I love this series so much! I bought the first Style Savvy for a dollar at a thrift store just because I was trying to build up my game collection and thought it was cheap shovelware. I was so wrong. I spent a solid year playing that game for an hour or two before bed and then my partner gifted me Trendsetters and I was shocked! I didn’t know it was a series at the time, but I fell in love with Trendsetters just like I had with the previous game. He gifted me Fashion Forward for my birthday one year and I love that game too and just love the fact that I own it, but it’s not my fav. Fashion Forward just feels like a step back to me from the previous game, but I still revisit these games and absolutely love them!
New Style Boutique 2 (Fashion Forward) is BY FAR my favourite game of the series, since I got the demo around when it came out. Bought a physical copy soon after and fell in love with the series. I've gotten physical copies of the game late last year, and I think New Style Boutique (Trendsetters) is by far my second favourite, ESPECIALLY its OST and the character I made for it (Tabitha is definitely my favourite player character out of all of my save files). Probably the only good fashion games of their niche, though I feel Fashion Dreamer is an entirely different category. Also love how you drew Sophie and Callie in the thumbnail. They are some of my favourite characters of all time, and definitely my favourites in their game alone! I'm planning on making my own spiritual successor in the same niche since I love this series sm, and add onto the original formula to make it what I want it to be. At the very least there'll be no genderlocked clothing since imo it's more effort to have genderlocked clothing rather than not (especially since everyone will use the same model). Also it's a pain with the second game especially since you have two stocks rather than one and have to manage both, and my men's clothing stock is always understocked, especially with the more expensive brands.
aaa a spiritual successor without genderlocked clothing SOUNDS GREAT and YES the 2 different stocks were VERY annoying in trendsetters! I WISH YOU GOOD LUCK (and thank you for liking the sophie and callie art. they are adorable I couldn't resist.)
Thank you for making these videos. Its always a fun watch. As a young boy playing these demos and always dreaming about wearing the outfits, its always been sureal going back now as an adult woman and no longer having that disconnect. Playing along with the videos has been a great experience that brought me back to an earlier time in my life. So yet again, thank you for your silly videos.

I grew up with Styling Star as a child, from playing the demo over and over to mustering up the wits to ask my mom to buy it. I still boot up my 3ds to play it, even if I can’t bring myself to reset my progress. The story was just so good for my little kid self, and the nostalgic attachment i have to the series is incredible. I’m still working on homebrewing my 3DS purely to play the other games. A series to remember for sure.
honestly, without the demos A LOT of us wouldn’t be here lol it’s so fun to hear how we all had similar experiences of replaying it over and over until finally getting it!!
only 30 mins in so far but this retrospective is so fun! of all the games, this one is probably the one i have the least fond memories of. the og was my childhood and then i feel like trendsetters improved on every aspect of it! i think it was mainly the real time clock that did it for me, as well as the shallow story.. maybe it was because i was a kid (haven't seen your trendsetters video yet!) but the story of trendsetters felt a lot more substantial. i picked up styling star again recently after years of never finishing it and i'm having so much fun! the story is silly but sooo indepth and there are so many different scenarios to dress your customers and idols for!!! loved your comments about the art style, especially because the character designer hoshino lily did the character designs for one of my favourite anime (mawaru penguindrum), so i have a special fondness for their crazy sparkly eyes 😭 (trendsetters also has my favourite art style) if you end up doing a video on it, i'm very keen to hear your thoughts! once i'm done with styling star i'll probably revisit the older games, maybe i'll fall in love with this one again! sorry for the rambling lol tl;dr love this series and your video 🫶

I genuinely love your videos on Style Savvy (New Style Boutique, I'm American lol). I've been a fan of this series since I was a kid, and own all 4 of the games. I always thought that Style Savvy is extremely (unusually) underated and that there should be more content from the community (besides the reddit lol). There have always been Style savvy appreciation vids (like Justace's, for example), but they are so few and far between so when I saw your first Style Savvy vid it was like I was uncovering a hidden gem. All that to say I'm so excited to watch this vid especially since Fashion Foward was the 2nd entry I owned (my first being Style Savvy 2008). Anyway love these videos its great to see people still breathing life into this community (not that its dying lol).

I adore your dedication in doing such detailed videos for these games I've loved so much. This is also my fav game and the hair salon and caprice chalet are THE BEST HANDS DOWN. I have a soft spot for the first one, but fashion forward always will be my first choice to play. It feels so alive, returning to trendsetters after playing this one, I couldn't help but feel the map empty or the characters felt plain. As you said, there are lots of improvements and some mechanics are missed, but it's probably the highlight of the series. I've never player the last one, because of....the art style. So I'm very excited to see a video on it!!

I had the style savvy trendsetters but fashion forward was where my love for the franchise really bloomed!! One of the first games i ever pre ordered and sought after before release (before that games would just kinda appear into my world and i’d get them u know? like i didnt follow upcoming releases) Definitely had its problems but god was it a good game, and I LOVED the characters and story!!! wish i still had the cartridge!
Just found out they never changed the "ethnic" image in the italian adaptation thanks to this video💀 even on the 3rd game it's still called like that, i remember i always hated it lmao

You don't know how many hours I have sunk into all these games.... except Fashion Dreamer, haha. Fashion Forward is actually my least favourite of the three. I just wasn't as big a fan of the more "garish" art style and colour palette. Still played the heck out of it though. I downloaded the demo way back and only played that, on repeat, over and over again. And since 3DS demos have a select amount of plays before it just tells you to install the real game, I would play it and then keep the game on rest mode until i played it again or was absolutely sure I wanted to play something else, I had to consider the pros and cons of closing out the game and using up a play turn☠️
The art style of this game is beautiful and I love the animations. I used to play Fashion Designer: Style Icon with my sister as a child, this game with a long ass name just reminds me of those times!

I was never as much into fashion forward as its predecessor and it’s for one really stupid and petty reason, and it’s that it felt more fake. In the previous game you ARE a boutique owner, in fashion forward you’re someone essentially PRETENDING they’re a boutique owner with that whole doll dimension dollhouse thing and that just ruined the whole atmosphere of it for me as a kid
totally get youuu. playing all 3 from an older perspective without the "new game = better game" attitude i had as a kid makes me prefer trendsetters icl. it feels more real and mature. if they added in the NPC interactions from fashion forward itd be PERFECT
I remember when i got my copy of this game i got it the day of the north America release date August 19, 2016 And i was 13 i still have my copy till this day and use the game for outfit ideas lol This game series give me so much nostalgia

You should try out Fab style sometime! It's basically like new style boutique but you can date guys :) I dont know if its also made by synsophia but there are some really big similarities, even the same fonts. You can emulate it with citra, it's japan exclusive but there is a fan translation.

The Basic shop theme might remind you of Miitopia if you've ever played that. I played Miitopia religiously when it came out, alongside Fashion Forward since I bought that game at around the same time. Specifically Map: Peculia from the Miitopia OST sounds like the Basic shop theme to me, but the songs that play with wigs and makeup in the Switch port also kinda sound like it.
yes!! miitopia is a common answer - thing is I only ever lived off the demo (on both 3ds and switch lol) so I THINK it must've reminded me of the 'peoples profile' theme since that's something I woulda definitely heard. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE 🦅
I love New Style Boutique 2. It was the first nsb game I ever played and the first 3ds game I ever played -- in fact, my new 3ds came with nsb2 installed in it, a theme that I unfortunately couldn't get because the code was lost, and a lovely case that made it look like a purse. I drilled so many hours of my life in this game as a kid and it helped me discover my tastes in fashion and when i rediscovered the game last year it made me realise just how GOOD it is. It's incredibly fun and engaging. When the 3rd nsb released I was also borderline addicted, but the 2nd game just has something special. It does boil my blood that I could never get nsb1 and completely my trilogy, but perhaps I'll get lucky and find it in a thrift shop or on some 2nd hand store, who knows. PS: The shop music makes me so emotional when it gets to the main motif. Anyway, I love the music, and the boho chic theme despite not being my fav, sounds like Redd's theme from ACNL so W. I love the rock theme (I am a rock music fan irl)

i love your videos sm including this one and i love this series but hot take... fashion forward is my least favorite entry in the series it's not BAD it's just not as story-driven as the other three? like i miss fashion contests and this could have been an opportunity to introduce adelaide as a bonafide threat to your brand!! (although she's the closest we'll get to an actual rival ily bad bitch adelaide!) but it's just so hard to progress and unlock everything because a lot of things are just by chance, like the hair since you kinda just have to wait for npcs to give it to you. (maybe i'm just salty i haven't unlocked the special skirt option even after 9 years of having this game wait holy shit has it been nine years????) and the magic premise is cute it was just so random compared to the three other games/how you inherited the shop also i hate rainbow and having to take pictures of all the colors why do i need to do that why do i have to wait until the spring to get PINK????? anyway i'll play the game again ig also your drawings are ???? I loved the Style Boutique franchise! You don't know how many hours I have sunk into all these games.... except Fashion Dreamer, haha.
Fashion Forward is actually my least favourite of the three. I just wasn't as big a fan of the more "garish" art style and colour palette. Still played the heck out of it though.
Thank you for doing these videos, and definitely looking forward to your opinions on SB3. Which, judging by this video, we might heavily disagree on.

I downloaded the demo way back and only played that, on repeat, over and over again. And since 3DS demos have a select amount of plays before it just tells you to install the real game, I would play it and then keep the game on rest mode until i played it again or was absolutely sure I wanted to play something else, I had to consider the pros and cons of closing out the game and using up a play turn☠️

I was never as much into fashion forward as its predecessor and it’s for one really stupid and petty reason, and it’s that it felt more fake. In the previous game you ARE a boutique owner, in fashion forward you’re someone essentially PRETENDING they’re a boutique owner with that whole doll dimension dollhouse thing and that just ruined the whole atmosphere of it for me as a kid
totally get youuu. playing all 3 from an older perspective without the "new game = better game" attitude i had as a kid makes me prefer trendsetters icl. it feels more real and mature. if they added in the NPC interactions from fashion forward itd be PERFECT

You should try out Fab style sometime! It's basically like new style boutique but you can date guys :) I dont know if its also made by synsophia but there are some really big similarities, even the same fonts. You can emulate it with citra, it's japan exclusive but there is a fan translation.

The Basic shop theme might remind you of Miitopia if you've ever played that. I played Miitopia religiously when it came out, alongside Fashion Forward since I bought that game at around the same time. Specifically Map: Peculia from the Miitopia OST sounds like the Basic shop theme to me, but the songs that play with wigs and makeup in the Switch port also kinda sound like it.
yes!! miitopia is a common answer - thing is I only ever lived off the demo (on both 3ds and switch lol) so I THINK it must've reminded me of the 'peoples profile' theme since that's something I woulda definitely heard. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE 🦅

I love New Style Boutique 2. It was the first nsb game I ever played and the first 3ds game I ever played -- in fact, my new 3ds came with nsb2 installed in it, a theme that I unfortunately couldn't get because the code was lost, and a lovely case that made it look like a purse. I drilled so many hours of my life in this game as a kid and it helped me discover my tastes in fashion and when i rediscovered the game last year it made me realise just how GOOD it is. It's incredibly fun and engaging. When the 3rd nsb released I was also borderline addicted, but the 2nd game just has something special. It does boil my blood that I could never get nsb1 and completely my trilogy, but perhaps I'll get lucky and find it in a thrift shop or on some 2nd hand store, who knows.
PS: The shop music makes me so emotional when it gets to the main motif. Anyway, I love the music, and the boho chic theme despite not being my fav, sounds like Redd's theme from ACNL so W. I love the rock theme (I am a rock music fan irl)

it's not BAD it's just not as story-driven as the other three? like i miss fashion contests and this could have been an opportunity to introduce adelaide as a bonafide threat to your brand!! (although she's the closest we'll get to an actual rival ily bad bitch adelaide!) but it's just so hard to progress and unlock everything because a lot of things are just by chance, like the hair since you kinda just have to wait for npcs to give it to you. (maybe i'm just salty i haven't unlocked the special skirt option even after 9 years of having this game wait holy shit has it been nine years????) and the magic premise is cute it was just so random compared to the three other games/how you inherited the shop
also i hate rainbow and having to take pictures of all the colors why do i need to do that why do i have to wait until the spring to get PINK?????
