    I have Bridgestone Driveguard runflat tires winter set, as well as summer set and I'm happy with it. Not so stiff, not so rough ride with them and they are giving me comfort of not having to change wheel on the highway, at night, or when it's cold or raining outside.

    When I bought my Lexus , first think in my mind is to put run flats on it. I did it and was very happy. I drove 45k miles on my 2019 Lexus 450h on my run flat. time to change for 2nd set of four. I have 5 flats during 45k males. its saves me time(never late to work, meeting ), saves me money(never replace tire after puncture) , saves my life(never stoped on road that cars passing by me at 70miles per hour). Yes I pay for run flats $400 more than regular tires. but you can't by life for $400.

    I had run flat tires on my Audi. I can tell that the steering was way more precise than with regular tires because of the steel walls. Also, we ran almost 20 km whithout noticing that the tire was flat. No sound or vibration at all.
    I dont use run flar anymore because of the weight. Too much pressure on suspension and bushing

  • @lewisowens4

    All of this is absolutely true! I bought a MINI countrymanS 2010 ALL4 about 3 months ago, the previous owner had put "high quality" expensive Run Flat tires on the front and had normal Summer tires on the back. Let me tell you, having these tires on it makes it ride and sound horribel, it's extremly loud and makes for an extremely rough ride. In 2 days I'm Having Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires installed, I have a feeling this is going to be MUCH more comfortable!
    I would say 110% NEVER buy Run Flat tires, unless (LOL) you plan on getting your tires shot with bullets in a battle, and still have to drive. Just spend more money on some nice tires that ride well!
    Keep up the great work Scott!

    • @Horizon301.
      @Horizon301. 5 років тому +4

      diln chil why would they care? Most consumers have no concern. In Europe where these manufacturers come from it’s just temporary to get you to a tyre place, dealer etc. Inflation kits, spare tyre, runflats etc all do the same thing. Except with the spare tyre you usually have to call out the breakdown service to change the tyre. It’s simpler with runflats if anything and safer in case of a blowout for whatever reason which has happened to us as a result of the alignment being wrong on our A6, the dealer covered half the cost of the new tyres though but it could have been less of a worry with runflats.

    • @2WhiteAndNerdy
      @2WhiteAndNerdy 5 років тому +31

      Chatta290 O rly? Apparently you've never had a major blowout where a little can of fix-a-flat isn't going to do you much good. Or been in a location where a wrecker's going to take many hours to get to you. Last time I had a had a flat, it was in the middle of nowhere Montana during a snowstorm (of COURSE that's when it happens) where it was howling wind and -10F. Thank GOD I had a proper spare. Maybe took 10 minutes tops and I was back on the road. That would have been a miserable wait for a service to come rescue me.

    • @Horizon301.
      @Horizon301. 5 років тому +5

      2WhiteAndNerdy I said Europe, mainly the U.K. the AA, RAC get to you within an hour usually and again I’m referring to European consumers because most of eat BMW will do is going to be based on local needs and requirements. And again most people don’t even know how to change a tyre so it’s pointless if you ask me, I know how to do it but I wouldn’t ever bother as the AA can do it easily and safely without any issues straight from BMW, Audi etc as they have then on roadside recovery. That’s my point here, different demographics present new issues.

    I've actually been using run flat tires for over 10 years and they do not ride rougher than regular tires unless they have no air inside them because of a puncture and they have no affect your gas mileage. I can remember the times where I had zero air pressure in one or two tires and didn't have to stop in the middle of nowhere or bad weather to change them. The replacement cost is not an issue if you use Discount Tire and purchase a road hazard warranty that will repair or replace the tires for free. Run flat tires are worth every penny.

    As a Certified Tire Pro for National Tire and Battery, I agree with you 100% on this. The big bummer thing about these run-flat tires is many manufacturers recommend NOT repairing them!
    So if one gets damaged you gotta buy a new one anyway (Pirelli and Bridgestone especially). Continental and Michelin are ok under certain circumstances though. Still, EXPENSIVE!

    I'm glad Scotty mentioned portable tire inflators. If I get a flat, I first try to inflate the tire. As long as the tire holds air long enough to drive to a repair shop, I prefer that method. If I can avoid changing a flat tire on the side of the road, I will do that. I can see a practical use for run flat tires on military vehicles, where lives are at risk, but they don't seem to be worth the expense in most cases. Everything on my nearly 20 year old car is low tech and I prefer it that way.

    My Corvette came with run-flats because there's no room for a spare and the front and rear tires are different sizes so definitely no room for two spares. Switching to normal tires made night and day difference in ride but did lose a little cornering due to the softer sidewalls. No regrets on getting rid of the run-flats.

    I have a Z4 with Run Flat tyres. I decided to stay with Run Flat tyres after I saw a simulated type blowout on UA-cam. The car was fitted with standard tyres and driving at 60 or 70 mph. They activated a small explosive charge in one of the tyres and the car lost total control and almost rolled over. They did the same simulation with run flat tyres and the car carried on as if nothing had happened. It convinced me. I know run flat tyres can be a little uncomfortable and a little more expensive, but was price safety and piece of mind.

    I own Lexus RX 450h. My brother Lexus NX 300. We replace original basic tires to run flat tires. We take out spare tire from trunk and using space . Very happy. Yes, its little expansive but it's worth it. Most important is that it's very safe.
    Freedom to choose where you want to change a tire.
    Safer handling than conventional tires in an air-loss situation.
    Run-flat tires won’t leave you stranded at the side of the road or force you to dig out your spare and change it.
    Run flat tires provide a safer solution.

    Just ran my x1 (with factory sport suspension) through the Rockies on runflat winter tires (sottozero 3) like BMW suggested as they said it's tuned for the stiff run flat tires. It handled dry, heavy rain, and near freezing conditions perfectly at high speed. These run flats stability and grip gave me so much confidence in poor road condition and never slide even once at high speed turn. That extra room without the spare tires also allowed me to carry a lot more luggages. Passengers in car were able to sleep through most of the way thanks to low body rolls at high speed turns. Very happy, zero regret with the sottozero 3 runflat.

    Personally I enjoyed having the run flats on my car. Yeah it was a bmw but I never had to worry about my tires. I had a couple occasions where I had a nail in my tire and I didn’t even notice until the light told me it was flat. The tires themselves were $132 a piece from Bridgestone. Not too bad in my opinion.

      You should have tried driving the car with normal tires on it. Massive improvement, I have driven BMW's same car with dealer RFT's and with normal tires, normal tires are SOOOO much better to drive on.
      Yeah you can drive on the tire flat but your till screwed if you have a catastrophic tire failure
      Also, with a BMW the light comes on when the tire is LOW not FLAT meaning you even with a normal tire could still drive to get more air I know my F30 and E90, for instance, liked to let me know at 29 pounds of pressure that my tire was low when 38 pounds was where it was supposed to be. Which wile low is nowhere near flat.

    Edit/Update: I had run flats on my 328 and now my 535. With both cars I have hit a nail or screw and was able to still drive and have the tire repaired. They "volcanize" the rubber to complete the repair.

      I used to work as a tire tech. As soon as you use fix a flat...you void your ability to have the tire properly repaired. Which is fine if the tire is at the end of it's life anyway, or the puncture is in a non repairable area... but other than that I would never recommend fix a flat. Same thing with those plug kits, they are temporary not permanent proper repairs. The correct way is to remove the tire, and we used a combination patch/plug from the inside. It's not that expensive either, we only charged like maybe $20, and if they were our tires...the fix was free under warranty.

I got in my car this past week and when I drove off I got that message about low air pressure and when I pulled it up on the screen it shows my rear left tire only had 15 psi. I clear the screen and continue driving to my destination without even thinking about the flat. Try doing that with a regular tire. At the end of the day when I had time I took the car to a tire shop where the flat was replaced for $10. Run flats may cost more but not having to wait around to fix a flat or be stranded at the side of the road is more important than saving a few bucks.

    Spend your money on a AAA card instead. Auto Club roadside service will get your car off the side of the highway and get you to the nearest tire shop. One time, I tipped the guy to take me and my flat tire to the store. We had a sandwich while the shop put a new tire on the rim. Drove back to my car, he installed the tire. We shook hands and I was on my way.

      AAA is nice. But a car owner should still learn how to change a tire. You never know when you might have a situation where you need to fix on your own.

      Might depend on where you are. AAA in my area has left people stranded or taken hours just to get to someone. We are a populated area with plenty of com ercial and auto places around. We usually get a phone call from people that had been left out there for hours because AAA never showed up or the techs sent out drove away after ariving.

      Disney Fan: AAA is awesome, I only used it once in my 5+ years membership, and I would never forget how they got me really fast out of the f-up situation i was (it was battery related).
      About run flat tires, I have an Infiniti and my model comes standard with run flats. They are a little bit bumpy but it doesn't compare to waking up at 5 am to go to work and having to change a flat... aaand being late at work.

    He’s so right, my tire shred in the middle of the highway in New York City, I had run flats and went to three stores and didn’t have run flats, ended up driving an extra 30 miles to another store

    i agree with you completely. working at a tire shop i can say you're spot on. however, you need to get out of the rut of "I disagree with you, therefore you are wrong." and the cost of those runflats for that 3 series is incredibly off. I can get tires for that car for less than 95 bucks and runflats for $150-160. fix a flat as well is terrible to run in tires, lots of tire shops refuse to work on them, and it messes with the compount. fact checks, maybe, instead of relying off your narrow band of experience and opinion? just like your mercedes repair bill?
