I got my 2000 ford ranger (4.0 V6 5spd manual 4x4) from my grandma as a graduation gift. It's my baby, I learned how to drive stick and and how to drive in general in it. It has served my family longer then I've been alive. It was and still is my first car, I had my first fender bender in it and had to rebuild it with my dad, got my first speeding ticket, and my first real off roading experience in it. It is a part of me and always will be.

@@malcolmford2146 pretty smoothly actually, I've had cars that were worse with a manual, longer throws but still fun to drive, I put studded tires on mine front and rear and some sand bags in the bed and drove it for a winter here in PA, was passing people with AWD haha highly recommend a ranger
Still have my 05 ranger edge supercab. Owned since 2006 with 6k miles. Got me threw high school, multiple jobs, a career, multiple girlfriends lol and finally a marriage. Still ticks a long with regular maintenance. Actually spending the dough and having faded parts of the body repainted. And replacing the interior: flooring, headliner, seats etc. It's cheaper then buying a new truck
I do still miss my '98 Ranger XLT, it wasn't too bad to drive with the 2.5L 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual as well. Loved the styling, everything just... worked, even at 198k miles. Great video!
Original owner of a 2000 Ford XLT Ranger Extended Cab 3.0 V6 2wd with automatic. A great small work horse truck with low mileage 145,000. It never any let me down with regular maintenance the biggest expense was tires a one water pump and radiator replacement. Ford just a thought get down to basics and make an American better built Ford truck again 😅 !
I have a 2005 Ford Ranger XLT Extended Cab 4 Door with the same transmission and engine. It currently has over 240,000 miles and to this day, I have never had to add any oil between oil changes. The transmission is the same 5 speed automatic and it still shifts and operates like it should with no oil leaks. It has a Leer shell on the back that is color matched to the truck, Desert Tan I believe is the color. Knock on wood, this is the perfect truck for me and at my age,72, I'm not looking to replace it. Oh yeah! The AC will run you out of the truck! If you take care of one of these little trucks and don't abuse it, I'm convinced they will just about run forever.
Got passed down my Grandfather’s Ford Ranger 03’ with 91,000 miles on it. Works like a charm, it’s what everyone can use. For utilities or not, its very astute in being basic. Build quality has not diminished, its a truck i can confidently say will last for a long time.
I have a 03 ranger edge 3.0v6 has 90k on it, last year I drove it from San Diego to Florida took me 4 days ,had it about 10 years ,il keep it until it dies then i don't know what il do , nobody makes a small truck anymore , I love the fact that its a basic truck, no carpet on the floor just rubber very easy to keep the interior clean, I love my little ranger
I have a 2004 Ranger Edge extended cab. I bought it new after my '85 Ranger bit the dust. It looks almost identical to the one in your video. I like it very much, even though I have a couple of complaints. It has only 32,000 miles on it (I'm retired and don't get out much,) but I have already had to have the fuel pump replaced ($744) the day after I got home from the hospital with a broken hip. I had to have it towed to a shop (another $125.) I would have done that job myself, but the hip wasn't having any part of that. It also has one or more ball joints squeaking and clunking. It's been a little over 2 months since I broke the hip, so I think I'll be able to do that job myself in a couple more weeks. Good time to replace the brake pads, too. Other than those two issues, I still love to look at it and drive it.
Love me some ford rangers! Simple and honestly super reliable. Had a 98 ranger right out of high school had a 2.5 4 banger and a 5 speed we beat the living crap out of it and in always kept going!
I just got the same truck, all black 2wd edge , with 4:10 gears but has an open diff. The edge package gives the front suspension and ride height of the 4x4 , without 4x4
Got my license a couple years ago, bought a 2003 ranger 4l v6. My only complaint is that it has 244k km. Still running strong though the cup holders are annoying bout hey, it was before the big gulp
Learned to drive on my dads gray 2011 sport 4x4 with the 4.0 V6, automatic, Supercab, vinyl floors, bucket seats and all the bells and whistles (like a vinyl floor and power windows ooooohh.) Several years later I inherited my grandfathers 08 XLT 4.0 4x4 supercab almost everything is the same except its white, has regular cloth floors, a bench seat and best ofall it has a manual tranny and no rust because it was from Florida. It’s in much better shape than my dads lol. 2 years later I’m just as obsessed and in love as when I first got it! My dads ranger was already cool in my opinion but with the big ol stick shift and the bench seat it makes it feel more vintage and badass and it’s definitely more fun to drive around in! Also the 4.0 V6 feels like a rocket ship when compared to the 4 cylinders
These are some of the best trucks ever made even though I’m not a fan of the junky & gutless 3.0L engine. 10:09, as for the interior, it’s really not that bad & is actually pretty well put together overall. These still have a much better interior than all of its competitors did at the time, plus Ford interiors often tend to stand the test of time unlike the crap from GM & Chrysler.
I have an 03 xlt with every feature loaded. It has the 4.0 which is much more peppy and 4wd. I work on my family’s farm and it goes everywhere and hauls everything I want. I’m not saying it will tow 50,000 lbs or rock climb but bang for bucks I think these little trucks are as good as it gets.
Respect the ranger, indeed! Owner of a 2008 Sport with the 3.0 here. Imo, these are pound for pound some of the toughest little trucks EVER! I woke my little thundering three up with a CAI and a tuned exhaust, and a mild Thornton tuning chip. It'll never win any races, but it's sure as hell fun to drive now. It's done everything I've ever asked of it, including towing my three thousand pound 20' galaxy runabout. I kinda had to plan my stops and lock out the overdrive, but it never had any problems getting up the ramp. I intend to drive it til it drops or I do, whichever comes first! The best part is, it's paid for!
I had a 2001 Ranger that I bought for cheap off my brother. It was a 2.5L I4, 5-speed, 2wd, regular cab with the 6' bed. Before I bought it, he had drove it for 40K+ miles, fixed some things, ignored other problems, swapped axles from the stock 7.5" dinky unit to an 8.8" with 4.10 gears. When I bought it, it was sitting at around 180K+ miles. I lifted the front too much (oops), had a mutual friend of ours weld the rear gears (Lincoln Locker?) and put some 15" Jeep Wrangler wheels with 30" tires on it. We used it on the Gambler 500 in 2020, and that thing did a fantastic job! A little cramped for someone of my height, the clutch was messed up and engaged WAY too high and it had little to no power. But, it hardly ever got stuck off-road! It helped me to fall in love with this platform! I sold the truck and eventually bought a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer V8 to serve as my off-roader. It addresses all the shortcomings of the Ranger, and performs even better off-road! In short, great little truck that served as a gateway drug for more of these vehicles!
my 2003 ranger (my first and current car) has the fold out back seats. i have to say i absolutely love it and hope i can use it for years to come, at least until the end of high school
We used to own one. I wish I could’ve driven it. It was a manual and it was a nice red color. It was a late 90’s model. I know drive a tacoma of the same era and I think I’d still pick the taco but that red ranger was a cutie
We had a 2003 with low mileage that constantly broke down, possibly from sitting for too long. I daily a 2008 with 236k miles. It runs like a top, but has terminal rust issues. Both were 4.0 V6s with the 5 speed auto, ext cab, and 4wd. The bigger V6 has plenty of power, but terrible traction without weight in the bed, even by pickup standards.
I have a 2003 Edge + Supercab with the 3.0 and a 5-speed manual. It originally had the 5R44E Automatic, but that blew up at around 78,000 miles, which was unfortunate but I believe it was due to previous owners and not Ford. I swapped the truck to a manual and never looked back. Anyways, I bought the truck with 42,000 miles back in 2010. Still have it today, still drive it almost every day, and she's now at 193,000 miles. It's been one hell of a truck, and I don't think there's anything else I want. I like my trucks basic, and the Ranger fits that bill perfectly. As for your review, you missed a few things such as that factory 6-Disc CD Radio (They were premium, even though they're known for breaking), and you kept mentioning 4 cylinders when they were not an option on the Edge trucks. Also, the oil pressure gauge is worthless on almost all mid-80's to late 2000's Ford trucks because it's just a switch that reads at half scale as soon as the switch sees 4 psi of oil pressure. In a low oil pressure scenario, by the time that gauge moves, your engine is already toast from being starved of oil.
I got an 05 Edge Extended Cab a couple of months ago. I’m in the process of modifying it. It’s a 2wd, but being the Edge, it has the 4wd torsion bar suspension so I’m planning on giving it a small lift. I’ve already added a touch screen radio and halo projector headlights. I’ve got several other smaller things planned for it as well. I was wanting a full size truck when I got it, but truck prices are nuts these days, so I’m gonna mod this one and hang onto it for a while and probably then move on to a full size. I do appreciate the simplicity of the Ranger though. I feel like I can actually work on this thing.
My grandfather taught me to drive in a 2000 with the 5 speed manual on the floor. Faithfully carried him over 100 miles a day to and from work for over 15 years until he retired. He sold it a few years ago and I’ve regretted many times that I didn’t buy it from him. Solid little trucks that feel like a classic today.
I just bought a 2002 Ranger Edge with a V6 and 5 speed Regular cab,4x4 (Yellow) 1 owner 113,00 miles, Excellent condition, Its all I need, Looking forward to to owning this truck.
Owned a 2003 Ford Ranger Tremor for 12 years now. Got it with 11k miles on it. Literally trouble free. 3.0 v6 engine as well and it does love gas. But it is a simple, analog truck and will last a while. Easy to fix and reliable. Sure beats a new 42k dollar Ranger and a phat payment.
I own a 2003 Mazda B3000 Dual Sport. It’s literally this exact truck with the exact configuration and trim level except it’s the Mazda version. It’s a good truck. Sluggish, like you said in the video but it’s pretty darn reliable.
Two years ago I got a 03 ranger with a 4.0 and stick shift. First "nice" Vehicle Ive ever owned. First vehicle with power windows and it passed smog! This truck has been treating me good even though I dont always treat her as nice. Ive been workin on her and she's finally not ridin dirty so that's a huge improvement. Can't wait to see what she'll look like in 5 years
The Air Bag off switch was for child seats in the front seat on trucks. I have had two Ranger XLT extended cabs first was a two door and current one is a four door as the first was a total when hit. My current one has that same tonneau cover and it's a not a very common one to find.
You forgot to mention that there is also a 4.0 L V6, which obviously has more power than the 3.0. Having driven both, the 4.0 feels much truckier and capable than the 3.0. Good review though!
@@isaac4273 The OHV were pretty good and reliable, but once they switched to SOHC, the trucks had some timing chain issues. Ford mostly corrected this by 05 I think though.
My dear friend and neighbor had base 2003. He was kind enough to let me use it early on in my construction/real estate career. I enjoyed driving and working with it so much that when he ended up wrecking it, I purchased a 2005 and am loving it even more in a manual 4.0 V6 (his was auto & V4).
As a junior currently in high school I was blessed to have a 2005 Ford Ranger and not just any base model it was an XLT while it does seem a little bit dated it still keeps its nice and the Elegance the vehicle currently has over 74,445 it only had 71156 when I bought it so I pretty much put over the past four months of ownership three thousand miles on it which is expected since I do go cruising in it a lot it's a very nice little truck and I honestly could not want anything better because I've been hauling things constantly with that truck and it's held up to so much damn use over the past 16 years sure the body paint is faded and sure there is a little bit of rust here and there but it's not too severe
I have a 2001 ranger edge love it it's a great truck it was owned by 2 people before me it had a previous owner then my grandfather bought it and drove it for a couple years and now it's my first truck it is an automatic 5 speed transmission and it's has the 3.0l v6 engine and it's rwd not 4wd but that's fine love the truck would highly recommend a late second gen to early or any 3rd gen to anybody they never leave anyone stranded and there hard to kill

I currently have a 96 Mazda B3000 which is more plain than this Ranger. Mine has no cupholders no passenger airbag, and the 4x4 is floor shift with lock hubs which wasn't common by those years. Also it came with the plain steel rims which I painted white to match the truck. Other than this Mazda, I had an 84 Ranger and a 93 Ranger XLT. I highly recommend these trucks.
It was back in 2002 I bought a 1999 ranger and it had the V6 and its V6 was an all cast iron engine. It had the chrome step things on sides and chrome wheels just loke the one in the video. Now it had chrome front and rear bumper. It was very tough and dependable. I rarely drove it because I was addicted to my 89 cadillac brougham and still am today
The plastic cup holders come completely out for bigger cups and also have a small pad in the bottom that comes out and is easy to clean if you spill something
I got my Ford Ranger 4x4 XLT v6 4.0 and it works great. I love the bed is long enough to actually do something with. Most trucks have small beds and you cannot put anything in them. So far I have hauled some firewood and it worked great for that, not super fast take off but I have my 2014 Fiesta ST for that.
96' 2wd 3.0 automatic, basic run of the mill. 216,000 miles, $1300 to purchase, $2800 on top to make road worthy! Cool little truck, but it seems to be the Huffy of small trucks!
We Love our 11 Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 with the 4.0 V6. We’ve added some upgrades bc it’s a truck for work around our property. I did add a K&N intake and a FlowMaster exhaust. I now get 23-25 mpg with the cruise set on 75mph. Even though it’s almost 12 years old , it only has 35K miles
That ford ranger is the most reliable vehicle at that Toyota dealership by a long shot, getting rid of my rock solid 02 ranger for an extremely unreliable 2013 Tacoma was the biggest mistake of my life, it’s crazy how the ranger got discontinued but the Tacoma didn’t
with the cupholder if you pop the insert out your big bottle would of fit I can fit anything from a 1L brisk iced tea bottle down to a red bull can snug in my cup holder
My dad owns a 2006 mazda b2300(ford ranger xl) and it's my favorite car, i wish he had gotten it with the supercab option, but he's a real chepo, anyway, it's lived a very good life and seems to run fine
Had to replace clutch at 200k miles. Fuel pump at about 175k but those have been the only major issues. Bought the truck with 100k on it for $4500 about ten years ago
The new rangers aren’t like this. They’re like cars now. I prefer this, the long bed, front bench seat and column shifter. It should be a farm vehicle like this. Reguardless is nicer to me.
Got a 1996 ford ranger 3.0 4x4 as my first truck. Had 101k on it when I got it and now has 154k. I have gotten it burried in a creek over night, driven it through a foot of snow, hauled a 12 foot trailer loaded down with stuff countless times, and hauled a 2500lb boat countless times. The truck took care of me for my last 3 years of highschool and took me to my first job. She is still going strong and I plan to keep her forever.
I just got a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge, super cab with a V6 and 5 speed manual. It however is not my first Ford Ranger, that would be my 1972 Ford Ranger F-150. And like that truck, this one two is very basic. Trucks back then weren’t just built to last, they was built to work. And we didn’t call them Cowboy Limousines back then, like Dodge did with their 1999 Dodge Quad Club Cab 3500’s. Back then they was often cold natured, yet never failed to start on even the coldest day. And you could drive those old 1970’s Ford Rangers half way across Texas, with a blowed head gasket and clogged radiator and it wouldn’t leave you on the side of the road with a faulty injector pump.

Even though the truck looks good and I've seen many video reviews that put the ranger in a good position in terms of reliability, some coworkers, who are also mechanics, been telling me they don't trust them that much. Faulty electronic system. They talk about the timing chain been a pain in the A when need fixing. U know, im in this situation where I like the truck but hearing those things makes me backdown on buying it.
Dude me and my friend were literally just looking at rangers to buy and you upload this!
It is a part of me and always will be.
still have my 2004 ranger edge 2wd as my winter car, lowered 7 inches in the back and 5 in the front on bassett steelies, 325000 kms with no major issues to date after five years of ownership
You should record a walk around of it sounds very unique
I love my 04
Is this truck hard to lower?
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge 2wd 3.0 with a 5 speed manual, LOVE IT, also had a 97 Ranger 4.0 auto 4x4 that was indestructible as well lol
You should do a review of your 2001 Ford ranger edge !!
Mine is red still drive it eve day
How does it shift?
@@malcolmford2146 pretty smoothly actually, I've had cars that were worse with a manual, longer throws but still fun to drive, I put studded tires on mine front and rear and some sand bags in the bed and drove it for a winter here in PA, was passing people with AWD haha highly recommend a ranger
@@takumisato7126I am in Philadelphia and the Poconos and am looking for a ranger now. I am sure it is different than shifting my Miata
Very true, Just bought an '02 Ranger 4x4 V6, New truck prices are insane.
Ford just a thought get down to basics and make an American better built Ford truck again 😅 !
my grandpa owned one of these rangers and now he is giving it to me I love this truck.
Got my 2003 in '05. 2WD. Love its middle size. No problems, just general maintenance. Often get offers to sell while getting gas. 🙂
That was my first truck I worked with watering flowers at a country club.Had some hot summer days.
I have the exact same truck, running strong at 200k miles. The engine is a beast. Not fast but damn reliable
The EDGE decal on the lower front bedside has aged gracefully
I have my Dads 2003 xlt that I intend to keep for the rest of my life.
Still running strong though
the cup holders are annoying bout hey, it was before the big gulp
Just picked up a 2004 ranger edge v6 3.0 w/ 100k miles on it. Having my mechanic look it over, but the engine and trans seem solid!
I’m sorry bro but 95% of “tuning chips” are scams
I've got a 03 edge with 312,000 miles still runs great original power train.best 500$ i ever spent
How much did you spend?
How much u pay
@@Sam-xy9pu $3300

The cup holders came with a vertical slide to hold drinks in place and it was removable. If you removed it, your bottle would have fit.
You forgot to mention that there is also a 4.0 L V6, which obviously has more power than the 3.0. Having driven both, the 4.0 feels much truckier and capable than the 3.0. Good review though!
Don't they suffer from cracked heads?
@@isaac4273 The OHV were pretty good and reliable, but once they switched to SOHC, the trucks had some timing chain issues. Ford mostly corrected this by 05 I think though.
My dear friend and neighbor had base 2003. He was kind enough to let me use it early on in my construction/real estate career. I enjoyed driving and working with it so much that when he ended up wrecking it, I purchased a 2005 and am loving it even more in a manual 4.0 V6 (his was auto & V4).
you can take out those sleeves in the cup holders completely, that may work
6:48 image doing that in Houston 😅 had to come back to this video lol
Those inserts pop out to fit bigger cups
I have an 03 ranger edge too, its simple and tough
I have a 2004 with 81k miles! I love it!
Had a black 02 ranger for 6 years. Was my first vehicle out of HS. It was a great little truck!
Great review bro!
I just drove home my fathers 01 EDGE with only 5300 miles on it. A new/old truck.😎🇺🇸
Yes…only 5300 miles on a 21 year old truck.
I recently bought a 2004 Ranger Edge extended cab. Rwd with 183K. 4L engine, 5 Speed Auto. Except for a wonky radio have been happy with it so far.
I have the same year Ranger Edge , but mine is a extra cab and it has the 4 liter V6 that has 220 HP .
it was my first car and still is my only one. i backed it into my parents mailbox within the first week of me owning it. its an 2003 edge with 3.0 rwd and crew cab
I own a 2003 Ford Ranger edge I've had the vehicle for 23 years I have over 500000 miles i have no complaints very reliable
Have an 03 EDGE 3.0. Bought it in 2012 for 3000 and it had 112,000. Still have it, put a clutch, radiator brakes, battery, ball joints waterpump, shocks, battery tires. Drives like new with 170,000 miles. Easy and fun. Runs like new
3k, wow. Can't find a base model ranger for under 10k now.
Thank you for explaining what the EDGE trim is! Somehow I found this information difficult to find!
I have a 98 and a 99, both 3.0L 6 cyl. The 98 has a 5 spd. manual trans, the 99 is an auto that needs help. Love the Ranger!
That is so clean!
So I just found a 2004 ranger with 80k for $4000 it has the 3.0 engine. Is that a good buy?
Yes
The plastic cup holders come completely out for bigger cups and also have a small pad in the bottom that comes out and is easy to clean if you spill something
I found one on Craigslist for 4500 with 160 thousand miles but it was an o5 stepside
My friend has a 07 with the 4 banger, he blew the speakers blasting limp biskit in the school parking lot.
96' 2wd 3.0 automatic, basic run of the mill. 216,000 miles, $1300 to purchase, $2800 on top to make road worthy! Cool little truck, but it seems to be the Huffy of small trucks!
I own a 2004 XLT super cab 4x4 4.0 v6
Looking at same 2004 XLT stepside but with 5 spd manual.
Have a 3.0 from 2003. Edge model. Owned since 2012. Good truck
I have a 2010 Ford Ranger sport it's the best truck I've ever owned in my life I've never had any problems whatsoever at 94,000 miles
I have an 04 Ranger Edge. I've had it since 07 with no major issues. There were a few changes between 03 and 04.
I have an 03 Ranger edge with the sidestep on the bed
We will see how well they were built in a few weeks at the Danger Ranger 9000 race in Florida at the Freedom Factory.
I had a 99 used Ford ranger, 4 cyl engine. Ran like a champ, until I had an accident. Now I have a 94 ranger splash, 6 cyl.
Rangers are damn great Trucks love my 2011 2.3.
2003 fx4 lvl 2 great first truck
That plate "relocator" is illegal in Kommiefornia. There is measurements to follow in the CVC
Im so jealous of the crank handle, this truck should be as simple as possible
I have a 97 ranger 4.0 4x4 and at 440 still running strong my grand father bought it new for the farm
This is actually probably the very top trim package
My dad owns a 2006 mazda b2300(ford ranger xl) and it's my favorite car, i wish he had gotten it with the supercab option, but he's a real chepo, anyway, it's lived a very good life and seems to run fine
Had to replace clutch at 200k miles. Fuel pump at about 175k but those have been the only major issues. Bought the truck with 100k on it for $4500 about ten years ago
Effin Ford Ranger!
Does the EDGE mean like a trim or something?
03 ranger edge 215558 miles 2 fuel pumps one starter and a lot of oil changes not bad
11:26 how did you get that effect? What filter did you use?
A phone app called RareVisionVHS
I have a 2002 Ford Edge Step Side RWD 3.0 looks very nice, going to make it look better 👁👁
On my 3rd one, damn good truck!
Cleetus will buy the all
I know this video is a couple of years old, but the reason you could turn off the airbag is if you had a kid or car seat in the front
