- 2023 KTM 300xc Rocky Mountain Beatdown Test over some of the toughest single track in Colorado.
My 30 hour review on KTM’s new updated ECU Map, finally a review on how the bike works in the high Rockies, tire choices, Raptor Foot Pegs, Power Parts seat, and suspension by @factorysuspensionworks7010. @slaverace1 @stillmostimptessivebikeever
M59 front 💪🏼
Yeah I agree on the M59! Keep coming back to it. It just works
Question. Do you live at +5k ft? I assume it runs great and the throttle is responsive? I bought a Honda CRF450L and installed a GET ECU. I ride at 1k ft but when i traveled to the san Juans it ran like crap. Sold it. I just dont want to make the same mistake. I want it to be close to the same at 1k as 10k. I know there will be some power loss. I just want it to idle and not stall.
Yes I live @4,800 ft. Any internal combustion engine is going to loose ~ 20% at 10,000ft I know that race cars (non turbo) loose close to 30% 14,000ft when racing to the top of Pikes Peak. So up here that’s why so many people are running higher compression pistons in a 4Strokes or higher compression heads on 2strokes. Plus one tooth smaller on the counter shaft or 2-3 larger on the back. My ‘23 300xc is the only bike I’ve ever left stock (I use the high power map) and it is strong!! I can’t imagine how much more powerful it is at sea level.
I hope that answers your question some? I used to ride 500strokes in the 1980’s and 450mx bikes later… things are weaker at high altitude even when jetted or mapped well.
Have a good one 👍
@@CoBryan Thank you. I don't think KTM changes anything for altitude off the showroom. I expect to lose some power at altitude but don't want it to pop, backfire, complain, or belly ache. Just smooth power from bottom to top.
Updated map? Do I need that? I have 10 hours
Well, the latest map (which I believe ends in 01) was available to me about six weeks ago, so I’m not sure when you got the bike, but if you have purchased your bike recently, when the dealer hooked it up to unlock the bike initially, it may have unlocked the map automatically. If you have a ‘24, I’m not sure if the ‘24’s came with the map….there is confusion on this. But, it is worth investigating because there is a substantial difference in performance and fuel mileage. So, if you are in good with your dealer, depending on when you bought it, it would be worth hooking it up to his KTM computer so it could install the map on the spot. It should be free….I had to pay for half an hour of labor to hook it up to the computer. I think it should be free because it is a mandatory update and provides better performance, better rideability, and it stops the spark plug fouling from the earlier map which was way too rich. Sorry if I sounded a little unsure, but there does seem to be confusion on which map bikes come with. My bike was one of the first 300’s available so it was one of the ones without the new map, but in my opinion, it is worth talking to your dealer. I know that the only way to tell if it has the new map is when the dealer hooks it up to the KTM computer and then it can download the map automatically from there. It’s a great bike with the earlier map but it is just by far the best bike I have ever ridden with the updated map. Have fun with the bike!!
