  • THE LONE, WILD BIRD, for unison voices and organ, was composed in 1979 in Binghamton, New York. It is dedicated to the Rev. Robert Hammer. The text is by Henry R. McFadyen (1877-1964). The musical material of the piece makes use of only five pitches.
The lone, wild bird in lofty flight is still with thee, nor leaves thy sight.
And I am thine! I rest in thee. Great Spirit come, and rest in me.
The ends of earth are in thy hand, the sea’s dark deep and far off land.
And I am thine! I rest in thee. Great Spirit come, and rest in me.
    Henry R. McFadyen

Dan, I always find your compositions fascinating and captivating to listen and witness. I am in awe of another who treasures the organ to the extent in which I do, and someone who finely weaves the delicate characteristics of sound together into exquisite and masterful works. Thank you for sharing so many lovely works with the connoisseurs of the great crossroads of choral and organ art.
