    That was clever with the temperature gauge. Like the hinge at the back, so convenient. Thanks, Tony

      Thanks Tony. I is a lot easier than trying to find the hook when you have food in one hand and smoke in your face LOL. Be well and be blessed my brother.

    I tried adding the thermometer in that location, it was always covered in soot. I do not recommend.

    I mounted my temp gauge directly at grate level. Never understood people obsessed with putting them in the lid

    Hadn't seen anyone do a temp gauge like that before, pretty cool.

    HIYA, I just cleaned my smoker what a mess , but since it was so hot here they cleaned up nice , now I need to spray them with oil , plus worked on and fixed a 425 john Deere it had a plastic cam gear go out, but all new parts its running good now, I bought a 2005 mini cooper s , makes 2 now I have well the wife has one I gave her for her birthday lol we like them the gas mileage they get is unreal , you take care

      The Mini's are a fun car to drive but the maintenance on them is unreal, ask me I know LOL. It is getting hotter and muggier here with each passing day but we persevere with AC. Sounds like you have been keeping busy, you should be making videos so that we can see what you are doing. Be well and be blessed my brother.

    I would use brake cleaner on cleaning the vent area.

  • @mikesr3011
    @mikesr3011 5 років тому +1

    Nice video. Just not too keen with the temp gauge turning with the vent. I would try opening up the hole on the vent, securing the temp gauge to the lid with the vent rotating around the base of the temp gauge. Win-Win! like your idea.

    Nice mods Joel! I’ll have to keep this stuff in mind. Who knows? Maybe someday in the far off distant future when I have enough gray in my beard, I will have the time and patience for charcoal cooking... However, I am only 52, so that will likely be a long time from now!
    Blessings on Ya!

    That seems like a great mod, I mainly reverse sear things and would like to know the temp by the meat without drilling a hole in the lid.

    Great idea! I wanted to ask how accurate the thermometer will show in this position? Will there be a temperature difference near the grate with the food and near the holes?

    • @guitstikkustoms4448
      @guitstikkustoms4448  2 роки тому +1

      The thermometer is much more accurate than the Weber but since it isn't over direct heat from the charcoal you also get a better indication of the temperature the food is cooking at. There will always be variations in temp but not massive differences. Thank you for watching and commenting, be well and be blessed.

    the air that comes out of the vent is all ways hotter then the other side of the grill. why the put it opposite sides

    • @guitstikkustoms4448
      @guitstikkustoms4448  5 років тому +1

      The vent is directly over the food being cooked were as the stock temp gauge is directly over the coals when I use the Slow N Sear giving an incorrect temp. The stock gauge doesn't even give the correct temp, usually lower than the digital probe I use. Comparing the stock and the new gauges with a digital temp probe, the new one is spot on even in the location that I chose. Thanks for watching.

      Thank you. The video is incomplete. I had originally shot both the temp gauge and the hinge but the hinge didn't get included. I uploaded the hinge part separate, you may like that as well LOL.

    Does this really work? Right on top of the flute? Seems a temp swing when you open it up or crack it.

    • @guitstikkustoms4448
      @guitstikkustoms4448  2 роки тому

      It does work. The probe is down close to the meat and is more accurate than the facory one that is over the coals.
