    Can't we just get one good open world anime mmorpg with a style similar to what is shown in the video? It's always either little to none customization, instant-based, stupidly pay to win or anything like that. I don't care if its subscribtion based like ffxiv or a one-time pay thing. But just give us quality!

      LOL, I'm sure someone will consider it. I know it's something I would eventually like to touch on, but when it comes to game design I still have a very long way to go until I can make an anime inspired MMORPG. Also getting that specific art style down might be somewhat difficult for a while too lol.

      TheSocke bcause that's how to make ppl watch your video. if he simply put it on desc, so many ppl won't watch the full video bcause they can read it on desc xD just need mybe 5secs to read them all rather than watch the whole video

    • @blufrost71
      @blufrost71 6 років тому +10

      Dzulfiqar Bagas Tito it counts as a watch if they have to look in description since they have to click on the video just to look at description right?

    • @Boetman96
      @Boetman96 6 років тому +17

      The number of times a video is opened doesn't matter much anymore, for youtube it's all about the minutes watched

    • @bluecoral4918
      @bluecoral4918 6 років тому +18

      Dzulfiqar Bagas Tito It's just inconvenient. Why would viewers have to skim through the video after watching just to find the 2 second title card where the titles could have easily been put in the description?
      And come on now, people go to UA-cam to watch anyway, not purely to head to the description and read. That's what Google's for.

    I'm still amazed people insist on calling instanced, lobby based games "mmorpgs".. It just amazes me.
    The genre is being misused left and right by people who believe that as long as a lot of people play it, it has to be an mmorpg.
    The whole idea behind the genre term mmorpg is that the game has a vast, open world to explore with friends or strangers. A vast open world to do quests together with other players or on your own. A vast open world where thousands of players can run into each other regularly as they explore it, hence the full genre name being Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game.
    A game that requires an online connection, placing you inside a tiny, instanced map, is not an mmorpg.
    A game that allows you to play with a restricted amount of players in a party, in a tiny instanced map, is not an mmorpg, it's an online co-op game, or an online PVP game, though in most cases they're brawlers.
    Some state that LoL and DOTA2 are mmorpgs, but they're not. They're MOBAs. See, people don't even know what MOBA means. It means Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, but instead they call those games mmorpgs. Simply because A LOT OF PEOPLE PLAY THEM.
    Just take the first game in this video. It's an instanced based game. No roleplaying elements or features. It's just a hack'n'slash PVP game at its core with anime graphics sprinkled onto it, where they 'might' add some PVE maps later on. "PVE MAPS" ladies and gentlemen..
    Do people roleplay a lot in that game, or LoL or DOTA2 or any other games that are heavily instance based, and heavily PVP based, or well, purely PVP based? No, they don't. Because the games doesn't facilitate it, which is why it's wrong to call these games MMORPGS, because there are no RPG features in them, and they're not massive in scope and the fact that well, they have no vast open worlds to explore, just a tiny tiny map.
    Then there's the last two games. One is an isometric style arpg. The other is a 3rd Person arpg.
    Now, where exactly does massively multiplayer tie into these games? Nowhere. There are zero, 0, NO players around. You run around SOLO on tiny maps for the former game, and as for the latter, you can go into parties and fight mobs and bosses on, again, TINY maps. Player hubs? I've played so many of these games, and the biggest number you'll see as far as playercount goes in these hubs are about 20 if not less in each hub, which, there aren't many of to begin with.
    As i said above, the whole idea behind the genre term mmorpg is that the game has a vast open world to explore with or without friends, or strangers you may come across in your journey.
    Some developers are sadly labeling their games as MMORPGS to attract a bigger crowd, which is kind of a sleazeball move by the developers of said games, wrongfully applying said term to their games.
    You could say that the term is changing, but it doesn't. The genre does not change, and thus it is wrong to put the term on a game, in a genre that has nothing to do with MMO or RPG or both in the same sentence.
    I started playing online games when the first MUD appeared and playd MMORPGS ever since, yet the people who started misusing the term haven't even played for more than a few years. Kind of makes me sad to see the genre being misused to this degree, by developers, youtubers and twitchers alike.
    Don't get me wrong. I love anime styled ARPGs myself, but labeling some of these games as mmorpgs is wrong on every level.
    I've played true mmorpgs and the games i've seen in this video, bar Peria Chronicles are not mmorpgs in any sense of the term.
    True mmorpgs are games such as
    World of Warcraft
    The Elder Scrolls Online
    Star Wars The Old Republic
    Age of Conan
    Ultima Online
    Anarchy Online
    Wildstar
    Those are just a small list of actual mmorpgs.
    Someone might argue with me and tell me to F off, but honestly, how long have 'you' played mmorpgs? I am talking about games from the list i put up, and if you try to counter my arguments with the classic argument that 'the term has changed' i'll just counter that with this. The fact is. The genre does NOT change, and neither does the term, in all honesty, it just doesn't. It's the developers who misuse the term for games that have nothing to do with the genre whatsoever that 'changes' it. ;)

      I feel the same... a lot of upcoming mmorpg lists feature little to no actual mmorpgs and it's sad because I'm looking for new mmorpgs not just various types of online games

    • @Splashbang_OW
      @Splashbang_OW 6 років тому +32

      I don't care whether or not people read it. Ramblings? Stating facts = ramblings these days? Well, alrighty then!

    • @Splashbang_OW
      @Splashbang_OW 6 років тому +14

      @CheshireCat478: Yeah, i find it sad too. There are far too many generic F2P online games, posing as mmorpgs out there that doesn't really have a lot to do with the MMO aspect. They're just online co-op games with far too many restrictions such as micro-maps where the goal (like in Closers Online) is to go from point A to point B as fast as possible, with 'hubs' that have either no people in them or 5-10 at most if you're lucky. Those games are as linear as a can of sardines.. They're even more linear than a typical JRPG. But are they mmorpgs? No. Far from it.
      I have however, seen a few games that looks to be 'interesting', such as Ashes of Creation, Ascent Infinite Realm and a few more. There are videos of said games here on youtube as well which i highly recommend searching up. :)

    I know of 4 anime MMORPGs that are still running and 3 of which are still active. Aura Kingdom is still active with 2 servers and updates about every other month. Twin Saga is also getting bimonthly updates. While you hate Grand Fantasia, many people disagree. They launched a new server and will release a new class later this year. Eden Eternal is still running with occasional updates.

    I'll probably play anything KOG games makes because they're just that good, but I really wish that new game was open world. Facial customization is disappointing, but I'll live if its for a KOG game. Peria Chronicles looks extremely interesting, so I'll definitely be playing that though. I really hope anime-styled MMORPGs don't die though, they're my favorite kind. Western MMORPGS usually give more customization options, but I can't stand that much photo-realism in a *game*, I play for escapism, not realism.

    I jumped around anime MMOs quite a bit, when i was 12, I played wonderland online, 16 I played Eden eternal, 18 I played aura kingdom, after this I jumped around a lot, tree of savior, tera, final fantasy, Dragon Neat, blade and soul, some other older anime MMOs, some Japanese server MMO like soul worker, and other Xlegend Japanese server MMO, now 22 I like lost interest in MMOs, I still fully enjoy anime JRPG tho. I tell myself to just wait for NA Soul Worker now, but I honestly don't know if I wanna play. Its like anime MMO is something in the past that I used to love now.

    Notice how all of them are originating from Korea. It's quite interesting how Japan lacks the hi-fidelity anime MMO market and is instead being trumped by Korea. That said, Korea has always, to me, been known for their numerous MMOs so I guess that's to be expected.

    • @slayerbllade
      @slayerbllade 6 років тому +1

      Its probably bec theres big money in making mobile games compared to this genre. Idk about other countries but mobile games in japan has such a huge boom that everyone pretty much competes to make the best mobile game in the market.

    • @TheKalluto

      it's a culture thing rlly. FFXI and FFXIV (maybe Phantasy Star Online 2) are the only big MMOs over there. I've watched a documentary interviewing some staffs at Square Enix on their thoughts about MMORPG in Japan and they answered something along the line of "Japanese don't like much social interaction and keep to themselves "

      Well but Japan does have great mobile RPGs...not sure if you call those MMORPGs since tbh in this video some people commented NONE of these are MMORPGs per say :/ I mean Asobimo games are great imo, hooked to Toram Online and Alchemia Story. The former for the battle system and maps, the latter for the graphics and freedom of character customisation. Personal opinions here but well idk as a fan of RPGs and Japanese games, just doesn't sit well with me welp

  • @Steven-xf8mz

    idk how long mmorpg has been out there but for as long as i could remember, somewhere along the line it went from social interaction to massive never ending grinding, credit is due on animation tends to get better over the years and set of movement have increased dramatically.

    • @chrisfalcon_vt

      KoG has a lot of mismanagement. They kept Magic Wardrobe exclusive for Korean Elsword because the thing ruined economy and gave players power creeps because of the dismantling exploits.
      They killed herowarz, killed hero fighter's club...
      Kurtzpel, which will turn into Kurtzpay2win in short time and Kurtzflop once the hype dies.

    • @tukimicetk
      @tukimicetk 6 років тому +7

      KoG has done some good stuff in the past. But they fuck ups are too big.
      The biggest fuckup i've ever seen them do though was to be silent about Grand Chase for 1 or 2 weeks. Anounce updates would now be from 2 to 2 weeks to make bigger and better updates. Make a Mega update that was the "revival of Grand Chase" with tons of new cosmetics, new items, etc... and got everyone hyped and after 2 weeks anounce they were closing the game.
      Seriously when they seemed to be trying to revive the game that was slowly dying because the lack of updates and post game content they pulled a moneygrab stunt before anouncing the game would be closing. And after closing it not even caring about the game recieving a proper ending or just a text conclusion. Even when Level Up tried to buy it they refused by saying it would be a burden for them even tough Level Up Games said that they were still convicted they could try to pull it off at least

      Some people tell me KoG is the "best developer in MMO industry". Sure.
      Greatness, like how they killed Grand Chase despite the fact that everyone wanted this game to thrive to this day and players were promised a huge renewal of the game.
      Excellency, like how Elsword had become pay2win with everything requiring a +10 gear and a +11 weapon with water attributes, and they got a DFO cameo when the game needed to fix its issues.
      Competence, like how they let IP block butcher Herowarz and how they didn't gave a fuck to years of players demanding Fighter's club to be released.
      It's impressive on how people think that Kurtzpel will be their "next big hit", when anything that doesn't have Elesis on the roster is doomed to fail in months within release. They tried to give Aima, another "DFO Killer", a new gas when the game was on its last legs by letting Ronan Erudon from Grand Chase be a playable character, only to have it close down completely in JUST. ONE. YEAR.
      Let's be honest, the only reason for why KoG is still alive is because KoG constantly needs to cater to the thirsty people with boners and wet panties towards Elesis. Without their "Mascot", the company is doomed.

    • @tukimicetk
      @tukimicetk 6 років тому

      The only reason why elesis is the mascot is because it was the only one ported to Elsword. If they had ported Lire or Arme to Els then they would become the mascots. What made Elesis such a good pick and Ronan such a bad pick was that Elesis was the character that introduced GC to most people because they could only pick 3 characters. Ronan was an obtainable character and that wasn't so famous.
      The only character i know could rival Elesis would be Sieghart. People love him and if they added him onto Els or any other game Believe me people would spend so much money to get him. I feel like they could also obtain the same impact if they got amy, Mari or Dio into the game since those were also the Top elite of GC and somehow the mascots of the game.

    I'm am REALLY interested in checking out that Peria Chronicles game. I've always wanted an MMORPG (ANY MMORPG) that is kind of like the anime "Overlord" where players get to create their own dungeons. Like your Guild-Hall is your guilds' own personal dungeon complete with floor-bosses and loot! So the fact that Peria Chronicles gives creative control over the world of the game? The ability to create entire towns and missions? SCORE!!! Just... wish for maybe a better combat system.

    • @chrisfalcon_vt
      @chrisfalcon_vt 6 років тому +1

      Closing GC was the most pathetic thing they could do. Without Brazil, this game wouldn't last for a month.
      Fighter's Club was restricted to half an hour of fatigue in a Taiwan server nobody cared about, they thought they could pull the stunt of canon immigrance they did with Elesue in Elsword at Aima, only for the game to be cancelled shortly after and the profit and devotion Brazilian players had for Grand Chase was so much there was a "Long Live the Chase" movement.
      World of Warcraft, MapleStory, Ragnarok Online, Cabal. What those games have in common? They're REALLY old, suffered a lot of revamps and bad game design/business choices, yet still, none of the developers have ever *LIED* to the playerbase like KoG did.
      KoG must worship anyone who developed this game like a fucking god, because Grand Chase was the foundation to what they have become now, and Brazilian players built up their fucking empire by investing on it.
      TL;DR they turned their backs on their playerbase when they promised a lot of good things, and anyone who thinks they're good developers is either dumb or get paid by the GMs to praise them on social networks.

    • @chrisfalcon_vt
      @chrisfalcon_vt 6 років тому

      I wouldn't say I hate them as developers. The games they make are good, they have interesting concepts. As managers though, they're pure and absolute horseshit.
      What keeps me entangled to Elsword (Void, being the only good server, of course) is Sakra Devanam, I feel like a fucking god when I cancel all of her skills and abuse the bead system to whip some good trax ass in Sander SD. Kite, Shadow Weave and tiger art FTW. Other than her "Onii-chan, look at my panties" personality, I love her. Ah, and she's a better, cooler and tougher fox girl than Ahri or SCP-953, so badass she feasts upon the souls of her fallen enemies. In a game about a shota beating up monsters with the power of friendship and a big slab of rusty metal.
      Jin Kaiyen was my most used character in Grand Chase, his raw power and skills were phenomenal and he had a "burst" mode which enhanced his skills even more. Even when La Geas came and turned the meta into Freeze tempest spam, I loved using him more. Plus, his shadow step making for infinite combos.
      In hero fighter's club, there was "Remy", and her advancement class, "Sky Runner". She was PERFECT. Not only her promo costume had everything I like (Midriffs and Ponytails are my main fetishes), her style was based at kicking. She didn't rely much on superpowers aside from two drones that made her float a bit, and every single move of hers was like watching a dance. Hero Fighter's Club was the only reason I used Garena for a bit - I needed it to play the taiwanese version.
      Just search "Sky Runner" on youtube and you'll understand why I never see them in a positive light when it comes to keeping their games afloat. I know this company ever since I started playing Grand Chase in 2008, via Brazilian branch of Level Up games. They were fucking beasts back then, games always so fun to play, full of personality. I witnessed, with a bitter taste in my mouth, their descent to incompetence and greed.
      They kept promising us Fighter's Club ever since Grand Chase started getting popular, there was Elsword, there was Aima (An attempt of making a direct competitor to Dungeon Fighter, which bombed so bad), an unreleased Racing game, and now there's Kurtzpel (Not counting Herowarz because it was made by Astorm, though). And yet, no sign of what could be one of the BEST. ACTION. MMOs. EVER.
      And the Mobile Els doesn't look so bad either - I wouldn't mind playing it on my phone! In a positive light, they know how to implement good mechanics and make them be effective and flashy at the same time. They could dominate the market if management choices weren't so wrong.

    KOG is doing KurtzPel? That looks great and all, but doesn't anyone remember what they did to HeroWarz? HW was awesome imo but they seriously under-developed it in comparison to the KR version when launch came. Let's not forget they also shut it down less than a year after launch and said it was just a "temporary shut down" and they "hoped to see us when it comes back" and yet they take away the HW site and leave all of us to wonder and hope it may return. That in mind, I'm reluctant to join the hype train for KurtzPel. Not to say Elsword isn't a fun game though, don't get me wrong.

    As much as I like your videos (both of you, Stix/Wiggy) I have a couple of issues. And both deal with vocal delivery of your scripts. IMO you should try to eliminate phrasing like 'I don't know' and the long pauses... *Verbal ellipsis*. I get that it's for dramatics, but to me it sounds off and used far too often in your vids. (Just like your dramatic sighs)
    To me, it takes away credibility of what you're saying, at least the 'I don't knows' do. The sighs and pauses can be good tools but you employ them too often.

    Peria Chronicles sounds really cool, but the player created content I expect to be handled closer to how Star Trek Online handles their player created content, than how it seems represented here (as the mainstay of the game). My hope is that the tools that Peria gives us are better than STO gives the players. Ideally having direct control over their own IP will translate better to giving players control, than having a licence IP that the IP owner's always have their hand in the game development (which they have no experience in).

      You're probably mistaking copyright issues for censorship/localization. All the cosmetics that are taken from other works are part of collaborations. Almost all of the collaborations feature other SEGA titles (SEGA made PSO2, too; I'm pretty sure they won't sue themselves)
      On the other hand, the game is rated TEEN in Japan. If they brought it to the west, they'd have to either change it to MATURE or to deprive us of all the skimpy outfits, like GIFT WRAPPINGS (for women, yes), SOAP BUBBLES(It's a $50 reward outfit and I have it), sexy bikini, succubus and like half the female underwear.
      Long story short, there are too many butt-hurt feminists outside of Asia and too many political cowards that please them to avoid any traffic jam inducing protests.

    I highly recommend Soul Worker! Gameplay and graphics are just wonderful!! I’ve been stuck on it and I honestly just wanna keep going. Although tthe level cap is currently 55, they’re going to be updating soon and ahhh the class advancements after 55 look so fun!!! I currently main two characters, which are Stella(the little lolli looking girl) and Haru(the taller girl with starting short hair with a sword). Stella is the most difficult and technical character to play in the game so far, as Haru is the easiest and simplest. However, I have fun with both, which is why they’re my mains. I just made a third character, which is another Haru so I can farm the first two areas.
    The gameplay is swift and smooth. It isn’t slow and it doesn’t take 5ever to kill mobs.
    Personally, I don’t like overwhelming graphics when it comes to MMOs but SoulWorker is like a perfect balance for me.
    The leveling gets way more faster and easier with a party. The more, the merrier! Invite friends or even random people standing around that’s around your level and have them grind with you or help them grind if they have to. Personally, leveling doesn’t take tooo long to the point where I just get bored of it. I actually don’t really care for MMOs and games like this one and maplestory, lineage II, TERA, but SoulWorker caught me!

    I like how he compared two different games to Mabinogi that are nothing like Mabinogi in any way. Just because it has anime visuals doesn't mean it's like Mabinogi lol.

      Bruh, It was so dead, Mabinogi had such a unique combat system.
      despite how outdated mabi is, I loved it from beta to g13. everything afterwards was too cringe.

    I wouldn't mind the aesthetic of a couple of these paired with a more traditional MMO open world kind of game. That's the kind of game I'm looking for when I read "anime MMORPG." Maybe the definition has become fluid over the years but it feels like a bit of a misnomer in this context.

    I don't get why the customization is so limited in these games, being able to recreate your favorite anime characters would be a huge draw in my opinion. I'd find it pretty amazing to come across player characters in-game and recognize some of them from their respective series.

    I'm not sure if it's any good or not, but Closers is also well on it's way to a western release. Had (maybe still has) a closed beta going on, has a website as well as a steam page. Honestly it'll probably release before Soul Worker as well.

    Most annyoing problem with todays Good looking *MMORPGs* is: that almost every game contains an *unfair Balanced Item Shop...*
    ofc its *Free to Play* but without to pay 100's of Dollars there is almost no way to proceed further
    Games which allows you to pay or to play for free *(Grind the dungeons for the Gear)* are rare!

    Honestly the best hairstyle customization (excluding color) I've found is by far the one in Toram Online. Other than that BDO takes first prize. I really fail to see why/how other development teams seem to not take any notice and just dish out extremely limited/basic character customization...

    kurtz Pel is a pretty improved version of elsword, the basic class are the same and the abilities are the same too, i was pretty suprised when i watch the trailer and the archer was shooting rena´s Phoenix shoot. Also have KOG actually give a date for the release?

    Soulworker gameplay is indeed top tier. All of these games but the isometric one are worth playing, but it's always the same, PvP oriented. I don't like PvP at all, it always isolates users who want to play at their pace, doing what they want in a free world. Someday devs will understand it and will make 2 modes once you create a new character, the PvP and the non PvP. In the non PvP you will be able to play freely and anybody will be unable to target you for anything that could cause damage.

    I think if the world updated its engines and software to create games, (aka: 2018 software engines and such) and started developing Anime MMORPGs inspired by popular anime TV shows and series, then the market for anime MMORPGs would most likely skyrocket with there being so many it would be impossible to choose. But obtaining the rights to even do such a thing is the downside of my theory; and then getting the story correct and whatnot based off the manga or show would also be a big deal. But I could definitely see anime MMORPGs inspired by our most popular anime we watch today.

    first game looks pretty nice and with a decent/good magic system.
    if it comes to eu I am definitely going to try it ^^ please list the games shown in description pref with the link to official site/stuff.
    personally, i don't play any mmorpg these days as there is not a single one out worth my time to play; mmo's (especially the mmorpg's) is little more than a graphical interface to milk addicts with underhanded, disgusting and abusive/"mentally damaging" tactics right now and the design suffers so much from it that nothing out is remotely worth it.
    next mmorpg I am looking forward to is the ncsoft project TL which is ONLY because its ncsoft which has generally been "reasonable" with their abuse of their costumers (compared to the rest of the market; as compared to good morale/decent humans their buisness models are still built in a disgusting way which are 100% reliant on abusing and creating addicts with microtransactions as their core income), but it depends on how it is built.
    if its build around milking costumers with microtransaction bs I am not touching it either; I want a P2P WITHOUT any form of microtransactions so i know that the design is focused on giving me long term enjoyability and continued support and fix issues in the game (as if they don't they will lose their income), while being able to avoid the worst parts of the plague/toxic community which is the F2P leeching playerbase, as well as being able to enjoy my mmorpg experience at a reasonable sum of 20-30ish € a month and being in a fair playingfield.

    Kurtzpel had so much potential but then he said it wasn't open world 😭😭😭😭. Take kurtzspell but add in elder scrolls online advanced and diverse world and you have a great game. (Of course for that to work we would need a lot of ability tweaking and a large progression system and I understand it would be incredibly difficult to do)

    I used to play Elsword a little, and I'm curious as to what kind of MMORPG has good customization and PvP combat. The first game, KurtzPel, looks interesting, and I'm curious to ask a few questions: 1) Is there an English version? 2) Is it free? & 3) How would I download it?

    • @alexandralamond347
      @alexandralamond347 6 років тому

      Yea and it is pretty much the exactly same game as Elsword even tho itz supposed to be a GC sequel .. The game is pretty good i guess .. itz fun for the most part i guess .. it looks really good .. skills sadly lack the feeling of being anything but nice colors they dont feel like they have much impact like in elsword sadly .. But sadly the game is to much Elsword for me .. Dont get me wrong Elsword was and is till today one of the best sidescroller MMORPG and Even fighting games .. Sadly KoG Knows how to bring P2W to a totally new Level .. So u either Pay 69 Bizzillion Dollar per month .. Or u grind for 4 years and reach about 35% of what P2W players get in 1 Week .. Sounds like a bad joke ? Yea it does .. is sadly not a joke doe ..And dont forget please .. in those 4 years of farming to catch up with 35% progress P2W players did in 1 week they will release 18x as much content as u had till then ... so ur never able to catch up with P2W players .. Which is a huge problem because the game just like Elsword is Entirely PvP focused in the End game .. All of dis btw is if u play ~ 8 hours a day c: If u dont even have the time to no life dis game just go play Soulworker .. Even tho Soulworker will be 5x as quick dead in EU/NA then it took for the Japanese server lel .. No PvP .. No Chance
      Sry for the bad english doe Hope dat gives u a tiny bit of Info for Kurtzpel c:

      Thanks. I guess I'd be better off playing a different game. However, is it a free download - but pay to win, or do you get a free download and pay to unlock further content? I just want a good game of this genre to play, even if I return to Elsword. What I don't like is how Elsword's customization is very little without paying, but that's how far I played.

    Well Dragon Nest today is steadily reviving itself. For having played it for 4 years and witnessed firsthand the plummit of players these past years. I too would've stopped playing if it weren't for the new updates and lvl cap features and now, recently this december the numbers of new players and old ones that went back to the game just went "BOOM"!

    Not gonna lie. I like that Kurtzpel is gonna not be open world. Most Open world MMOs just slap the "Stand in this one area and kill like 47384 pigs..." or something along those lines. Then they go on to making excruciatingly massive maps and make it so that if you want mounts to traverse slightly faster than just running, you have to pay $$$ for them...
