Totally agree with you man! Each video is like an opening to a whole new set of skills and perspectives!!! So much work though, but that's why we're here, to make it happen! Thanks Rob
It's always "THE BADDEST DJ's" that are the most humble. and then you get your local Dj's who nobody knows, They ain't never did no MAJOR Venues. They've NEVER maid any $erious CA$H. But their egos are out of this world. Much respect to you Sir (Rob Swift)! For sharing your knowledge. You are a LEGEND!
You are not only the best teacher, but, you drop wisdom on beat without even tryin'... Because it's all science.... Deep shit... All your videos... It's crazy all the life lessons just in the movement and rhythm... It's LIFE!!!
DJ Rob Swift knows exactly what he's talking about 100%. For ladies and guys to totally depend on your laptop and software does not really make you push yourself to really show what you can do. You need to be able to bust your mixing RAW. That's how I learned over the years to do my mixing before Hurricane Maria damaged my house in 2017 here in the U.S.Virgin Islands And I loss all of my dj equipments, records, etc.
Love the way Rob teaches man. So much encouragement and positive vibes to his students. Even when a scratch isnt perfect he knows that will get tidied up with practice, its more about grasping the fundamentals. Salute..
Goddamn If I had Rob Swift teaching me like this when I was learning how to properly scratch in and drop on the 1, it would have cut my learning time in half. These students are INCREDIBLY fortunate to have him!
I know he wasn’t, but when I watch these and from this angle it seems like he’s teaching ME. Goodness!! What a legend. I’m goin back to practice my drops and these right N o W ! 💪💪💪 Great Video Sir!
This is the perfect explanation for the improvisation of Djing vs the formatted/stiff style that I've been seeing on UA-cam.. very similar to Jazz.. its was meant to be more improv than notation..
thank you for making available your knowledge online for free. It helps me learn more and develop the skills that will improve my craft. Thank you all the way from Nairobi Kenya
Man that thing you said about emotion feel etc is so on point, i started early 90ties being in Hiphop since then and i can truly say that i dont hear many people say the words you say my brother. Much Love, Noah Campbellock Campbell
Rob Swift, I love the way you explain ideas and techniques. This video is super helpful! Thank you for pushing the art and culture forward into the future!
I had no idea these videos existed until last night. Amazing stuff, Rob. I wish I'd had someone around to explain all of this stuff when I was a kid playing around with turntables back in '89/'90. I'd have sucked a whole lot less. :p
I finished watching this, then I want back to my system, put it on absolute mode, dimmed the laptop screen and got to work. I need to get rid of a lot of bad muscle memory. Thank you Rob.
A very very very very vital point of DJing that you broke down for these people here I appreciate what you're doing here I had this idea so so so many years ago before the internet but in any case I salute you this is a very important part of DJing that I believe me new School DJ's have missed because they never learn to beat match by ear
Am so glad I had a cousin from your era he forced me to use my ears he frown at digital decks and I was born in 1990 learning 2006 , what the student is describing is achieved with repetition .. my TIP is just beat match beat match beat match by ear with vinyl to get the flow , and to see the picture in clarity switch back and forth between digital mixing for 2 days then back on 5he vinyl for 2 and so on .... it will click at somepoint
I'm loving these tutorials. The language you use to teach the art is so honest. It's really inspiring. Please keep doing what you're doing. Much love and respect from Melbourne, Australia.
Im new with learning skratching, & all these awesome techniks & skills & stylez, been learning for a few years now, but, without instinct, & heart & soul gettn put into your love of DJing, & skratching, its basically like your Reading a script at a rehearsal or something, cause, without your own personality gettn implemented into your practice, & without your own feelings, & love of what we do, then its simply just a mirroring of DJing, cause you'll never have your own style, & soul into it!! I wicked agree with what you said, that is completely true my ninja, & thats really a great point to make..... 👍💪🙏😎
My man this is a great video. I never learned on cdj and I watch grandmaster flash video about the rotation mind blow. Kinda like you teach dude with cue without pressing cue. Man I will use this as practice, learning all over again. I consider my self pretty nice with crowd rocking. But tricks and scratches are trash. Wicky wicky is all I got. So I'm learning. Wish I was in NYC.
the first team i actually heard of in the late 90s was the x men! then i came across CRAZE! ROB SWIFT is that grand master of all this! his philosophy about it all makes sense and it practical! d-styles is another master of intuition!
What i have noticed playing small garden parties here and there, the thing that interests and impresses the people when watching the dj the most, is not some scratch jerk off fest, but letting those decks fly and backspin, then catch on point with perfect timing...put the cherry on the cake with a tight juggle pattern and let the beat flow.

You're the living legend, Rob! I respect your work and this YT lessons a lot. I've been listening you and the rest of turntablists at early 2000, but never made a single one scratch. I was a true Hop Hop head, emcee, but never a DJ. A year ago I decided to start with a little controller to DJ a little bit. Now I own a Rane Twelves and Seventy. (After watching your tutorials I regret I didn't bought a real turntables). In past year I have watched a lot of tutorials from other guys, but I have found in yours the true meaning of real shit about music, turntablizm and all that. Thanks man, much respect! One question, how do you use headphones to monitor your transitions, split cue, half mix half cue...? One more time, thanks for everything you share with us, much love!
I can honestly say when I've watched roc raida on VHS I've seen what swift is kinda talking about in this video... I would always kind of focus on the body movement I'll see what he or how he feels for what he's doing... don't know if I make sense but...
I just picked up my first set of tables. Since i dont have much of a record collection i was planning to learn via digital but after watching your videos i want to learn on vinyl so i dont visually depend on the software. Im not very visual so, why teach myself visual cues when i feel i have a keen ear for music.

Just learning the art and every video is very useful, thxs and keep the videos coming.
It take years of not going outside, staying in your room and practicing at least 10 hours a day..... Most people arent willing to sacrifice that time

Hey Rob what exactly is pocket? I think I understand when I hear it but I dont have the technical understanding. I love your coaching #TeachThemWell
Pocket refers to your timing. Keeping time. Not falling out of time. In other words, timing is everything.
