What They don't Tell you, New Oven Range not recessed in like the Old Stove Installation

- How to be prepared before your new Stove arrives. What they don't tell you about installing your new Oven Range Stove. The new Oven Ranges today are not recessed in to provide room for the gas pipes that come out of the wall. The old Stoves had a back that was recessed in to let the stove sit closer to the wall. The solution to the problem is to hire a Plumber to reconfigure the gas pipes into the wall, might be better to do this before your new Range is delivered ?
Wow. Now I get why my new stove is sticking out. Got it.
I’ve been a gas service man now for about 35 years. I’ve installed hundreds of gas ranges and fixed hundreds of leaks behind ranges. He definitely will have to get into the wall and redo the gas line so it comes out lower to the ground and fits within the concave on the back of the range. It’s not that they don’t tell you at the store. They are completely clueless.
Great video. So they removed the recess so the oven is bigger for one day a year to cook the mother of all turkeys. That turkey now cost $750. Awesome. I hate appliance manufacturers.
I wish I saw this before we had our new slide in gas range delivered!!!!!!
Thank you for explaining this! It was very helpful to me.
Im just glad im not alone. this absolutely triggers my ocd. Now i have to make multiple modifications to my home. STOP CHANGING THINGS THAT DONT NEED TO BE CHANGED. If it aint broke dont fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for you vid
I read about the 3 inches i didn't understand if this applied to electric oven but with this video it helped me know it wouldn't apply to my situation. Thanks
You’re welcome 😊
We just switched from a gas oven to electric. It was delivered today and does not sit flush against the wall. You are correct, we never thought about that. It's not just the gas pipe either, it's the old timey BIG electric connector back there. Ugh!
Also having the exact problem. Switched to an electric and the outlet is BIG! My oven protrudes almost 5" and dishwasher won't open :-0 I'm very surprised. Definitely the sellers are CLUELESS to this situation!
thank you so much for this video. It was really helpful.
Well done Sir and Thank you
Came across this problem today! Damn. Luckily I have a friend in the plumbing business.
Thank you for the info
We JUST moved our gas line several inches to align with our new cabinets but now have to move it AGAIN because our new Frigidaire Gallery stove won't fit against our wall. :( The only problem with this video is that people will tend not to Google the topic until AFTER they discover there's a problem. But thanks for trying to give a heads-up.
Not true here I'm doing my homework and found this. But honestly sometimes you measure and do your homework and still there is a problem.
I may be having the same issue you had. The bottom six inches of the new Frigidaire oven I just bought is recessed by about 3 inches. However, the gas regulator (that the gas line threads into) is just in line with the gas stub and valve coming out of the floor, which keeps the stove from sitting flush with the wall. Man, am I upset.
Im happy i have an electric oven that i have to replace because i would be pissed having to do all this extra work in addition to the cost of the new oven
I just tried installing my new electric range today, where the receptacle is located, the plug is where the back of the range is flat, not recessed. It has a recessed area but of course it is about 8” away…. Probably going to have to open up my wall and move the box to the other side of the stud cavity.
I did not have that problem but I did purposely pull my oven out 3-4" to have better access to the back burners with more head room between the micro range and stove top and it doesn't look bad, even considering putting a shelf valence behind to close the gap ,possibly for oils and seasonings... never know
Thank God it's only the gas and not water line 😅
I have the same issue. I wish I had known. My home was built in 2005 and the gas line is out but my previous home was built in 1994 and the gas line was in the wall. I hope it doesn’t cost too much to place the gas line in the wall. Plumbers can be scammers in my area 😔
They’re scammers in my area too.
Had this same issue but it was with my new electric stove that I bought to an older stove in a 100 year old house and an electrical outlet that juts out from the wall. I had the outlet lowered to match the indentation of the stove with saved me an inch but now the stove power cord is so thick that the stove still isn't flush against the wall. Uggh! Now i have to figure out how to manuever the cord to get the stove as flush as possible. Things like this will fover bother me especially when I point it out. It's like I can't unsee it!
Good video, Thanks. I have the same stove but mine does not stick out as far; but it does protrude further out than my old one. Just another one of those unintended circumstances. Maybe I pushed it back too far. So far, I don't smell any gas. Curious if anyone had this done and what they paid.
Same issue for me, plumber is coming to fix it. Looks like there is a recess on the new stoves but it's way down lower. Pretty sure all new stoves have slightly different recesses too, at least that's what my plumber told me.
the lack of indentation is due to having convection oven capabilities. They had to put it somewhere, but yes you may need to do adjustments in the rear to get it to fit.
we just ran into this problem today ! crazy.....
I’m so mad today! I just discovered this issue too late, too. My new stove came and sure enough, not only is there a huge gap in the back, but my cabinet drawers can’t open from one side. The kitchen is L shaped and stove is right in that corner. Of course, terrible Home Depot installers didn’t even bother checking that everything is ok. So I guess my options are to, either stop using drawers that can’t open without hitting range knobs and oven handle, or move the gas line??
Sorry to hear that, we had to move the Gas Line 😒
Is this over bigger than the old one? 5 cu ft vs 6 cubit foot.
Help
Can this be plugged into regular wall outlet?
Customer needs to look at the spec sheet and relocate the gas to the space that the new range requires as per spec. This range will have the hook up near the floor where the void is.
Haven’t started my renovation yet and this is how mine is right now and I HATE it. I don’t eat dry turkey so who wants an oven that big??? 😡
Our gas is supplied at the floor. I see your oven is recessed near the floor so it would be flush at our place. Our house is 122 years old. However, I want to install an Induction Range, so I'll need to remove the gas supply line from the floor. There used to be an electric range, so the electrical outlet is still there.
Couldent i just buy a stove with a recess in the back instead of hiring a plumber for this job?
As long as it is safe I'm cool
Is this because the stove is imported?
I think everything is imported today and the Chinese Engineer/Designers are not familiar with older American Houses.
@@reccatheruinsofamerica6224 It's not the fault of anyone for importing anything - you simply bought a stove not designed for that space. They still make slide-in stoves that would have fit in the place of your old one, they just cost more.
My electric stove is like that i dont care still cooks.
buddy it looks fine sticking out 4 inches from the counters. you're just creating lots of new problems and headaches for yourself.
Drill a hole in the back oven cover
It never hurts to do your own research and not to rely on a minimum wage appliance guy that at the end of the days doesn't really give a shit.
electric ranges have the same issue. No well to store the excess electrical cord! that along with a flat top leaves one super large gap to the wall. This is dumb design!!!!!! looks so bad and unfinished!!!!!
Quit rambling
Go stare at your Gold 😳
