@@saliksayyar9793 Ofcourse, the most ancient ancestors of mankind came from Africa, and the same is true for Kurds. But the Medes are the ancestors of Kurds, not the MOST DISTANT ancestors. In a sacred text written in 7 languages in the century, the Med language is also included. H.W. King Diakku (Deioces) the first king of the Medes was from the tribe of Mannea which was a tribe/region linked with the Urartians and Mittani. Mannea is now known as Mokrian in Kurdish. We also use the name Diakku in naming our boys. In classical Aramaic and Armenian sources the Kurds are referred to as Mah. The Assyrian oppression literally helped shape the modern Kurdish identity as the Medes unified all the smaller tribes and kingdoms under one banner to defeat the Assyrians. To simply even suggest we are not descended from the Medes is ridiculous, based on geography alone you can tell. However modern day Kurdish borders have definitely been pushed back nowadays, especially by Turkic invasion.
Tbf even as a kurd who has done a lot of research, any western iranic people can lay the same claim to the medes being one of their ancestors. A persian person can lay the same claim too the medes, and a kurdish person can also lay the same claim too ancient persians. The kurds are a heterogeneous people, which means their origins are not just median/iranic, but other ancient people make up their genetic mixture too. Of course genetics can vary from person too person, but a kurd is usually a mix of ancient mesopotamian people (especially if your kurd from iraq), ancient anatolian people, ancient iranic people (persians, medes etc) etc.

I'm certain that we Kurds are actually the descendents of the Medes. We even say it in our national anthem. "We are the descendents of Medea and Kay Khusraw(Cyaxares)." Kurdish people know what I mean.

However, theres no modern evidence which states that the Medes were Kurds; if anythings, theres plenty of modern evidence which refutes it. They did everything they could to erase the language and history after Islam became dominant. People went to war misled by imams and did not know that they were at war against themselves.
At one point all Kurds spoke in the Med dialect. 1/3rd of the Parthian empire consisted of the Kurdish Pehlewani tribe, and today the Pehlewani language is directly connected to the ancient Mede dialect of the Zaza-Gorani branch of the Kurdish language. Kurds have shown that they deserve their own nation.

The first historical document showing the bond between the Medes and the Kurds is in the Kar-nâme, mentioning Erdeşîr I Papakan (242 BC) as the Kurdish king of Med.

@kristina zboodram Actually the people mentioned in this comment have similar looks to the Ancient Medes (The Mada) as well. Their language sounds a lot similar, While the Luri language sounds a bit like the Ancient Persian as well.
Something to mention here, is that the Kurdi language sounds a lot like the Ancient Mesopotamian languages as well. And from what I know, some scholars actually say that the Kurdish people might have Mesopotamian roots as well as Iranian.
Medes language is closer to hurri and sumerians than persian language which is indo European, we are nor descendants of indo European, our language, costume, religion was different from them

The story of Cyrus the Great being raised by a shepherd is such a worldwide trope! It occurs in the Bible & 1001 Nights and shows up Ancient Greek legends especially Oedipus. It even pops up in CS Lewis’ story The Horse and his boy, except the father is a fisherman rather than a shepherd!
Actually according to many prominent schalors of religion, the Persian religion of Zoroastrianism also had a strong impact on the development of Judaism and through it on Christianity and Islam as wel, which is also interesting.

But still, most scholars well trained in both traditions, conclude that Zoroastrianism most likely was the source, since the level of antiquity and originality of these ideas In Zoroastrianism seem to be much more clear and they also predate the earliest Jewish sources by the centuries. But it's not really even that important which one was the most likely source. As an Iranian, even if it was Zoroastrianism, it doesn't make me proud at all that it ever had anything to do with the development of the ludicrous Abrahamic religions, all of which are very misogynistic, justify or even promote slavery and they have an insane, enraged God that tortures people constantly. I agree that Christianity is more peaceful, but still they consider the old Testament, which is full of racist, hateful, genocidal commands by an insane God, as part of one of their holy book and it has been used by Christians to justify various crimes including genocide and slavery. Islam is also an Arabized and universalized version of Judaism. Mohammad obviously believed the stories of the old Testament to be true and was very much inspired by them and considered himself a Moses of sorts, with all his destructions, plunders and attacks on the non-believers. The main difference is that at least, in the old Testament, those commands to murder, plunder and the enslave non-Jews is limited to the so-called promised land, but Mohammad copied and expanded this theory to the whole world and that's basically how Islam began.

It may not be that he was insane but rather playing a necessary evil to guide a still nascent human collective consciousness through a master plan which we can not comprehend. Killing a certain tribe may have been necessary to facilitate humanity but that does not mean god did not have ,erect on those victims of genocide. They may have been taken to some other special place of gods choosing befitting and recompensing their fate which is apart from paradise or hell.
This is Zazaki vs Kurmanci: (I don’t see) “ez nevênenu” vs “ez nabinim” Zazaki is one of the closest languages to Kurdish among the North-western Iranic languages. (Zaza language - Wikipedia) In conclusion: I really don’t care that much if the Kurds were the Kings and Queens of the Median Empire that is why I very seldomly write anything about it but when I see others try to so hard to claim that the Kurds weren’t even related to Medes without even looking at the their own maps or the linguistic and cultural evidence I can’t help but wonder what motives could they actually have. Kurds are descendant of meds but today we have been divided over different countries. Those countries even destroy any historical evidence if it serve history of kurdish in this area. For example in 20th century in iran they changed one of the graves of meds for their advantage. In our national kurdish anthem we say “ We are the descendants of the Medes and Cyaxares Kurdistan is our religion, our credo, Let no one say Kurds are dead, they are living They live and never shall we lower our flag”.
Important thing to note is that an Assyrian king is the representative of Ashur and is considered the 'high priest' of Ashur in the nation. Interesting tale about King Sargon II, in 705 BC, Sargon II returned to the rebellious province of Tabal and did not know about the alliance it created with the Cimmerians, so Sargon II charged at the Tabal/Cimmerians and was killed during battle, the thing is though, his body was taken by the Cimmerian alliance, and Sargon II never had a proper burial, and in Ashurism (Assyrian religion), if the Assyrian king did not have a proper burial, his spirit would be cursed to haunt the lands forever.
Yup, that's correct. I think that's also why Sennacherib seems to have gone out of his way to distance himself from his father. He probably thought that Sargon II's excessive worship of Marduk meant that he was abandoning Ashur, which was perhaps why Sennacherib felt that when Babylon revolted, he was justified and would even be protected by Ashur should he need to resort to subduing the city with great violence. Deioces we say in Kurdish Diyako was the first King of the Medes. He is the grandfather of the Kurdish Mukri tribe in today's Erea where Diyako create the Median Empire. Kurdish dna and Kurdish language are Medes origin. The Medes have nothing to do with Persian.

at 20:00 It was said that the Assyrian king who was fighting against the Babylonians and Medes was killed during the Battle of Nineveh and the new king, Ashur-Uballit II, was offered vassalage if he surrendered. So Assyria could've actually lived on but Ashur-Uballit II chose to fight to last man at Harran and Carchemish. I actually wrote an alt-history on if Ashur-Uballit II chose vassalage instead of fighting to the end. I wrote how Assyria would eventually reassert independence just like how they did with the Mitanni.
That's actually really cool... I never thought what would have happened if Ashur-uballit II had become a vassal of Babylonia or Media. Would he have stayed in Harran or made one of his conditions being that he needed to go back to Ashur? I'm curious as to what happened in your story (you don't have to give away the ending if you don't want, but sounds really interesting). I often thought about doing some sort of alternate history vid, something like "What if the Persians hadn't lost at Salamis" or "What if the Sasanians had one the battle of Qadisiyah" or scenarios like that. At 24:00 there is a story about killing baby Cyrus, whose name is still unknown, Compare this to the prophecy of Isaiah, calling Cyrus by name 200 years before his birth, saying that he is the one chosen by God to rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple. Now compare it to Herod the great hearing about a prophesied king, then going on a killing spree to prevent it from happening.
There are opinions among historians and travelers in many periods, especially in the early period, that the Medes are among the ancestors of the Kurds. The mythical story that Herodotus mentioned in his book is a Median story that was made for Cyrus II. The purpose of the creator of the story was to explain the reason for Cyrus's kindness and his soft nature. However, Herodotus got some part of the story wrong and thought that " Spaco" which in Median language, means "Dog" was the name of shepherd's wife but was the name of shepherd's dog. The story wants to tell that Cyrus suckled a dog nipple and drank milk out of it, when he was an infant. Dog was a cherished and well treated animal in Medes society as human's best friend. Median were Horse breeder and the dog was a useful animal for herding horses. Dogs were also useful to give a warning to them of Assyrians and Scythians attacks before they reach to their cities and villages. There is one account that says: When Hephaestion died in Ecbatana, Alexander destroyed the temple of Anahita in Ecbatana out of rage. There was a statute of a dog beside the statute of Anahita. m

Yes Kurds are a directly descent of the Medes. Cyaxares organized and led the the Medes (one of the earliest records of organized Kurds) and led them with an iron fist throughout Iran. However, Cyaxares's son that would be later known as King Astyages gave his daughter to the Persian empire, hence the era of Medo-Persian empire. Sadly that was the end of the Kurds "say" in the game of politics, as the Persian empire would try to erase the name of the Medes. Thank goodness gracious for the Hellas for documenting the truth.

Since you asked what video I’d like to see. I would like you to do a video on The origins of the Danoi, Denyen, Danuna, Dani, the tribe of Dan. Although the Greek story says they came from Danaus’s daughters from Egypt. I believe they came from the Acheans via the Achaemenid Empire into Illyrian. Then into Greece among the Achaeans and then out across the world. I’m particularly interested in the evidence of them spreading copper and bronze culture deep in to Asia, ar least as far as the Red River valley in Vietnam, where they leave their name like elsewhere as Dang. You can see Dang throughout Asia particularly around rivers and other bodies of water. Like you see Dan, Don, Den, Don, Din, Dan in in many place names in Central Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The mountains of Badakhshan a province in Northeast Afghanistan bordering Tajikistan are known to contain a vast amount of Lapiz lazuli, but that would be a bit too far for the Assyrians to reach.

Some things that come to mind: on deioces: i think the inscription of sargon 2 mentions a daiukku....this individual is described as a mannean provincial governor ruling a district bordering Assyria. His son was held hostage by urartians. The name sounds a lot like deioces. And the dates of his office also match (around 710-705 bc?) What do you think? Second point: i am surprised the last assyrian kings are not mentioned in your disscussion on cyaxares. 2 brothers, sons of ahur banipal, where kings, plus their was an assyrian general who sided with nabopollassar. One of the brothers, sinsharishkun (627-612) was very likely the same notorious gay king sardanapallus mention by many classical authors later on. On Daiukku, yes, he was possibly a Mannaean vassal king or governor as you pointed out, but just based on the name alone it's difficult to confirm whether he is the same person that the story of Deioces is based on. It is possible since Herodotus claims that he ruled for 53 years and so maybe there was some overlap but again, it could have simply been coincidence that the names sound familiar. With regard to the last Assyrian kings, I guess I had already talked briefly about them in the program on Assyria (Ashur etil-ilani, the eunuch Sin-shum-lishir, Sin-sharra-ishkun who was presumably killed in the sack of Nineveh and the last, Ashur-uballit II, who fought on until shortly after the fall of Harran), so I suppose I left them out here. I generally don't focus too much on the classical authors when it comes to Assyrian history because generally what they've written was hearsay compiled long after the events they describe took place and also now, we have a lot of Assyrian and Babylonian records and texts that are much more reliable. However, with regard to the Medes, since we don't have too many texts that talk about specifics or the lives of their early kings, we kind of have to use Herodotus because he's really all we've got. @@maxnetirtimon4121 Hmm that's an interesting question. I'm not sure exactly but I think I that there are a few books that might have this information. One of them is called Shadows in the Desert: Ancient Persia at War by Kaveh Farrokh and the other is called The Achaemenid Persian Army by Duncan Head. I haven't read them in a while and what I remember mainly has to do with battle tactics but I think they did talk about shields and maybe even armor. They are also very well illustrated and so if there are pictures of these 9 types of armor, one of them would likely have it. See if you can get a copy of those... Excellent video! The succeeding empires theme was prevalent in the Hellenistic world and finds its way also in the book of Daniel. There, the author mistakenly places a "Darius the Mede" as ruling Babylon between Nabonaid and Cyrus, showing that Medians as rulers of an empire was really a memory and not grounded in history.
They didn’t merge with Kurds because Kurds didn’t exist back then. They were called Guti by Sumerians and Akkadians and raided neolithic people In Northwstern Iran. Their descendants called themselves Kurti which became kurdi and later kurdish.
Deioces appear to be a match for one of the Odin as lawgiver/king myths. Think: archetypes and motifs. ;) tbf to Herodotus, he often made the distinction between what he knew for certain, what others said, and what he actually believed to be true. Most history UA-camrs don't do as well. ;)

The fall of Assyria was not just brought down by the Medes and Babylonians, but by many elements. Shamash-ShumuKin, AshurBanipal’s older brother, whom was so jealous, conspired against him, because he felt he should have inherited the empire and not his younger brother, whom realistically was more apt from all aspects. This weakened the empire, treachery within. The fact is that it took a coalition of Babylonians, Medes, Elamites, Scythians and Persians to bring down Assyria, and yet even that alone was not the whole story of the fall. A scientific article published a few years ago says the fall of the Assyrian Empire began 200 years prior with devastating climate change in the region, and this emboldened all of Assyria’s enemies to muster up against her. All these elements led to the ultimate fall of Assyria , but it is false to conclude “ Assyria would never be heard of again” because under the new Median, later Persian and Parthian empires, Assyrians served in their Armies and Royal services, and Assyria continued being called Asoristan and Athura. You should read the books, Ancient and modern Assyrians, and Nineveh beyond the fall of Assyria. There are sources in there that confirm all of this.

Hi! Yeah I've been to that area once, just for half a day to see the Ganjnameh inscriptions. Beautiful area though, remember going to a restaurant and being invited by a Kurdish family to join them. Another interesting place not to far from Hamadan that I'd like to visit in the future is the fortress of Tepe Nush-i Jan. It's probably the most complete Median site ever to have been uncovered. Thx for the information, im Iranian i didn't know much about ancient medes. I also wished some of ancient assyrian capital remained. Do you know anything about the heavenly horse? Or the nesean horse? Its from medes ,later persians, bakhtrians and parthians and sasanian persians used them. It was the most legendary horse of all times. The medes were masters of horse breeding, the chinese and greek and persian sources describtion of the medes horses later known as persian horses was that they have had unusual colours ,plus their anatomi was so magestic that most of the nations who seen these horses called the heavenly horses, you can see these horses on sasanian persian stone carvings. In chinese book of tang they describe the horses havin the colours: Purple, red, leopard spotted, gold.

Parts of Nineveh city did remain, there was also a re-settlement in and around the city of Nineveh under Cyrus and the Parthian empire, even the Assyrian temples of Nabu and Ishtar were rebuilt, and Sennacherib's palace continued to be in use and renovated, Ashur city & the temple of Ashur was also rebuilt and the city was semi-autonomous for centuries, from that point on, Assyrians lived under the Iranic empires as artists, construction workers (laborers, tax payers), and infantry men.

In a sacred text written in 7 languages in the century, the Med language is also included. H.W. Some scientists such as Bailey, Henning, Shanidze and David Neil MacKenzie examined the text and said that the text is the same as the Kurdish.

The Medes appear to be a native tribe or a confederation of tribes which are based in modern day Western Iran. The Medes are strongly connected to the tribes of Zagros and mountain ranges of West and Northern Iran as a matter of fact.
They are also known as Mada, Madu, Madai, Mah. King Diakku (Deioces) the first king of the Medes was from the tribe of Mannea which was a tribe/region linked with the Urartians and Mittani. Mannea is now known as Mokrian in Kurdish. We also use the name Diakku in naming our boys.
In classical Aramaic and Armenian sources the Kurds are referred to as Mah. The Assyrian oppression literally helped shape the modern Kurdish identity as the Medes unified all the smaller tribes and kingdoms under one banner to defeat the Assyrians. To simply even suggest we are not descended from the Medes is ridiculous, based on geography alone you can tell. However modern day Kurdish borders have definitely been pushed back nowadays, especially by Turkic invasion.

Tbf even as a kurd who has done a lot of research, any western iranic people can lay the same claim to the medes being one of their ancestors. A persian person can lay the same claim too the medes, and a kurdish person can also lay the same claim too ancient persians. The kurds are a heterogeneous people, which means their origins are not just median/iranic, but other ancient people make up their genetic mixture too. Of course genetics can vary from person too person, but a kurd is usually a mix of ancient mesopotamian people (especially if your kurd from iraq), ancient anatolian people, ancient iranic people (persians, medes etc) etc.

I'm certain that we Kurds are actually the descendents of the Medes. We even say it in our national anthem. "We are the descendents of Medea and Kay Khusraw(Cyaxares)." Kurdish people know what I mean.

However, theres no modern evidence which states that the Medes were Kurds; if anythings, theres plenty of modern evidence which refutes it. I'm telling you basically you are all the same but have different cultures and traditions, the problem started with to Arabic that's when Islamization started in the late 8th century when they chose to erase the original language Aramaic and its history through imams who then brainwashed the misguided people and divided the community.
The problem with this whole mix of peoples and different languages etc started with muhammad who was thrown out of the church in damascus because he did not agree with the church, he let his wife's uncle who was a priest (waraka ibn nawfal) to write his book because he could neither read or write, the priest wrote the "Quren" =write in aramaic.. and was efferently murdered, then muhammad was hunted by everyone because he chose to defy the holy bible and put the messages and words from his own perspective, this also happened because he had a big ego and felt bigger than others... had his story not existed, you would supposedly be called Arameans or Assyrians today but from different countries, and wars would be against the Jews and not against each other, think how wonderful it would be if everyone was united in the Middle East like for example Europe....
then after many invasions with muhammad's successors the mother tongue was no longer needed so they chose arabic as the mother tongue after all the dominance in the warpath. as well as translated the Quren into the Quran from the mother tongue into Arabic. They did everything they could to erase the language and history after Islam became dominant.
People went to war misled by imams and did not know that they were at war against themselves.
At one point all Kurds spoke in the Med dialect. 1/3rd of the Parthian empire consisted of the Kurdish Pehlewani tribe, and today the Pehlewani language is directly connected to the ancient Mede dialect of the Zaza-Gorani branch of the Kurdish language. Kurds have shown that they deserve their own nation.

The first historical document showing the bond between the Medes and the Kurds is in the Kar-nâme, mentioning Erdeşîr I Papakan (242 BC) as the Kurdish king of Med.

Something to mention here, is that the Kurdi language sounds a lot like the Ancient Mesopotamian languages as well.
And from what I know, some scholars actually say that the Kurdish people might have Mesopotamian roots as well as Iranian.

The story of Cyrus the Great being raised by a shepherd is such a worldwide trope! It occurs in the Bible & 1001 Nights and shows up Ancient Greek legends especially Oedipus. It even pops up in CS Lewis’ story The Horse and his boy, except the father is a fisherman rather than a shepherd!

But still, most scholars well trained in both traditions, conclude that Zoroastrianism most likely was the source, since the level of antiquity and originality of these ideas In Zoroastrianism seem to be much more clear and they also predate the earliest Jewish sources by the centuries. But it's not really even that important which one was the most likely source. As an Iranian, even if it was Zoroastrianism, it doesn't make me proud at all that it ever had anything to do with the development of the ludicrous Abrahamic religions, all of which are very misogynistic, justify or even promote slavery and they have an insane, enraged God that tortures people constantly. I agree that Christianity is more peaceful, but still they consider the old Testament, which is full of racist, hateful, genocidal commands by an insane God, as part of one of their holy book and it has been used by Christians to justify various crimes including genocide and slavery. Islam is also an Arabized and universalized version of Judaism. Mohammad obviously believed the stories of the old Testament to be true and was very much inspired by them and considered himself a Moses of sorts, with all his destructions, plunders and attacks on the non-believers. The main difference is that at least, in the old Testament, those commands to murder, plunder and the enslave non-Jews is limited to the so-called promised land, but Mohammad copied and expanded this theory to the whole world and that's basically how Islam began.
@@soniahemmati2372 fair enough. As someone who has no vested interest in any of these religions I want to provide an alternative perspective of the vengeful Old Testament god. It may not be that he was insane but rather playing a necessary evil to guide a still nascent human collective consciousness through a master plan which we can not comprehend. Killing a certain tribe may have been necessary to facilitate humanity but that does not mean god did not have ,erect on those victims of genocide. They may have been taken to some other special place of gods choosing befitting and recompensing their fate which is apart from paradise or hell.

In conclusion:
I really don’t care that much if the Kurds were the Kings and Queens of the Median Empire that is why I very seldomly write anything about it but
when I see others try to so hard to claim that the Kurds weren’t even related to Medes without even looking at the their own maps or the linguistic and cultural evidence I can’t help but wonder what motives could they actually have.
Well, when looking at the specific upvotes that they get, that curiosity is satisfied since it is full of people (Turkish, Arabic, Iranian nationalists) who would love to erase any Kurdish history from that region.
Kurds are descendant of meds but today we have been divided over different countries. Those countries even destroy any historical evidence if it serve history of kurdish in this area. For example in 20th century in iran they changed one of the graves of meds for their advantage.
In our national kurdish anthem we say “ We are the descendants of the Medes and Cyaxares
Kurdistan is our religion, our credo,
Let no one say Kurds are dead, they are living
They live and never shall we lower our flag”.
Important thing to note is that an Assyrian king is the representative of Ashur and is considered the 'high priest' of Ashur in the nation. Interesting tale about King Sargon II, in 705 BC, Sargon II returned to the rebellious province of Tabal and did not know about the alliance it created with the Cimmerians, so Sargon II charged at the Tabal/Cimmerians and was killed during battle, the thing is though, his body was taken by the Cimmerian alliance, and Sargon II never had a proper burial, and in Ashurism (Assyrian religion), if the Assyrian king did not have a proper burial, his spirit would be cursed to haunt the lands forever.
Yup, that's correct. I think that's also why Sennacherib seems to have gone out of his way to distance himself from his father. He probably thought that Sargon II's excessive worship of Marduk meant that he was abandoning Ashur, which was perhaps why Sennacherib felt that when Babylon revolted, he was justified and would even be protected by Ashur should he need to resort to subduing the city with great violence. Assyrian history is so fascinating and really in my opinion is so much better than any work of fiction.

at 20:00 It was said that the Assyrian king who was fighting against the Babylonians and Medes was killed during the Battle of Nineveh and the new king, Ashur-Uballit II, was offered vassalage if he surrendered. So Assyria could've actually lived on but Ashur-Uballit II chose to fight to last man at Harran and Carchemish. I actually wrote an alt-history on if Ashur-Uballit II chose vassalage instead of fighting to the end. I wrote how Assyria would eventually reassert independence just like how they did with the Mitanni.
That's actually really cool... I never thought what would have happened if Ashur-uballit II had become a vassal of Babylonia or Media. Would he have stayed in Harran or made one of his conditions being that he needed to go back to Ashur? I'm curious as to what happened in your story (you don't have to give away the ending if you don't want, but sounds really interesting). I often thought about doing some sort of alternate history vid, something like "What if the Persians hadn't lost at Salamis" or "What if the Sasanians had one the battle of Qadisiyah" or scenarios like that. I read that when historian first read the description of Nineveh in the bible, they dismissed that such a large city could have existed at that time, until it was found by archeologists.
They also claimed the Hittite empire did not exist from the Bible but then they found archaeological evidence in Turkey.

There are opinions among historians and travelers in many periods, especially in the early period, that the Medes are among the ancestors of the Kurds. The first historical document showing the bond between the Medes and the Kurds is in the Kar-nama, where the Papakan I 242 BC referred to Ardashir as the king of the Kurdish Med in his war against the Kurds.

The mythical story that Herodotus mentioned in his book is a Median story that was made for Cyrus II. The purpose of the creator of the story was to explain the reason for Cyrus's kindness and his soft nature. However, Herodotus got some part of the story wrong and thought that " Spaco" which in Median language, means "Dog" was the name of shepherd's wife but was the name of shepherd's dog. The story wants to tell that Cyrus suckled a dog nipple and drank milk out of it, when he was an infant. Dog was a cherished and well treated animal in Medes society as human's best friend. Median were Horse breeder and the dog was a useful animal for herding horses. Dogs were also useful to give a warning to them of Assyrians and Scythians attacks before they reach to their cities and villages. There is one account that says: When Hephaestion died in Ecbatana, Alexander destroyed the temple of Anahita in Ecbatana out of rage. There was a statute of a dog beside the statute of Anahita. m

Yes Kurds are a directly descent of the Medes. Cyaxares organized and led the the Medes (one of the earliest records of organized Kurds) and led them with an iron fist throughout Iran. However, Cyaxares's son that would be later known as King Astyages gave his daughter to the Persian empire, hence the era of Medo-Persian empire. Sadly that was the end of the Kurds "say" in the game of politics, as the Persian empire would try to erase the name of the Medes. Thank goodness gracious for the Hellas for documenting the truth.

Since you asked what video I’d like to see. I would like you to do a video on The origins of the Danoi, Denyen, Danuna, Dani, the tribe of Dan. Although the Greek story says they came from Danaus’s daughters from Egypt. I believe they came from the Acheans via the Achaemenid Empire into Illyrian. Then into Greece among the Achaeans and then out across the world. I’m particularly interested in the evidence of them spreading copper and bronze culture deep in to Asia, ar least as far as the Red River valley in Vietnam, where they leave their name like elsewhere as Dang. You can see Dang throughout Asia particularly around rivers and other bodies of water. Like you see Dan, Don, Den, Don, Din, Dan in in many place names in Central Asia, the Middle East and Europe. They are represented by the snake, serpent or later dragons

The mountains of Badakhshan a province in Northeast Afghanistan bordering Tajikistan are known to contain a vast amount of Lapiz lazuli, but that would be a bit too far for the Assyrians to reach.

Some things that come to mind: on deioces: i think the inscription of sargon 2 mentions a daiukku....this individual is described as a mannean provincial governor ruling a district bordering Assyria. His son was held hostage by urartians. The name sounds a lot like deioces. And the dates of his office also match

Second point: i am surprised the last assyrian kings are not mentioned in your disscussion on cyaxares. 2 brothers, sons of ahur banipal, where kings, plus their was an assyrian general who sided with nabopollassar. One of the brothers, sinsharishkun (627-612) was very likely the same notorious gay king sardanapallus mention by many classical authors later on. He was the guy who everybody ganged up on and ultimately besieged him at Nineveh. (The bullies where cyaxares and nabopolassar)

On Daiukku, yes, he was possibly a Mannaean vassal king or governor as you pointed out, but just based on the name alone it's difficult to confirm whether he is the same person that the story of Deioces is based on. It is possible since Herodotus claims that he ruled for 53 years and so maybe there was some overlap but again, it could have simply been coincidence that the names sound familiar.
With regard to the last Assyrian kings, I guess I had already talked briefly about them in the program on Assyria (Ashur etil-ilani, the eunuch Sin-shum-lishir, Sin-sharra-ishkun who was presumably killed in the sack of Nineveh and the last, Ashur-uballit II, who fought on until shortly after the fall of Harran), so I suppose I left them out here. I generally don't focus too much on the classical authors when it comes to Assyrian history because generally what they've written was hearsay compiled long after the events they describe took place and also now, we have a lot of Assyrian and Babylonian records and texts that are much more reliable. However, with regard to the Medes, since we don't have too many texts that talk about specifics or the lives of their early kings, we kind of have to use Herodotus because he's really all we've got.

@@maxnetirtimon4121 Hmm that's an interesting question. I'm not sure exactly but I think I that there are a few books that might have this information. One of them is called Shadows in the Desert: Ancient Persia at War by Kaveh Farrokh and the other is called The Achaemenid Persian Army by Duncan Head. I haven't read them in a while and what I remember mainly has to do with battle tactics but I think they did talk about shields and maybe even armor. They are also very well illustrated and so if there are pictures of these 9 types of armor, one of them would likely have it. See if you can get a copy of those... I'll also see if I have drawings/illustrations available. Good luck and let me know if there's any other way that I can help!

Excellent video! The succeeding empires theme was prevalent in the Hellenistic world and finds its way also in the book of Daniel. There, the author mistakenly places a "Darius the Mede" as ruling Babylon between Nabonaid and Cyrus, showing that Medians as rulers of an empire was really a memory and not grounded in history.

The fall of Assyria was not just brought down by the Medes and Babylonians, but by many elements. Shamash-ShumuKin, AshurBanipal’s older brother, whom was so jealous, conspired against him, because he felt he should have inherited the empire and not his younger brother, whom realistically was more apt from all aspects. This weakened the empire, treachery within. The fact is that it took a coalition of Babylonians, Medes, Elamites, Scythians and Persians to bring down Assyria, and yet even that alone was not the whole story of the fall. A scientific article published a few years ago says the fall of the Assyrian Empire began 200 years prior with devastating climate change in the region, and this emboldened all of Assyria’s enemies to muster up against her. All these elements led to the ultimate fall of Assyria , but it is false to conclude “ Assyria would never be heard of again” because under the new Median, later Persian and Parthian empires, Assyrians served in their Armies and Royal services, and Assyria continued being called Asoristan and Athura. Medes/Median were Iranian. Medes/Media was Iran. The capital of the Medes is in Iran and it is a Persian city.
Even the traditional Kurdish clothing bear no resemblance to the Medes/Median clothing. But the traditional clothing of Persian and Lur Iranians is similar to the Medes/Median clothing. And the Luri language is a dialect of old Persian.
All Medes/Median cities today are Persian cities. Persians and Medes/Medians mixed together.

Superb. Very complete presentation of the Median people. Ecbatana or Heckmataneh means place of gatherings. Apparently it had 7 walls each a different colour. It’s well worth a visit in the modern city of Hamedan.
Hi! Yeah I've been to that area once, just for half a day to see the Ganjnameh inscriptions. Beautiful area though, remember going to a restaurant and being invited by a Kurdish family to join them. Another interesting place not to far from Hamadan that I'd like to visit in the future is the fortress of Tepe Nush-i Jan. It's probably the most complete Median site ever to have been uncovered. Do you know anything about the heavenly horse? Or the nesean horse? Its from medes ,later persians, bakhtrians and parthians and sasanian persians used them.
It was the most legendary horse of all times.
The medes were masters of horse breeding, the chinese and greek and persian sources describtion of the medes horses later known as persian horses was that they have had unusual colours ,plus their anatomi was so magestic that most of the nations who seen these horses called the heavenly horses, you can see these horses on sasanian persian stone carvings.
In chinese book of tang they describe the horses havin the colours:
Purple, red, leopard spotted, gold.

@@HistorywithCy dorud is what people say but its incurrect version of the acctual parsi word "Drávát" (dorud is how some medival scholars who didn't speak parsi used to translate dravat from avesta درَوَت to Arabic دُروت، and Iranians are using the arabized version of the actual word 🤔) but its funny you can some farsi words 👍🏼 i didn't expected :)

Parts of Nineveh city did remain, there was also a re-settlement in and around the city of Nineveh under Cyrus and the Parthian empire, even the Assyrian temples of Nabu and Ishtar were rebuilt, and Sennacherib's palace continued to be in use and renovated, Ashur city & the temple of Ashur was also rebuilt and the city was semi-autonomous for centuries, from that point on, Assyrians lived under the Iranic empires as artists, construction workers (laborers, tax payers), and infantry men.
@@Keyhan-c8c oh very interesting, I didn't know that about the word. Oh I know some Farsi because I'm actually Zoroastrian and my ancestors are from Iran, though several generations of my family grew up in India and are called Parsis there.

@@HistorywithCy Parsis=Persians. In the Persian language, we say " Parsi " for Persian. Persian is the Latin, Greek, and English form of Parsi. Arabs don't have the letter "P" and they say Farsi for Parsi. In Muslim countries, they say Fars and Farsi. Even in Iran, we use this word.
