details when watching legend of korra.
I appreciate how much credit this list gives Korra. So many people write it off for not having the same silly air as the original Avatar had. While the OG series could obviously go dark at times, it was much more lighthearted than Korra which definitely touched on even darker subjects much more frequently throughout its time. Both are excellent shows, but to descredit Korra for being literally made for the children who were now much older has always been so disheartening to see. I love them both but Korra will always mean more to me. I appreciated its themes that respected the fact I wasn't a kid anymore, that teenagers could be moody/arrogant and had growing up to do. It was a beautiful ride that may not have been perfect, but was absolutely worth watching/telling.
Most people write Korra off because it was nowhere near Avatar in terms or writing and character development. Nothing to do with Korra not being as light hearted.
@@Eleni1002 Agreed, when people are asked who their favorite character from Korra is, its always either Korra or Tenzin, the reason being, no one else is memorable. It was destined to fail. But with ATLA, every main character is a fan favorite. Thats the reason people dislike Korra, and she managed to fuck up a cycle that has been going on for 10,000 years.
I believe Iroh's loss is what triggered his transformation into the person he is in the series (the one we all know and love). If you remember the Zuko Alone episode in season 2, Iroh writes to the family from Ba Sing Se and he is a totally different person. He conquered Ba Sing Se and was making fun of how he might just burn it to the ground. So although his loss pains me, losing Lu Ten made him question his life and his choices and made his transformation possible. I love the moments you chose! Great list!
This video just made me want to re-watch both of the shows. I just finished The Legend Of Korra and I get so sad, especially when they learn that she’s been gone for 6 months….
And to know that Leaves from the Vine was the last VA recording of the legend Mako Iwamatsu before he passed away makes it more heartbreaking. RIP Mako, the legend.
The biggest reason to love both series is it never shys away from emotional feeling and that's what I love about both series. Aang losing Gyasto was heart-breaking because he didn't just lose a teacher, Aang lost a father figure. Monk Gyasto was so good to Aang; they played, Gyasto made Aang laugh when he was lonely, he even tried to protect him. Who would feel sad about that? Jet dying was sad too. Katara hated him for how he lied to her but in the end, I saw the sadness in Katara's eyes when she last sees him. She forgave him but also, she couldn't do anything for him. You can bet I cried when Zuko reunited with Uncle Iroh. That still hits me because Zuko did betray his Uncle and worried things won't be the same between them again. Watching Iroh hug his nephew really pulls the heart strings ten fold for me and it's a sight I'll never forget. There's one thing Uncle Iroh would never do, and that's stop loving his nephew.
I was waiting for the iroh singing leaves from the vine. I was gonna say that is mad crazy if you didn’t put that as number one. But what about when soka and katara are reunited with their dad. Or when zuko beats Azula and she is screaming and crying, the we al realize she is only 14. Or when katara confronts the man who killed her mom. And damn when toph gets burned by zuko/ him facing his inner turmoil. 😬
Shrek is the best franchise and it tops anything. I disagree. Her and makos battle with Amon, and the scenes leading up to her loss of bending had me on the edge of my seat. Which definitely added to the shocked and sad feeling I felt when Amon took her bending. And that’s without mentioning the episodes last several minutes which show a broken and defeated Korra. She beat Amon, but she still lost. She is no longer the avatar and there will no longer be another avatar. That scene where she ran off to the Arctic cliffside with Naga had me heartbroken. It mirrors the first scenes of Korra so well. She’s no longer a carefree and eager avatar, she’s a girl who’s powerless and beaten. Her losing her bending was not only something that Korra feared for the entirety of the season, but it was something most viewers feared as well. Nobody thought it was going to happen. But it did. And that’s why it was so heartbreaking. The person we thought was invincible, lost.
Iroh's song one of the most heartbreaking moments ever, RIP Mako

Sadra Hafezi My brother keeps talking shit about how Korra is such a mary sue character and that LOK is trash, but he never watched it. His main reason he says LOK is trash is because of the reviews he’s seen on LOK. And, he says that Korra is a mary sue because she doesn’t go through anything emotional, and I’m like, “boi, I have seen so many clips of Korra going through emotional shit, so don’t even try me!”
I haven’t seen LOK, but it looks promising, even though there are some parts I’m iffy on.
No one should ever have to bury their Child. That thought alone makes that scene so much more heavy

#8 was even worse because even after Korra restored Raava and the Avatar spirit, her connection to all the past Avatars(Aang, Roku, Kyoshi, Wan, etc.) remains lost... most likely forever.
Raava *is* the Avatar Spirit.
@A.r tomboy I hope not. It would render Korra's journey pointless.
They should make the next avatar series have the avatar restore memories or something like that and each episode follows a new avatar.
@@ShubhamSingh-xc9dq No. Because the past lives no longer exist. Aang, Roku, Kyoshi etc faded into nonexistence when Unalaq destroyed the old cycle.

I would like to tell the Avatar - the last Airbander Fans just once:
Watch the legend of Korra.
Nickle ruin what could of been a good follow up.
Chili Cholo Tell them to watch „beginnings“ though. I think those two episodes are freaking gorgeous and amazing. By far the best thing to come from season 2.
its really hard to be the follow up of a show as perfect as avatar
I feel like The Beach episode in ATLA is really underrated. All the memories of his childhood that come rushing back to zuko is so emotional. Even Azula was sympathetic when she said "come on, this place is depressing", implying it's memories she's missed too. It humanizes them and Mai and Ty Lee so much
That episode is in my Top 5 favorites.
In the Beach, I believe it was the first time we saw Azula almost becoming a real sister to Zuko for the first time. She wasn't so cruel or rotten in the episode and at the end, she, Zuko, and the rest had a great time together. In their own way but still.
Azula's mental breakdown should've gotten an honorable mention.
ULGROTHA I’m not trying to hate on legend of korra but i think azula s breakdown was more sad than anything korra had to go through bc she had no chance of redemption
Yea same I agree
honestly half of atla should be in the horourable metnions...

Iroh may have lost his only son, but in Iroh's eyes, he gained another one in Zuko. Iroh was more of a father to Zuko than Ozai ever was.
No question, Avatar The Last Airbender was the best show to ever air on Nickelodeon.
Avatar The Legend Of Korra was also good but it had rough parts.
For me, those two shows are tied neck-a-neck. Best cartoons ever.

Canaan Zaghawski I personally think that LOK just wasn’t great. With little to no character development from other than Korra, with unexplained powers, such as korra becoming a big spirit out of no where, korra just doesn’t fit in the shoe of atla

It's coming on Netflix in August
It's on American Netflix right now
At least Katara's devastating moment from "The Puppetmaster" got some recognition (even though it was in the Honorable Mentions). Whenever I watch that episode, I just can't help feeling sorry for her when she breaks into tears during the closing scene.

Azula may have been favored by her father but that was all she got from him. Zuko was loved by others. That's something Azula never got to experience.

how was azula's breakdown not on here. it was so depressing to me when she was crying and screaming at the end cause that is when everyone realizes she was a victim too. only 14 years old too

TLoK in season 3 and 4 just made me cry the whole time. Especially the scene where Korra is crying during Jinora’s ceremony... Breaks my heart every time.
I'd say that Zuko's reunion with Iroh is more heartwarming that heartbreaking, but it definitely causes the waterworks, every single time.
I agree. It's feeling I don't want to ever forget.
Everytime I hear Leaves From The Vine, I sob so much, and what makes this sadder is that this was the last episode the Voice Actor Mako did before he passed away
The saddest moments
*when the series ended*
I've got a couple more:
1. Azula's breaking point- Series Finale
2. Asami finding out about her father's ties with the equalists
3. Toph leaving her parents
4. Ty Lee and Mai Betraying Azula (though more of a gunch-wrenching than heartbreaking)
5. Katara confronting the fire bender who killed her mother.
I think that Zuko taking a bolt of lightning for Katara should have been an honorable mention.
Oh my god, Zuko reconciling with Iroh was the most emotion for me.
I cried SO much hearing and seeing Zuko so sad like that!
Me too. I can hear and feel that emotional tone in his voice. It really hit home for me, and it's a moment I will never out grow. Ever.
Any time zuko talks is sad but also my favorite moment of the show is zuko apologising to iroh
Fun Fact: Uncle Iroh's Son's picture is actually of a younger Mako
Everyone's strong until they hear "Leaves from the Vine" RIP Mako, you will always be missed 🥺🥺
The music and the moments are making me cry 😭😭😭😭
This actually made me cry😭
@@samirah278 please stop calling him Ang. It gives me flashbacks.
Zuko & Iroh’s reunion is tearfully beautiful how Zuko finally finds himself & ❤️ again.
Goodbye, Sokka! I have important moon duties to take care of! And yes, I did have pickled fish!
Honestly if iroh singing wasn’t number one I would get angry
yes Zuko banishment is the most heartbreaking
They really beat the sh*t out of Korra multiple times
I thought Zuko's scar would be number one, but then I realized that there are more heart aching moments that tugs at my heart strings.
God yes Appa‘s lost days has me bawling every single time. And I’ve watched the series many many times 😶
Great list!
We need more shows with Avatar and Korra's animation style.
This video just made me want to re-watch both of the shows. I just finished The Legend Of Korra and I get so sad, especially when they learn that she’s been gone for 6 months….
Na, the way kora was so broken in book 4 was the hardest thing ever
Morgan Pavelka yes. And then getting happy with Asami 😍
And to know that Leaves from the Vine was the last VA recording of the legend Mako Iwamatsu before he passed away makes it more heartbreaking.
RIP Mako,the legend.
*This whole list has me Tearbending all over again😭🥺*
When Appa was hurt I cried for a while. Appa was a good soul and hurt badly. Even as a adult it never fails to make me cry my eyes out.
I would have added Korra or Lin losing her bending to this list. Both moments had me in tearing up.
Ryan Stannard korra losing her bending was sudden tho so it wasnt as sad
It wasn't she just got it back after few minutes ago
the fact that they made the tale of iroh in the honor of mako just warms my heart and makes me cry so much, i don't think i'll ever get over it
And to think that Avatar: The Last Airbender was originally going to become into a post-apocalyptic adventure
i’m glad people are revisiting their favorite childhood safe place (that is the avatar universe) during quarantine
