Much of the colors seem to be off. The trees and clouds look great but the grass covered and barren ground look garish. I've seen videos of other areas, like the Grand Canyon, which look like they are colored correctly. I have to assume this area is mostly generic and I can only hope it gets better in the release version and in any updates afterwards.
Yeah as far as i know this alpha is stripped of certain things like 3D grass and ai placed rocks and bushes which will be there in the final release, however its also important to manage expectations and not buy in the hype that everythign will look great. I think these rounded mountains and blurry flat textures will mainly stay the same, I dont understand why they havent trained an AI to upscale low res textures and geometry which should be easy to generate the training data for... maybe that will happen in the future i hope so.
A cautionary tale for current and prospective Meta Quest VR headset owners (for sim'ing or gaming): I'm on day 7 of Meta holding my Quest headsets hostage. I've been using Oculus/Quest devices from the day they started making them (10 years ago?), and have not been required to give my date of birth to Meta in all this time. But they recently demanded my DOB under threat of disabling my Quests, and they made good on that threat 7 days ago. Meta can metaphorically brick your headsets, any time they want, and for any reason they want, and you will have no defense against it. Conclusion: Think carefully before you BUY anything from Meta; The thing you BUY will not be yours.
