The Inner Worlds film series visits creatives in the places that inspire them
Few choreographers have pushed contemporary dance more than Wayne McGregor. For the last 30 years, the Londoner has drawn on art, philosophy, technology, and science to expand the possibilities of the dancing body. In doing so, he’s transformed movement into a medium to investigate the world.
In the latest episode of ‘Inner Worlds’, we visit McGregor at Here East, his studio in London. There, the rooms are like empty canvases that leave space for imagination to take hold. ‘Beginning is so often the hardest thing to do,’ he says. ‘You really start with nothing, only the bodies in the room.’
Art Basel followed Wayne McGregor in his studio with Company Wayne McGregor rehearsing UniVerse: A Dark Crystal Odyssey. It premiered at The Linbury Theatre at The Royal Opera House on 13 May 2023 and ran until 4 June 2023.
