So many thanks for posting this match in it's entirety! Manuela thoroughly deserved this win. That tie break was so nervy by both parties and it was Manuela's to win and Chris's to lose and Manuela held her nerve after being in front for most of the match. I miss these fab 80's matches
Si je me souviens bien Evert est tombée au 4 ème place dans le classement après cette défaite...la première fois qu'elle n'était pas parmi les top 3 depuis du classement par l'ordi en Novembre 1975 !
Chris was just not enthused when she hit a great shot or too disappointed when she flubbed one die to impatience and slightly irritataed playing the slow game she had trained all of 84 and 85 to speed up in order for her to compete better with Martina. Maleeva has a calm patient mindset to trade ground strokes all day long. She didn’t outhit her she lulled her to disinterest.
" lulled her to disinterest." Right man, Chis forced her opponent to be disinterested in winning a lot of money. Your analysis is specious. Standard fallacious liberal "articulated rationality"

Was there. Brutally hot and humid. Maleeva played smart, slowed the pace and hit a thousand moonballs.
