- The clasp is a very important part of your chain/bracelet. I wanted to do a review comparing the box lock to the lobster clasp. The lobster clasp is far more popular and used for mass production. Sometimes you won't have the option but is it really worth upgrade your lock? Let me know what you think down below! Thanks for watching!

Years ago way back when they only had the box clasp. You are right the box clast did irritate and bother your skin at times. Another great bit of honest up-front information. Something most other jewelers will not tell you. They push whatever they have in stock at that time. That is why I like Jacoje and the owners so much. I prefer the Lobster clasp on a chain as long as it's streamlined and no thicker than the chain would be. I prefer the box lock on a bracelet because it's much easier to put back on the wrist and lock it in place with the "cricket leg."
Those highly polished Jacoje chains look pretty sweet.

I have both and in my opinion the lobster clasp is better for everyday wear. It’s just more comfortable to me personally. I love my chains with box locks as well and they are no doubt stronger than the lobster clasp

I’ve got a machine made cuban with a lobster clasp, I’m from the UK and you never see box locks in Jewellers unless it’s been handmade bespoke here.

If I spring for a nice Cuban, I'll probably go with a box lock. If I want a pendant, I'll use the lobster clasp on a Franco or rope.

i bought a 3.5 byzantine from you but the tear drop clasp is so weak that i can blow it open i can not send it back because i stay in europe i can not pay import tax twice you should check your stuff before you send it out with that said i have many of yours and they are beutiful but its gonna cost me to change the lock
Something weird about this comment. I haven't had any issues with any clasps from Jacoje. If you're in Europe you could definitely get gold jewelry cheaper than from Jacoje.
@@dale3123 no i cant and yes the clasp is weak very week on this byzantine and yes i have 4 other chains from jacoje no problem with those clasp an the chains are beutiful .

I dont do videos and the clasp is not broken its the spring that is very weak and i am not a hater i love his chains they are very nice i will continue to buy more but im very irritated that he sold me a chain with a week spring like that @@dale3123

Honestly I don't trust a box clasp. Maybe for a special chain but I don't take off my normal ones and I've been hurt to many times :)

Neither they both suck ass! I break off the lobster and put on 8mm key rings. (Split rings). You have to spiral loopyity loop in order to disconnect it. It can squish and bend if push comes to shove situations. You might think its a hazard, but i doubt a 4mm 925 Figaro would decapate...

I think it depends on the size/width of the chain overall. Might be bad news having a 12mm with a lobster clasp

can you do a video on wear and tear of chains worn with pendants? maybe compare a new chain and pendant to an aged one that's had a lot of use and been slept in and compare them to see if theres any rounding of the edges or metal loss

I feel like lobster would be better for daily. The box for occasional. I always like a length of 24in or longer. Then you don’t have to undo it.

I have 2 Franco chains with lobster clasps and I do personally prefer it as they are traditional looking and it is on 3mm width chains.
Box ones are not bad, just prefer them on the very wide chains, 6mm and above maybe ?

I would think the lobster clasp is much more comfortable. I hate the box lock. If I order a cuban, I'm going to ask Braden to slap a lobster clasps on my cuban before shipping it out.
I rock both lobster for my ropes obviously and my cuban got a lock looks nice all together

The spring in the lobster clasp eventually goes and the whole clasp has to be changed then! They are expensive! I know because I had to replace one!
How long did it last? I used to wear 26 inch for that specific reason. Just slip it on and off without using the clasp constantly. 24 inch works too. But now I got 22 inch because it’s a much cleaner look, but it honestly worries me taking them on and off. Plus I think it may be difficult to find 22k lobster clasps to match my chains and bracelet. 🤦♂️
@@ryanblanchard2508 My clasp lasted about 8 years but that is because I change up my chains all the time and don't always wear the same one. I had to open and close it all the time as it didn't slip over my head. I have five 22k chains. The clasp I had to change was a 10k, which is supposed to be stronger. So far 22k is ok. Any ethnic jewellery store such as Chinese or Indian should be able to change the clasp if it breaks and these stores are in every city!

A clean smooth barrel lock would be perfect.
You don't put barrel locks if not a rounded chain ie: franco, rope, etc
