- A new retro emulation handheld - Makerfabs ESPlay Micro V2
I am always partial to handheld gaming, especially anything that offers a SEGA master system experience on the go! Makerfabs have revised their take of this popular homebrew system adding a laser cut case and new buttons. Overall quite the improvement in experience, but we can make it a little better!
These can be obtained direct from the manufacturer: www.makerfabs.com/esplay-micr...

Thanks you lovely people, and keep on tinkering!
A fascinating system. Thanks for taking it apart (and improving it!) Cheers!
You are most welcome!
I like the potential hackability of this, the misaligned screen would play with my OCD though 😁
Don't want to be too negative about projects like these, but I think a V3 would be warranted. As you rightly noted, a handheld system needs a speaker even if it's a weedy one. I do think the controls can use some work too. Firstly, all the buttons are unlabeled. If it's too costly to engrave it in the shell, why not simply use transparent plastic for the shell, so the labels on the PCB are visible? Next, those button caps are going to fall off, if they are retained by just friction. The need a dab of glue. As for the the screen protector... During assembly, they could lift the tabbed corner and poke it through the hole for the screen, so it can be removed without taking the thing apart.
I agree with these, but we need to remember the intended audience. I suspect for a more finished product an Odroid-go would be more sensible. But for someone really looking for a platform to hack and develop on (rather than play on) this would be better.
@@backofficeshow Ironically, the O-Droid seems to be only available in kit form, but I do agree, this is much more hackable
Yes, but it's super polished more like a SDK (semi knocked down) product. And even more ironically, this device fixed a bunch of hardware boo boo in the odroid 😂
It's all compromise! I want it ALL!
Just got to know your videos and really like the content although I have to say I am not sure I will be able to put up with the names flashing in every intro. Hope you eventually change that to a less distracting option. Thank you for the great content!
i love your videos
Good one doc a
It's a funky little dinky toy.
Got sub😉
Always wonderful to get one!
Interesting but there's $20 shipping before we even get to the faff of customs in the current UK climate.
Ouch, most of those companies have local drop shipping, I'd day if you were interested in one to contact them first
Screen tearing 😐
