He revisits the site on Dartmoor's Devonport Leat where the Beacon had been submerged for over a week in chilly water and yet served and works as if it were new. With Nearly four decades of wild camping experience, Shamus shares his skills and knowledge on Dartmoor National Park, where he continues to live and work.

Wow nice vid, you've inspired me to get back out there! I just went wild camping for the first time, it was a disaster lol
Excellent. give it a go, wild camping should be enjoyable, find somewhere to enjoy a night out 😊
This absolutely sold the beacon to me!
Poor Petra....she needs more sossiage payment.
Haha, well done, Steve 👍
Dimsey, love it....haven’t heard anyone else say that since I left Devon. As always cracking video, cheers 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Shane 😊 - thanks for watching 👍
I use a glow key ring on my dog's collar.I got it when Mom started losing her eyesight.Really bright and not very big.I hope you treated your wife for suggesting you look for it.
Oh yes, I made a cup of tea 😂
I need one of these for my Whippet...that looks amazing.
I noticed Nun's Cross Farm in the background. Do you have any stories to tell? How bleak it must have been for those who once lived there. Is it ever used now?
The leat passes by Nun’s Cross - I have a quick chat about it and look at the Cross in this video - ua-cam.com/video/0YO9pRr_zEk/v-deo.html - Nun’s Cross must have been quite miserable, but not half as miserable as Swincombe Farm on the other side of the mire, there is a letter on record from the farmer pleading to be released from his tenancy because it was so dreadful.
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 thanks. Yes, we can't truly imagine what a miserable existence those people must have had, trying to scrape a living up there...
Hi everybody my name is Petra and this is my human Shamus.😉
You were lucky
Phew 😅
I’m so glad you found it! That’s great that it still works and survived under water for a week and 7 minutes!! I’m thinking of getting one for my Bella’s collar. It would help finding her in the dark.
Hi Margaret - it certainly is weatherproof, that's for sure 😊
What was the name of the dog light. I normally us a flashing collar but it looks tacky and cheap. Max is always complaining that he wants a better one lol.
Hi Steve, theres a link in the description. Ruffwear Beacon. It's not the cheapest thing in town, but blimey! I was gobsmacked when I found it and it still worked. It had 3 colours of LED and different flash modes.
Good bit of detective work there Shamus. Glad you found it and somewhat impressed that it held up after it's week long aquatic adventure.👍
Thank you 😊 I was certainly impressed with finding it again, let alone the thing still working 😂
1 week!! Haha. Going to get one on order now. This reminded of a glove that I lost coming down the Glyders, always regret not going back for it 😂
We have these moment sometimes, don't we. I haven't been in the Glyderau for some years, but next time I'll keep an eye out for a glove 😉
Hi Shamus and Petra. Always a bonus to find something valuable after you were sure that you had lost it.. Nice too when something turns out to be more durable than expected! Once again It is obvious of the time and effort that you are spending on your video productions. You nearly have 1000 subscribers now so your hard work is paying off. Tom
Hi Tom 👍 Good morning. Thank you for your support, buddy.
I was puzzled last night, I'm sure I got a notification - something about the Mourne Mtns ... Did you post on FB or YT last night, I couldn't fond it? Im off out in moment for another over nighter - catch you later 😊
@@outdoorsinspiration9284 Hi Shamus, no no posts from me on FB or UA-cam last night. enjoy your overnight. Tom
I love the ruffwear gear 🥰 my dog has a regular harness from them, but for his backpack harness, Marley has the orange Helios one. I just chose it because it was the first one I saw online that had detachable backpacks incase he gets fed up carrying his own food and bowls 🙊🙊🐶💖 edit- I should also say he has a nite ize mini glowstick light, it’s not super bright....but....it floats! 😝 maybe a better idea for a dog like Petra 🤪
Thank you Emma, I’ll certainly look at that 😊 On e Petra had taken to wearing a pack, she was very happy 👍🐕
Outdoors Inspiration yes she looks very happy wearing it 🥰 my dogs a 17kg staffy cross and he’s very spoiled, so I’ll need to see how the pack carrying situation goes 🤣 I’m brand new to camping and due to the covid lockdown at summer, we didn’t get out but hopefully we will go an autumn trip really soon before the Scottish winter arrives 🙈🥶
Love it. Once max is better we'll get him some of that kit
Hi Ben, we lost that light in the leat about 5 minutes before meeting up with you a few weeks back - it was a week later (the following Sunday) when we found it again - I was gobsmacked by that light was still there and working 😊
I'm not a dog owner, but it doesn't matter. Your enthusiasm and experience is infectious, always look forward to your posts. Please keep them coming 👍
Thank you, Jonathan. I really appreciate that 😊 Just coming off the moor at the moment so a new wild camping video tomorrow 👍
