Yeah, especially when they substituted Johnny for Bobby. Bobby and Johny have different tones, energies and deliveries. Even in the younger days, Johnny's voice added a matured sound because of his gospel like tone. Where Bobby gave me the group more of that playful pop sound.
It's been one of my favorites since it came out. It's always in all of my playlists. The extended version with Johnny doing the runs all through the song. DAMN!!. 💪🏾💪🏾 But Man, the song Boys To Men will always be right next to Can You Stand The Rain. It just hit me right in my heart as soon as I heard it. Coming out of the ghetto of Washington D.C. as a young man in the late 1980's. That song spoke to me.
I always felt Johnny was highly under rated. Nonetheless, as much as I love NE, if it was not for JG being added, I do not think they would have came back as strong in 1988 with the Heartbreak Album. NE Forever!
Johhny has paid the debt that NE had and he also didnt want to be front man. He only wants to help the guys at the moment that they had an interview with him.
@ I recalled in 1988 or 1989, the biggest criticism was he couldn’t dance. Well, not as great as the original members. He was not know for dancing. He was and still is a pure vocalist. Nonetheless, JG deserves his flowers. He may not be the heart of NE. He brought blood to a group that almost died out. When he came, the group got a 2nd life.
Mr. Johnny Gil was a great addition to NE. I hope this group get the Kennedy Life Time Achievement award and The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame award. They deserve this acknowledgment.😅😊
It's bittersweet, Sweet because I'm so happy that I grew up during a time when music was real. Bitter because this generation will never know what true music is ✌️👍💯😊
Wow! Shout out to my homeboy, Johnny Gill. My sister-in-law taught him in junior high school at Rabaut Junior High in NW Washington D.C. She said he had that astonishing voice even back then. A man's voice in a young man's body. He would blow folks away. Even now, his range is phenomenal. ❤❤❤
This group.....my daughter talked me into getting her tickets in 1986 at the James L. Knight Center in Miami. Been a huge fan ever since. We have loved every album since Mr. Telephone Man. If my baby was still here, we would be in the front row in Vegas. I still follow them. Such beautiful voices. I'm so proud of them for coming together and making that good Vegas money. Stay strong fellas!!!!!
Certified classic! Great song! Great production! Ralph is a great entertainer, and is one of the funniest people I've ever been around! Tears in your eyes funny!
So glad these guys are still performing together and still killing it! I feel like I grew up with them and it sure is nice to know they are still doing it old school style with the coordinated moves and all! Since we’re approximately the same age, I was thinking if I was in there with them that the move where they touch the floor (lmao) would look a lot different! Might take me the rest of the song to straighten back up. 😂
@@churchillroa3664 I don't need to go off what Micheal has said. I have heard Ronnie sing several times. I just watched a video of him singing a duet with his wife Shamari and he sounded bad, as usual. Plus, Micheal is going to say Ronnie can sing, because he can't sing either. They both are the least talented in NE when it comes to singing.
I bought Johnny Gill's first album, he's always been in my radar! As a 'seasoned' music fan, my kids were the ones playing New Edition (we live in Boston and the original Candy Girl was our neighbor)...me, not so much.
Those at this Resdiency your very blessed your looking at the last of the Orginal boy band. Love how they stll do all the moves and still going strong. I hope Ralph finds comfort and closure with this. I know he had high hopes of being a solo artist promises were made etc maybe God has had other plans. You have your classic single thats timeless you have your brotherhood and NE still going making money and making people happy.
I don't care what anyone says...NE were the Temptations of the 80's and 90's!!
Facts!!! The NE HEARTBREAK TOUR WAS 🔥🔥🔥🔥
You telling the truth fam
Yes!!! I love them so much!!! Bobby Brown is my ❤
Yeah, especially when they substituted Johnny for Bobby. Bobby and Johny have different tones, energies and deliveries. Even in the younger days, Johnny's voice added a matured sound because of his gospel like tone. Where Bobby gave me the group more of that playful pop sound.
Johnny took New Edition to a completely different level.
Agree. His voice is touching me to the core 😢
He definitely did do that!
Having Jam & Lewis producing them was the cherry on top!!🍒
He really took them from boys to men.
It's Johnnie's Gospel upbringing he got started here in the DMV. Thank You 😊
Can You Stand Rain...might be the best song ever written & recorded for my generation!
It's been one of my favorites since it came out. It's always in all of my playlists.

That is my best song of New Edition!
I love Not my Kind if Girl. But JG made them when they came back
@jeaninejefferson3131 That's a nice one. I will always say JG is who they needed so they could mature from the bubble gum pop they had been doing.
Johnny has had that voice since a teenager! I saw him in concert last year! ❤

@@ypmm53 and now the group is complete.
@ NE for life!!
Thats a fact
Johnny Gill in my book is seated at the table with the greats!!
Mr. Johnny Gil was a great addition to NE. I hope this group get the Kennedy Life Time Achievement award and The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame award. They deserve this acknowledgment.😅😊
I do as well !! They aren’t even in my generation yet I absolutely love them and they deserve the best!!!
CAN YOU STAND THE RAIN! Beautiful lyrics!!
It's bittersweet, Sweet because I'm so happy that I grew up during a time when music was real. Bitter because this generation will never know what true music is ✌️👍💯😊
