Are rider airbags the best crash protection?

- I'm testing a rider airbag vest in all off-road conditions to see if it will deploy without crashing, then push the limits further to find what point it will deploy and how much protection it will give me.

Adam, I fully commend your commitment to that test. It’s not easy to intentionally take a fall. The video captured it perfectly. I could literally see the point of inflation when you were about 8-9 above the ground. And the audible “pop” was clear.
Glad you didn’t hurt anything else in the process. We are the same age and injuries just plainly take longer to get over than they used too. 😂
Adam, 48 years and the self preservation is high. LOL !
I love your videos and adventures at 56 years old and getting another ADV bike soon. Thanks for everything!
Good for you Dog !!
55 and just got my first one.
adam, at 48 you're still riding like someone who is 18 :) at 35 I have a lot friends ditching a lot of hobbies because they say theyre too old, but not me ... staying young at heart makes life worth living
I've been riding since I was 10, now 60- I will never give it up.
Got my first dirt bike at 40, i'm right there with ya, only older not old
Yea it is like , " sorry man i cannot ride today i got to do ( insert excuse here)"It is mind-numbing. Someone should make an app for local rider to get together and ride. Who cares if you are friends. WE are all friends when we ride.
@@wraith511802003 If you're ever in west Michigan I'll ride with ya. There are some FB groups dedicated to it as well.
There are still people in their 60s and 70s at some motorcross tracks, it really depends how active you were when you were younger, no way can you go from a couch potato to a MX rider at any age, it is just too much on your body. Adam's father was a very good rider and he rode till his late age as well. Adam is a legend.
Probably the most entertaining YT motorbike channel - thanks for your attitude, it´s so refreshing!
Thanks for the video Adam, I'm home recovering from 5 broken ribs on my Yamaha T7 and I was reading up on this airbag. The people in the store have told me that there is only circuit and street mode, and I have been a little undecided. Now after watching your fantastic video I am more sure to buy it. Thanks for your videos!!
Hi Adam, hands down one of the best and funniest motorcycle gear product tests I’ve seen. Love your work as usual. I think it’s convinced me to buy one.
Top video, I have a Helite E Vest that you wear over your jacket. I came off a few months back and it had deployed before I hit the tarmac. This design stabilises your kneck and goes down your back protecting the base of your spine. All I can say is that like you I am sold and now i will not ride anywhere without it.
All I had to do to reset the vest was to buy a new cylinder and it was good to go again. The bike was a bit more challenging 😮
😅
Tried the alpinstars one for a day of street riding/touring but it wasn't for me. Having it under my jacket i felt very constraint and started affecting my blood circulation. I ended up buying a Helite airbag vest that goes over the jacket and it was much more comfortable for me.
@@cgeo3380 They are made to be worn with tech air compatible jacket.
Only time my Helite deployed was when I did not fully lower my side stand before parking my bike fully loaded with camp gear.
Sounded like someone let off a shot by my ears and then I looked like the Michelin Man.
What a great real world test!
Thank you for sacrificing your instincts of self preservation for us viewers! That's no small task!
Thanks for the test! I own the vest for 2years and i was scared of accidental deploy on my F850 GS but now I see I will be just fine 👍😀
I hope they pay you well, because you did a stellar job advertising this vest. You proved it works when it has to, and only when it has to. Loved it.
Best possible test and hat’s off for the commitment.
48 and hucking it over the bars for the video, love it
Great to see someone test it off-road. Looking forward to the off-road / Dakar version to hit the market later this year. That thing saved Chuckie in the 22 Dakar..
That video was a riot! 😂 and you informative. Beautiful farm!
Your commentary in this vid is PURE GOLD!
What a test! Not only of the technology. But also of self-preservation. Hats off to you, Günter/Nürnberg
You took one for the team. Thank you! I'm sold on the vest.
That's awesome, thanks for the review. I was wondering about these. Glad to see you still have your CR. Love the old 2 strokes
Thanks for the no nonsense no sales fluff honest test. What a game changer. If you are young or old you should seriously try to budget this into your riding gear setup.
Mate you are insane! There is no way in hell I would purposefully send myself over that monster of a log to see "if" the airbag deploys! Glad it did.. so we can see u make more such wicked videos!
That was a downright awesome presentation!
Thank you
Absolutely love your videos Adam. Re watched almost every single on at least once over. Keep up the great content and I can't wait to see what you will be doing next.
This is very interesting as I get older and haven’t started to back off twisting throttle!
Seeing the Tech Air in action, impressed. Alpinestars 👌👍
Off road airbag technology is coming, and it will literally save lives.
Lol... Its alredy here
Already here. All Dakar ideas wear them.
@@alrightdave6135 I'm aware, talking about publicly available. Alpinestars was supposed to be public back in November and still isn't out.
Just like helmet first get people to wear them... That's the challenge
Maybe A* will finally have their rally suit out for consumers this year.
Thanks Adam, this series has been enjoyable and useful. This channel is one of the best around for adventure and dirt riders and being a WA just tops it off 👍
Great video Brother! Thanks for being willing to take the hit to show us how well it works.
Cracking review...well done! No other reviews like this on the Internet. Made me buy one.
Great! love it, just started riding again after 25 years, bought a new KLR650 last November, been riding around Melbourne city and weekend rider. I finally feel like I am friends with the bike. I have limited off road experience, had a TT350 for 3 years when I lived in outback QLD (Yaraka country) but this KLR is a little heavier. I have learned a lot from you plus the 'Champ U' course which taught a lot about trail braking. So you can see I am a bit of a novice when it comes to offroad. Thanks to your videos, I'll be safter out there that is for sure. I get the fear factor lol, healthy adrenalin rush, because I'm 20 years also than you with a a 10th of your experience. lol. If you run a course, I am in!, just a bit of a ride from Melbourne :-)
Your the man👏👍 thanks for putting yourself out there like that. Your testing 100% sold me on it. I will be looking to get one soon👊
Beautiful riding and the best ad for the vest.
Always use mine every ride but i turn it off in offroad fearing it would deploy prematurely on gnarly stuff. BUT seeing your test NOW I am confident it will not. Will leave it on all the time
Sold 👍🏼
Thanks for your review and taking a spill for us Adam, love your work mate 🤘🏼
epic video mate .. i was thinking of buying one .. only thing that held me back was if i hit a pothole and it accidentally deploys.. Then I found your video ...I'm buying it now!! BIG THANKS MATE !!
PROPER TESTING! - Well done mate!
Very impressive. You gave it a great test, riding the PISS out of those bikes
Well I always wondered about this and your test has me sold on this product
hats off to your skills- I am always watching these clips with my mouth open lol. hats off man...
Great. Video, thanks again !
Great demonstration Adam! 48 years young and still flying hi! 👍
ARIEMANN whenever i talk about my CR i always quote your line from velocity disorder in your voice. A 2001 CR250, one of the best dirtbikes ever made.
What a tech review, mind blowing 👏
Thank you for taking the beat for us 😀
The kind of testing we have all been waiting for.
Sitting here watching this, I am just over 2 months since i shattered my shoulder (4 part proximal humerus fracture) and I am absolutely sold. The healing process sucks, especially as you get older. Curious how this works in other environments? Could you use this for skiing as well or is the algorithm only for motorcycle applications? I want one for every sport I do now. Truly, I'd pay just about anything not to go through this again.
I've been thinking of these for me and the wife but never seen a real world review until now so cheers mate
Ha! Really enjoyed that. You went above and beyond at the end.
I’m convinced, getting one for this season 👍👍👍
🤣 You look like one of the guards from the original Tron! Great vid, loving this all this new content.
Great video mate ! Love the self preservation comment …. At 53 and an ex-racer I couldn’t relate more ! LOL. After seeing this review I will definitely be getting one of these for riding my YZ450FX in the British Columbia backcountry ………...... cheers from Canada, mate!
Funny product review. Well done!
@ARiemann1 - Awesome video and thanks for your dedication testing this type of stuff! Question, do you wear this instead of body armor, or in addition to body armor?
Thanks a lot for risking yourself and actually deploying the bloody thing in a real scenario! But I wonder how it felt, did it soften the fall a lot?
Hello ARiemann
Thank you for all your videos
I started riding off road in the 1980s
Im 57
About 5 years ago i decided to stop driving cars or trucks i just been on a pedal bicycle to do my travel
The pandemic took away a girl i loved since we were in the 8th grade together
Recently i decided to buy a
2023 Triumph Tiger sport 850
I plan to make my way around with it then in the future get one of the higher spec models, im 6ft 1in and 225 evenly distributed i have long arms and legs so i fit on this very well
I enjoy and learn from all your videos

And in the future ill go higher
Im also doing this for an emotional help
And alot of your videos help me as well
Even the one changing the front tire with the bike teathered to that tree
All happiness to you
Take Care my Friend
Thank you
Ill be looking for you
I wish you all happiness
Take care my friend
Great vid, AR! I like the shoulder protection it seems to offer - that’s where I hit most often on my way off the bike. Question: does the vest require a paid subscription? If so, that’d be a drawback
The coolest moto channel on UA-cam.....nuff said.
Last year a deer slammed into me when riding. If I had this vest on, I probably wouldn't have broken ten ribs, my collarbone, and my shoulder blade. Which would have allowed me to use crutches for my broken leg instead of spending eight weeks in a wheelchair. Think I might buy one.
Great to see this topic covered by an adventure rider!
If there is any way for you to upload files in 4k, I'd greatly appreciate that though
I can’t wait until someone like Leatt offers a solid air bag setup. It’ll probably offer traditional D30 or foam pads, hydration options, neck brace compatibility and hopefully air bags.
I’m a firm believer there’s no such thing as too much protection.
Damn it Adam you’re a natural on bikes
Thanks for this video! How much effort does it take to reactivate the vest?
Thats so cool man!!
Great vid cheers. I have this vest for the S1000RR and just did the Pyrenees on a KTM 350 exe-f. Should have worn me air vest instead of clunky body armour 👍
Great video as always. I can vouch that it won’t easily go off. I had a slide on a left bend (road) but being on a Bmw Gsa the angle the bike slid down the road with me on top it didn’t set it off. It went off when the bike turned and faced the opposite way, I never touched the ground so I would been happy if it never did.
“ I’m going to remove my goggles so you can see the fear in my eyes” lol my kids were laughing. My oldest son who is 11 years old told me “ he is a cool dude. “ 😮 lol. We love your videos. Sometimes I can’t understand your accent lol but is all cool. Greetings Saludos 🖖 from Texas.
Hay - 702k subs! that's great! love the vids!
nice one. Greetings from Romania.
New to the channel. My blood is boiling, snow is melting. I can't wait to ride!
That was great entertainment as well as informative AR…my 11 yr old who is not into motorbikes was 100% invested…even before you said it he said to me, ‘..dad he’s going to have to crash to get it to go off…cool’ 😆
👍 Can’t get over how perfect the terrain is there! Is that typical throughout the year, or is the lack of underbrush and foliage just seasonal?
Hi Adam, awesome test and great comments, thank you very much! Brief question: do you think that this vest is as good as conventional protectors for back and chest? I noticed the vest does not cover the very low end of the spine, which conventional protectors do. In addition to that you would need something to protect the elbows?
I've had one for a while now. Just a bit hot in summer , but worth it if I come off
I couldn’t contain my laughter watching this one 🤣🤣
Alpine Stars stress to read the user manual, one of the caveats of its use is it's not for Enduro or Off Road riding, and that after deployment it has to be returned for service. It also needs charging every 30 hours. Street is for street / good gravel road use only (in big red type in the manual), Race is for 100kmh+ track use. Great video and no doubt great product for road and 'Adventure' riders when maintained properly.
That took some doing 😅 love it Adam 💪🍺
Hi love your videos and your way of thinking. I would like to know what do you use for knee guard protection
Thank you
I got a Tech Air 5 after a crash on track where i had all my gear written off. I actually bought the airbag BEFORE the rest of the gear, so i wouldn't be naughty and ride without it. Amazing piece of tech.
My airbag vest went off after I bent over to check my tire pressure and then got back up to continue driving.
My Back was bent and i was wearing a jacket when the airback vest went off, the experience was painful but after two days you don't feel it anymore.
Cost to repair the vest is 180 euros the first time but the second time is 300 euros.
I learned that you should immediately turn off the vest when you get off the bike.
No frickin way your 48 that’s insane I thought you where like 28-32 but your almost as old as my dad and I’m 22 that’s crazy amazing job staying in shape and good health especially for a hard core rider I hope to be just like you when I’m older!! Thanks for all the amazing advice lessons and motivation you provide to the community
Reality is, Riding offroad bikes is a fountain of youth. keeps cognitive sharp and whole body work out. cardio everything.
That vest.will go nicely with the “How to power slide” video
I had one of those airbag vests as a street rider. Smacked an suv that pulled in front of me. Played Superman cartwheel in the air to pavement. Only partial fracture to one vertebrae. No surgery. Should have been in a wheelchair otherwise. Plan on lightweight off-road dual sport when I finish healing. I'll be wearing an airbag vest. Maybe one of mechanical tether styles until the recharge fees come down on the electronic. But that Alpinestars tech air is my pick of the electronic vests.
This is your best video ever. Hilarious, I was laughing the whole time. Just waiting for it to pop.
"the dude's in a bit of trouble, let him concentrate..." Oh man, funny AF Thanks for this one brother, yeah, been thinking of one of these too.
Aussie summer though? Under an Adventure jacket would ir add heat retention?
Tried the alpinstars one for a day of street riding/touring but it wasn't for me. Having it under my jacket i felt very constraint and started affecting my blood circulation. I ended up buying a Helite airbag vest that goes over the jacket and it was much more comfortable for me.
Excellent, but this means you have to wear your bag back loose (or not at all) to allow airbag deployment; it would be nice if AStars could sell an optional waterbag bundle to use along with this airbag jacket. I'm seriously considering this; I ride dunes often, so carrying water is necessary. Thank you for the review.
IN-MOTION on a KLIM vest saved my old body literally +6 times.
In-motion has 3 ride options, street, adventure, and closed track.... love it, won't leave home without it 😛
Tested and tuned at Dakar and MotoGP 😁
Hey Adam, the airbag tech looks awesome for Finke and fast desert races but a question over hydration. Do you know if it is Cambelbak compatible? It looks like you'd need room for it to deploy and the chest strap would be in the way. Cheers.
Can’t wait for A* to finally release the RallyAir
Love watching you. Are we going to see another dirt kitchen one day?
Adam, love the vids and follow all of them , loving the safety aspect of this product, but can I ask a question , what’s your take on neck braces for adv riding? Not motocross but off road 😂 keep it up mate , learning a lot from your vids 👍
Carlsberg don’t make back yards but if they did ……. What a thing to have your own track to play on 😊
🤣🤣🤣 PMSL yeah I've been looking at a few different brands of them, some very expensive and require a subscription, but I like the Alpinestars airbags. We'll see. Thanks for the demo Adam loved it, ready for a pub fight 🤣🤙👍
Been riding with a Japanese Hit Air for 12 years, just upgraded to a new one, and love them. Would be great to see a version that is compatible with a Leatt brace. I guess it could be argued that airbag vests like these do away with the need for one, maybe not...
@Tim Arrowsmith
Hit-Air's St-Rc is the only choice or my first choice.
Down right funny. Down under deployment. Great stuff. Hit the like button twice.....
That hat is great! 👌
I can see the use for highway riding where you would normally hit above 80mph just to keep up and ahead of traffic, but riding a dirt bike, a neck brace and a spine protector will do just fine, cause most falls will be way under 40mph as we saw here. It's the impact at high speed that kills most riders. Never ride without a neck brace if you want to live! I know, cause I have over half a million miles of riding experience and Adam intentionally fell just to activate the jacket; he is an exceptional rider and a truly a legend.
awsome ,you look like a football player ,cheers well done .
Best to date!
Love it!!!
