How is stump grinding so expensive you don't even have to do any work all you do is stand there with a machine the machine does all the work stump grinding should be like $200 a stump
Ever had to replace teeth on a stump rig, how about running the head into a underground power line or water line. Or have to grind a 40×40 ft area to get all the surface roots. A giant ass stump can take a few hours to properly grind and how deep the customer wants plays into cost. Further more most customers want the excess grounds hauled away and the grind are left level. A big ass 40-50 inch diameter stump will fill up a f550 dump truck with leftover grounds.
@@hawkmusic6392 Not to mention a commercial type stump grinder is going to cost well over $20k just for entry commercial. I bought a Carlton Ox in 1999 for $15.5k
$8k isn’t that bad for two large trees. Tree workers risk their lives to climb, trim and remove your trees. Pay them what they ask or find a new company, but I doubt a ‘professional, quality’ company would charge less then that.
Only 8,000? You ever wonder if the lady is the problem? That’s not that much to risk your life on a job. What’s your life worth? Mines worth more than 8,000
How big the trees were? How complicated was to remove them? Front yard? Backyard? That's the main question. That's a fair bid for a big tree complex tree. Heavy equipment is expensive and high quality workers deserve good pay as well.
What a lot of💩 could easily be a legitimate job. Home owners agreed to job going ahead and quite possibly was a cash price. Absolutely no context to this story. If I was tree company I would be suing the media for slander
This video is garbage. Arborists are professionals just like a dentist, plumber, doctor, or lawyer. The only difference is people expect to lowball the hell out of tree care professionals, who have lives, families, and bills to pay just like you and I. It’s bogus that a plumber or mechanic charges astronomical hourly rates, don’t end up on the news, when arborists typically work on fixed by the job rate end up on the news with a bunch of bad publicity. This is the type of stuff that degrades the arboriculture industry and drives down prices and wages.
As someone who owns their own tree service. It's not hard to get three prices in an industry where estimates are free. And, one giant can cost over that depending on variable factors.
$8000 for 2 trees doesn’t seem crazy. I have a single elm in my backyard and have gotten estimates from $8000-$15000. If the tree is in a weird spot or there are power lines near by it can be a difficult job.
That last guy is so wrong. Just because a tree looks healthy doesn't mean it shouldn't be cut down. A lot of the time people let the smaller trees that aren't a big deal now grow until they become a big deal. Then they wonder why the price is a big deal as well.
The lady could have went with someone else. I have charged 4g for one tree, yesterday i charged $1,300 to put 2 large dead beech trees about 90ft tall on the ground with no cleanup or anything. This news channel should be ashamed
Uhhh hey shoddy journalists…… how large were the trees? Were they overhanging the house? Were grannys pool and garden below the trees? Were the stumps 10 feet across? Real easy to make a hit piece without the specifics. I own a tree service, this price is not outrageous. Terrible journalism.
Yeah, 20 years ago, when my business was quite small, I calculated that given the amount of work days in a year that can be counted upon....aside from holidays, injury days, weather days....I would need to make $600 a day, just to cover my costs. That's ACTUAL overhead, not including payroll! That's overhead, including insurances and licensing, storage space costs, fuel, maintenance/repairs, consumables (saw chain, files, ropes, etc.)....not including my own living expenses or those of employees. In other words, lunch and drinks are not overhead, 😂. As payroll is officially supposedly "paying for itself", that's not overhead either. So that's needing to do $600 a day, just to start trying to pay my rent, and personal expenses...and I was a very small company. Imagine guys that I work with, who have 6 or 8 times the expenses I had.....
Weve been in business for years , and done many $10,000 jobs ,that company does seem a bit shady , however, people dont know the real part when it comes to our tree business, when we show up, we bring our experience, $500k worth of equipment, and insurance, most of all , our hard worked labor , we charge for what we know what to do , especially with everything gone up
Lol how much do you charge to sit and report bullshit in a air conditioned room? Tree work is no joke. Idk why they wouldn’t take a check but hey it’s their business
Tree work requires fearless talented hard working men. Climbing and rigging certain trees down is very hard in every way. So dangerous, you saw your rope you fall. You judge the physics wrong and a log on a rope crushes you or a crane topples over. As a climber I can say that I am not an educated man but I have met few who can do this work even after training. Many ppl I know have been crushed, killed, and air lifted from the site. Tree work is a team effort multiple men working through winter snow and summer sun. Season after season. Sweating so much your eyes are blurry until you go to bed. This is a coordinated job with lots of experience and skills required. Heavy machinery, your home on the line men's lives litterly on a line. Insurance power lines. Cranes cdl trucks. License for the city for the cranes for the bucket trucks. I wish that every man who looks down on this work was instantly telaported 90 ft up and had to negative rig a top out.
Seems reasonable price, maybe on the higher side but difficult to say. There are so ma y factors that go into pricing these types of jobs (tree type, location, equipment, man hours, etc). The "took her to the bank to get cash" was very fishy, they are trying to avoid taxes while charging market prices. Trying to have their cake and eat it too.
She could've taken anyone else's bid...but in her defense. They should've told her they wouldn't accept personal checks. Some people just don't understand that $8,000 isn't acceptable from a personal account.
Just did a $9,000 removal in 4.5 hours and $11,000 in 7 hours no crane and no skid. Customers were happy. What kind of person agrees to pay a price and then complains about it? And then people give their own dumb opinion when they don’t do tree work on a daily basis.
@Justin Archuleta, HI Justin. Can you describe the trees roughly in height, trunk diameter and the type of trees they were if you don't mind? Just a reference for myself... Thanks man, have a good one!
I had a climber from California who did big trees he saw a 30k removal done a friend also sold one at a top company in San Fran for $30k one tree they completed 5-6 hours
People just do not understand what it takes to run a business. They want an insured company but don't want to pay the price. Here is something to look at before you start bashing a company. Factor in the cost of workers comp, liability, man hours, fuel , dumping fees ,wear and tear on machinery. If you don't like the price then don't hire them.
We have a tree service ourselves in great standing. On occasion customers pay in cash. We head to the bank and deposit it with the customers name and address attached to the cash deposit, then set aside the money out of it for the taxes on that money that need to be paid when filing too. Nothing wrong with this. Now if payment is demanded in a more aggressive manner then that is not right, and someone needs to have a more smooth collecting system in place, then so be it. But tree work is hard hard work. In todays day and age, prices are going up. I see nothing wrong with this common practice. If you have any concerns I would check on insurance and make sure you get a copy directly from the insurance company proving they carry it. Look closely at it. I have ran into an instance one time when someone shared his insurance with me and had guys show up on the jobsite a sub and he did not actually have workmens comp insurance. My question is when the guy falls off the roof and breaks his back if it were to happen, who will be taking care of who here. These questions are real and highly important. I also would make sure a firm contract is in place and signed before starting the work.
I work for Bartlett Tree Experts. Never pay money before a job is done to a small tree company... Never ever do it.... You are likely screwing yourself... But.... This seems about right. This was not a bad deal. People don't understand how much money goes into this...
I own a small tree service it doesn't matter if ur a big tree service or small tree service the point is scumbags are scumbags big and small and ruin it for honest companies like mine and yours
It's a free market--if she didn't like the quote price or hourly rate, she could hire someone else, attempt to do dangerously do it herself, or skip it. Considering that a new chipper is about $70,000, a bucket truck is $150,000 and insurance, including worker's comp is astronomically expensive (along with a real risk of death or paralysis ) most legit companies have to charge at least $100 per man hour. 8 grand would only be 80 man hours. A five man crew would reach that time within two days. The only fishy part is their insistence to be paid cash--they might have simply distrusted the womans check, but most likely they were trying to operate under the table illegally. People shouldn't complain when that is the price they agreed on.
That's how we get paid front end price ....and back end based on contractual agreement! Now over charging ...thats something between them and their customer...she could have said no it's to much!
Depending on size, location, safety factors and other variables, $8,000 for, two, trees is not necessarily out of line. Most people don’t understand the time, risk, equipment and skill that goes into a large tree removal
This is a bullshit post a boom truck is over 100 grand a large saw is around 3 grand labour and insurance fule and upkeep you don't like the price go look for some weekend warriors that may or may not drop the tree on your home and take off and leave you with a potentially wrote off house or worse some one hurt on your property

No one would take the job , we were the 7th company they called all previous 6 said no , was in the backyard overhanging the power lines to the house , the road the house was on , and the power lines across the street , yes ALOT of trees are that bad , i always recommend getting a couple quotes use Angie (formerly Angie's list it's legit, you pay to be on home advisor they are just a call forwarding service ) ,also if they smell like alcohol or pot when they show up to give a job estimate they will be drunk and high when working over your house , sometimes good help costs more .
Please somebody help me I live in Omaha The tree fell on my roof by and I call the tree service finally they charged my insurance for about ?$19000 , as you know our home insurance will increase monthly right ?is it normal? Or I got scam , the tree service said that it was like an emergency so they charge more . The price increase said to emergency
But its just a tree?!? 🤷♂️🤦♂️ (everyone around says) As an arborist I can tell you that it is not easy to bring down 2 huge trees safely otherwise you wouldn't need to hire a crew to do it.
1 big tree over lots of stuff, maybe bad terrain can go 10grand, maybe more depending on area. 8grand for 2 isn't all that much and the news doesn't know any tree facts of condition/problems and risk. They are slandering without knowing anything really. Lady might have not intended to pay hence the me too poverty story. A tree svc can have well over a million in equipment with 200grand in ins costs per yr easily

Yea people ...tree stumps are usually NOT. Included when giving an estimate to cut down trees. Stumps are a BATTLE in there own right . In other words tree stumps are a BIT ( H to remove . All you have to do is ask . Does this price include the stumps . Or is that an additional fee. Just ask for a price with stump removal. And without.. stump removal is t just removing a stump .. it also usually involves removal all the big roots in the immediate area. New soil brought in and new sod put down where the tree was . So there is some nuance to all of this .. best thing is just ask as many questions as you can think of . And if any tree service has a problem with you asking questions. That is your first red flag . Anymore than 1 red flag . Do not hire that tree service . The average person does not own a tree service nor work for one. So there are many questions that may need to be addressed before you move forward with whatever tree service you may be getting. Word of mouth is your best bet.. if know someone that had a good experience with a tree service and they come recommended that is usually your best bet . Don't judge a book by the cover some people think tree service that has a 10 man crew . And all kinds of fancy equipment is the best choice. That is not always true. Sometimes your best choice is 2 guys in a truck . Always make sure they have proper insurance. So if they get hurt it's not on you .
Depends on the trees ,what's under them ,how long of drag for brush ,septic systems ,lawn sprinklers ,all kind of factors ,but when you call a tree service that brings 1million in equipment and 6 guys it's not going to be cheap ,fast yes cheap no
Haha yeah but would you be like oh they want 8grand to install a furnace?!?!? Or oh that's unfair the realtor wants 8grand to purchase a house?!?! Or 8grand to repair a vehicle or 8 grand to put a new roof on your house. Give.me.a.break

I wouldn't take a check from somebody these days. Maybe a certified cashier check from a bank, but cash would be preferable. I just spent the weekend taking down a huge walnut in my back yard. 60÷ ft tall and about 40" base. Huge to me at least. Had a buddy that had access to a 100ft bucket truck and we both have good quality saws that were capable. Spent 150$ in just fuel for the truck! I'd bet it would of been 3-4k minimum to have someone do it. No damage, other than a bar and chain! I wouldn't recommend it to just anybody. If ya don't like a price, call someone else.

Normal proce, f rating from homeowner itself. Company should sue channel for big bucks as they did damage to company.
I would love to see that newscaster guy remove both of those trees.
That’s a normal price. What’s up with the media
people don't realize that the insurance is outrageous. I pay 1000 toward general liability plus 30 cent on every doller for workers comp. so if I hire 2 guys at 15 an HR. that 60 frand a year in payroll. plus I pay 3 grand more for
I closed my insurance on my tree business in 2019, but for a few years prior to that, I was paying a total of almost $47,000 a year between all the various insurances. That was with the absolute minimum for worker's comp being $8,600....then there's the business insurance, the inland marine, the vehicular, the theft....🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
8k is not high at all. Do you understand that we risk our lives every day to do this job. I won't get in a tree for anything less than 3k some trees can go 10k and up just for one... Driving to the bank ya that's wrong but understand the work is not cheap...
Remove the tree yourself then. Good luck
I am NOT taking a 8g check either. Cash or Credit period. With plenty of paper work. To insure you cant despute it.
Only 8,000? You ever wonder if the lady is the problem? That’s not that much to risk your life on a job. What’s your life worth? Mines worth more than 8,000
She got a quote she agreed pay the hard working man risking their lifes to cut the trees. Wow makes no since 🤦🏻♂️
How big the trees were? How complicated was to remove them? Front yard? Backyard? That's the main question. That's a fair bid for a big tree complex tree. Heavy equipment is expensive and high quality workers deserve good pay as well.
8k sounds good . Those trees are huge
What a lot of💩 could easily be a legitimate job. Home owners agreed to job going ahead and quite possibly was a cash price. Absolutely no context to this story. If I was tree company I would be suing the media for slander
You really have to be a part of the industry and/or business to know how expensive and difficult it really can be to fell a massive tree
I’ve quoted many tree jobs in that price range. That price range is not that unrealistic. Stump grinding as well. 🇨🇦🇺🇸
That was a reasonable price and stump grinding is always extra
The lady could have went with someone else. I have charged 4g for one tree, yesterday i charged $1,300 to put 2 large dead beech trees about 90ft tall on the ground with no cleanup or anything. This news channel should be ashamed
Uhhh hey shoddy journalists…… how large were the trees? Were they overhanging the house? Were grannys pool and garden below the trees? Were the stumps 10 feet across? Real easy to make a hit piece without the specifics. I own a tree service, this price is not outrageous. Terrible journalism.
8 k is fair. try paying 100 k a month in overhead without charging 8 k a day!
you will go bankrupt.
Weve been in business for years , and done many $10,000 jobs ,that company does seem
a bit shady , however, people dont know the real part when it comes to our tree business, when we show up, we bring our experience, $500k worth of equipment, and insurance, most of all , our hard worked labor , we charge for what we know what to do , especially with everything gone up
Lol how much do you charge to sit and report bullshit in a air conditioned room?
The cost of insurance....
Seems to be a fair price.
Where do you work? I need to move there
@@bman6065 Austin, Tx
@Justin Archuleta, HI Justin. Can you describe the trees roughly in height, trunk diameter and the type of trees they were if you don't mind? Just a reference for myself... Thanks man, have a good one!
60’ trees
I had a climber from California who did big trees he saw a 30k removal done a friend also sold one at a top company in San Fran for $30k one tree they completed 5-6 hours
People just do not understand what it takes to run a business. They want an insured company but don't want to pay the price. Here is something to look at before you start bashing a company. Factor in the cost of workers comp, liability, man hours, fuel , dumping fees ,wear and tear on machinery. If you don't like the price then don't hire them.
Eh seems to me the news report is omitting details.
Why did she agree to the price ?
That's pretty normal for 2 large trees....... Bucket trucks & insurance are not cheap!
thats not out of line 8000.00 for 2 trees lots of work huge trees cost lots of money to remove
This is a bullishit news company she didnt have to agree to the price and everything else you claim is opinion
Maybe the police and the news and the family can go Borrow $500,000 and take her next 2 down for Free!!!!!!! WTF do people want?
I seriously would pay money to see a news anchor, any news anchor try to do our job.
Tonight at 11.....Breaking news......News anchor cuts tree on house costing the homeowner $125,000.
Now over charging ...thats something between them and their customer...she could have said no it's to much!
didn't they get an estimate
Depending on size, location, safety factors and other variables, $8,000 for, two, trees is not necessarily out of line. Most people don’t understand the time, risk, equipment and skill that goes into a large tree removal
This is a bullshit post a boom truck is over 100 grand a large saw is around 3 grand labour and insurance fule and upkeep you don't like the price go look for some weekend warriors that may or may not drop the tree on your home and take off and leave you with a potentially wrote off house or worse some one hurt on your property
I have been an arborist since 2011 , some trees are that bad did a red oak that took us 5 days , it was 8,000 .
Please somebody help me
I live in Omaha
The tree fell on my roof by and I call the tree service finally they charged my insurance for about ?$19000 , as you know our home insurance will increase monthly right ?is it normal? Or I got scam , the tree service said that it was like an emergency so they charge more . The price increase said to emergency
But its just a tree?!? 🤷♂️🤦♂️ (everyone around says) As an arborist I can tell you that it is not easy to bring down 2 huge trees safely otherwise you wouldn't need to hire a crew to do it.
This is stupid do they think all that equipment was free? How does this make the news?
1 big tree over lots of stuff, maybe bad terrain can go 10grand, maybe more depending on area. 8grand for 2 isn't all that much and the news doesn't know any tree facts of condition/problems and risk. They are slandering without knowing anything really. Lady might have not intended to pay hence the me too poverty story. A tree svc can have well over a million in equipment with 200grand in ins costs per yr easily
plp really dont understand what we do to get these trees down there's alot of experience involved with it lots of knowledge!! if you want a professional to remove it your gonna pay alot!!! us tree guys deserve it!! it's very dangerous as well. although we do make it look easy but there's alot of years involved for us to make it look easy. I love doing tree work always something different and always a challenge
I can’t believe this media hit piece on a private company. She didn’t have to accept the bid, and $8,000 could be quite reasonable depending on the trees and other circumstances.
She got a good deal
I was confused the whole time I was watching this like those trees looked big and it wasn't a good distance from the house. On top of that It was two trees. I think she expected to get them cut down for a few hundred a piece. Like Yu making more at your desk job than the owner of the landscaping company at those prices
Let the home owner cut the tree her self of course i would of charge more specifically if you're working over roofs etc,,
I don't think the price was the issue it was the collection method.
Depends on the trees ,what's under them ,how long of drag for brush ,septic systems ,lawn sprinklers ,all kind of factors ,but when you call a tree service that brings 1million in equipment and 6 guys it's not going to be cheap ,fast yes cheap no
I don't see a problem .
Haha yeah but would you be like oh they want 8grand to install a furnace?!?!? Or oh that's unfair the realtor wants 8grand to purchase a house?!?! Or 8grand to repair a vehicle or 8 grand to put a new roof on your house. Give.me.a.break
Really that's not even that big I've been apart of tree jobs for 30grand
Tree workers work 10 times faster than every other profession,
We do thirty days of work in one day compared to construction,
Tree work is expensive, no getting around it. Why is it that everyone is a tree expert but no one questions an electrician or a mason when they hand you the bill?
it's up to the customer
It's a free market.... if you don't like the price don't hire them...
the police were suprised that they made less. they dont charge per hour but per tree
She didn't get a price quote up front? Big mistake.
For those tree she get good price
Sounds about right for my neck of the woods.
8k is not bad for 2 large trees. And she accepted that now she salty she has to pay
That price may have ben perfectly legitimate, i don't know without being there.
What’s wrong with that price
Absolutely no way of knowing, since we didn't see the actual job in this video!!!
$4,000/tree could be a very fair price for may trees, or a substantial RIP-OFF for many others.....impossible to know here.
What's so surprising? It's tree work. It's expensive because it's dangerous and costly.
I’ve billed $8000+ for one tree. Tree work is expensive especially when climbing the tree is necessary. You are paying for the danger to bodies that is involved.
