It was a gloabl issue in 2008, as is the the reason for labours monumental task. Covid, and then inflation, and the narrow avoidance of hard recessions world wide are why they will have to first grow the economy before anything drastic changes. The question is will they last long enough to make a change

I read that in the dark ages of etiquette and decorum, wine glasses were deliberately made to be fragile to force people around the table to take care in what they were doing.
All this pomp and ceremony involved in parliament could be seen as a similar example. The UK was once a brutal, lawless land and a lot of work has gone into making us a civilisation that works. It might be seen as outdated now, but it harks back to a time where things like this were necessary to keep people orderly.
The more we fall out of love with law and order, the more we fall into the manipulations of corporations and individuals that mean us harm.

At least in the Spanish Parliament they have enough seats for everyone to sit down on. That's not the case in the House of Commons, there's only room for around 500 to sit, but there are 650 actual MPs. In the UK, we have a natural propensity for not getting things right, this is a further example of incompetence, even though they've had decades to sort out this obvious problem of getting the number of seats to match the number of MPs.
