      Partial to the first large light fixture because of Buckminster Fuller. Have you ever been inside one of the buildings he designed? Also, did you figure out what Queenie was saying? Was it indeed the lamp that got her talking?

      You found SO many cool items at bargain prices: the metal light fixture, boat bookends, dining table, tea kettle, table lamps and of course the Escher print ❤.... Oof, love it all. I have many candle sconces (wood, metal, mirrored, etc.) but can't decide where to put them 😄

      That $1.00 pillow? C’mon! Also, so glad you got the big dining table. I let a beautiful carved table go years ago, and I still wish I’d figured out a way to make it mine.

    Because of your videos I have been going to Goodwill on Tuesdays (I'm over 55) to buy frames primarily. I have a large number of pictures I have wanted to frame and the options at Goodwill are amazingly high quality and amazingly inexpensive. In the process I have picked up items that just needed to be hung: a huge photo of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, still life painting from the 60's in original frame, and a framed print of a bullfighter from the '60's too-- something that not that long ago I would have hated, and now, I cherish, saving it for another generation, I hope.

    Those little French prints are images by the artist Erté, one of my personal favorites. He did fashion illustration, sculpture and design in the 1920's in Paris. Nice Singer! if you turn it over you should be able to find its serial number on the base plate and look it up on the index. My vintage Singer is a 100 years old this February and still going strong with a new treadle belt. There is a couple little online specialty shops for parts. You might have found a rare tabletop featherweight judging by the case, so definitely look it up.

    The sewing machine could be put into a box -your parents could make one-that just fits the base. You then can put it anywhere- shelf, table etc. There are channels dedicated to showing you how to restore the mechanism of the machine. I have a collection of vintage machines and they are workhorses. You can even buy a 'potted motor' if you want to make it electric powerred.

    Ooooooh a black shade on that brass lamp base will look so good, like a bit of an art deco look, will. Look good with the three vintage prints from the flee market. I also love the ship print, can't wait to see the whole look yu are going to put together for your living room.

    I have that same M.C. Escher print (along with a few others). I paid more than $6.00 for it, lol. I appreciate your eye for style. I love every item you picked up! The metal pendant lamp will definitely look better with a larger bulb. And what a bargain on that $50 table! Glad you grabbed it and can modify it to fit the space. Lots of great deals. Win wins all around, although Queenie seems to disapprove of that lamp 🤣
    I do like your idea of using magnetized wood strips on a string to hang art on. I'm using that more often because I love the added decorative element to a wall (and break up the monotony of square frames) plus eliminates the hassle of matting and/or getting glass cut to size.

  • @xingcat
    @xingcat Місяць тому

    Just soaking your terracotta piece in water and letting it dry out in the sun can help age it. For moss, yogurt can be used to encourage growth, or even a little miss from your backyard.

  • @MarianneInmarsilia

    You can brush the terra-cotta with garden lime or soak them in salty water to age them….another option is to brush it with yogurt and put it in a plastic bag outdoors in a shady spot for a week or two, then wash and brush it. Sometimes just leaving it outdoors in the elements for a season will do the trick .

    I understand cutting the table down to fit the space. I think it would be a good idea, though, if you kept the mechanism underneath and the pieces so that you have the option of a larger table for special occasions when you have several people over for dinner or a large spread laid out for a party. It’s nice to have the flexibility of a bigger table when you need it. I look forward to seeing how you spruce it up.

    Try this on the BACK of your terra cotta piece. Rub some dark dirt on a small spot then wash it off. Some particles will remain and it will look like it was buried and then dug up. No cost! If you like the effect do the whole front.

    I am chuffed that you did purchase the dining room table! In the video when you found it, I thought the details on the bases and top were just lovely, and that you could make it the length you'd like! I also adore the atrium lamp - perfect for that spot. Lately, I am into vintage made in England ironstone and pottery. Was fortunate to pick up 4 plates for $3 apiece at a local thrift store. The thrill of the hunt!!

    Hello, Andrew 😊 That is not a tea pot, it is a tea kettle for boiling water. Then you would make tea by adding the water from the kettle to a tea pot. 🫖

    Plain live yoghurt definitely works for ageing terracotta. Leave it outdoors long enough and you'll get a nice greenish lichen hue. 🦁
    The yoghurt also works well for any nice stone garden statues - eg goddess-type figuers - that just look too 'new'.

    • @Ron-Ayres
      @Ron-Ayres День тому

      Also, loving the wall art at 9:27 - the kind of moody midnight blue hillside.

      Final comment! The architectural wall art at 10: 05 is gorgeous, and I think would look lovely mounted inside a plain wooden frame. You can get sticky pads that project the print out a little from the mount, which really elevates it.
      A lot of artists frame their originals this way. It works particualrly well with torn-edged 300gsm paper, so you could freshly tear the edge of your piece, or just stick with the existing rough edge.

    3 things : the geometric chandelier is awesome. Before you even mentioned it, I thought it screamed for a larger bulb, and then voila, you showed us you thought the same thing. I think you could even go larger than the one you found. I do think the bulb itself should sit it the center of the outer sphere tho, so maybe shorten the tube it hangs from.
    The dining table is superb. Could you possibly use the amount you trim off to make into benches for seating ? Or shelves.
    I have a few of those old sewing machine parts folding boxes, they are so cool.
    And yes, shipping fees suck, but forget about it, the lion head was totally worth it.

    I loved the Kilim pillow. So beautiful! My newest "hunt" is for a quirky mix of nostalgic + paranormal. My guest bathroom is filled with oddities like the Loch Ness monster, a kraken, an old painting with a UFO in the background, etc. Currently looking for a LARGE octopus (or its legs at least) to put on the tall cabinet in the bathroom. Can't really see the top, but it would be fun to have those legs coming over the side. I found something on Etsy, but whoo boy, not for $800!

    Although I have had a home for many years, I have never been to a goodwill or general thrift store, but in looking at what you bought, I am more prone to the natural wood pieces. Also, I love the terracotta mask. I LOVE the map, and have been on the lookout for one, but they are hard to find. The ship would be a favorite of my brother, who actually builds ships in bottles as a hobby. Love the Asian style lamp, and table, although that is not my vibe, but it can change.
    The sewing machine hit home. When I was growing up, my mother had a singer sewing machine similar to that one, in black. It made me think of her and the many hours that she used it. Keep it please.

    What a bonanza! When shopping/thrifting one's mind is always fixed on the potential be it altered or not. Favored pieces: ginger jay lamp, the side Asian table, the 3 Italian prints do sing. Even though you'll cut down the table, the legs alone would be incredible pieces as pedestals or simply pieces of display art. If you ever decide to share households, oh the decisions you will have to make.

My favorite is a pen and ink tree, later I found a quarter sawn oak frame and I had some glass that fit. All told less than 10$.
    I think the shape of the drum shade would be good for that brass lamp. Maybe spray paint it black?

    hey, as a former tailor I unfortunately have to disappoint you with the machine. This type is not suitable for thicker leather.
    You're right that you can use more force to pierce thicker material with the needle, but the problem is the bottom feed. These don't grip and transport as well, especially if the material is thicker and stronger. These machines also have a problem forming a thread loop with thick leather or thicker Material in General. For leather you need a machine with an undertransport and a transporting feet. But for Other fabrics no Problem.
