    Nice James, I was gone for two years, had a stroke, but I am back in my shop, and it is so nice to see your still going. I also remember your lovely Kids, the young one and the married one which just start their own shop if I remember remember correctly. I am from Cape town South Africa.

      Alfie, I'm not James, and I hope you don't mind me making this comment to you:
      I'm happy you fought your stroke and could come back to life and your shop! Sitting/laying and learning things is fine, but nothing can beat knowledge + making.
      I love to learn, and I love to watch skilled people, like James here, using their knowledge to teach others how to make things, and how you can do it too.
      Alfie, may you have many more builds and happy hours in your shop.

    You absolutely should. You have nearly half a million subscribers. Some of the biggest companies would sponsor you, likely everyone you call will be interested. They sponsor some I have seen with less than 100k subscribers, and not real good content. You have great content that continues to bring people back. Call them up, I'm sure you will be presently surprised.

    Excellent video! I’m anxious to get in the basement and put mine together 😃 I absolutely think you should ask for some sponsors!!! I’ve actually thought for a long time that you deserve the benefits of some sponsors way more than some who DO have sponsors. Your integrity, style of teaching, and your large number of subscribers would be beneficial to any company you choose to pursue as a sponsor IMO. You should have done this with Nordfab when you got your Harvey dust collector 😉💰

    Nice design overall, but the comments at 51:05 and 52:45 about the accuracy of the digital miter gauge that is glued up is incorrect. While the read-out may be in hundredths of a degree, the manufacturer itself claims only: "Accuracy of this protractor is ±0.3 degree", as you can see on the Amazon page your hardware page site links.

    Really like the sled but will not work for my jobsite saw. The groovess on the saws in my area have a tophat shape groove.

    • @KingsFineWoodworking
      @KingsFineWoodworking  Місяць тому

      Most saws do that that shape in the miter slot. That doesn’t matter. A standard miter bar still fits the slot.
      That upside-down T-shape in your miter slot is a mechanism to hold a miter gauge from dropping even when it is pulled way out in front of the table-top.
      10 of my last 12 table saws I have had also had that shape. And I think all 10 jobsite saws I tested the sled on here in the shop have it too.
      You can even get T-shaped miter bars if you wanted to, but you wouldn’t use those for any sled. A sled needs to lift off and drop in. And it can’t do that with T-shaped miter bars.
      The upside-down T-shaped slot is only used for some things. But most things don’t need it or use it.

    This is exactly what I dreamed of 😂. A smaller version of your flagship sled.
    If I purchase now, but not assemble right away when I get it, would the plywood warp/twist over time? I’m only asking as I’m currently in a position to purchase the sled* BUT not in a position where I have a shop. We recently moved and unfortunately the move came with the downside of no garage, no shed, no extra room, nothing for a shop or anywhere to store my tools. I’m having to rent a storage shed to* keep half of what we owned including all my power tools/tools. Unless you believe you will still be selling these compact flagship sleds in 1yr, then I can purchase then. Thanks!

      It is currently on sale for $100 off. If we are selling them later, it won’t be.

      Both sleds will work perfectly on that saw. It’s just user preference. If you want something bigger because you want to cut a lot of wide boards without removing the front fence then get the big one.

    A few years ago, I noticed there was a whole mess of videos on different channels about how to build your own Moxon vice. They all linked back to part sets that were being sold by Taylor Toolworks. They're a solid company with a great reputation, so I think you would run minimal risk letting your subscribers down if you partnered with them. In your place, they'd be high on my list of companies to contact.
    I think there's little risk of this for you, but I'd also advise against working with too many companies. Some channels I used to really enjoy watching have gone down that path, and I've unsubscribed to some of them. Constantly being sold new tools, etc. grates after a while. Please remain a woodworking channel, not a tools review (read: shill) channel.

    Hi James.
    If you ever sponsor tools please be honest and use them thoroughly before making a video. There’s nothing funny about being influenced into garbage. Mark from The Wood Whisperer is very honest about what his sponsorships. James Hamilton from Stumpy Nubs as well.

    • @KingsFineWoodworking
      @KingsFineWoodworking  Місяць тому

      @@jaimeecaballeros9742,
      I don’t agree about Stumpy Nubs. Not at all.
      But Marc Spagnuolo does it exactly the way I do. If it makes it into a video and I’m recommending it, it’s because I know it’s good! It’s something I’ve used before. And it’s something I’ve used before I was ever paid to talk about it.
      I saw Stumpy recommending a miter gauge by Harvey. They sent me the same miter gauge for free, and it was crap. Too many design flaws. Couldn’t cut anything with any accuracy.
      After testing mine, I called Harvey back and told them I wouldn’t be putting on my channel.
      But Stumpy, who is paid a lot of money by Harvey, gave it high praise.
      I saw numerous others call him out on that, including a fantastic unbiased video by Mark that showed it was terrible.
      Funny thing is rather than let it go Harvey & Stumpy doubled down, and they paid Stumpy to do a rebuttal video.
      Conveniently, Harvey sent him a modified miter jig, that eliminated the problems we all knew about. And he proceeded to give them high praise.
      That was a couple of years ago, and that incident was disgusting. I decided then I wasn’t going to do any more sponsorships.
      Too many influencers will flat out lie. And the consumer, like you, will easily be fooled into thinking they are completely honest.
      I know many many UA-camrs who do even worse than that with tools.
      That’s why after a lot of thought, I decided on this method. I’ll just approach the people I already know and like. Those who I know make great tools. And those tools I’ve already paid full price for myself and have used for years.
      I was just inquiring in this video what folks thought about that approach. And if you are also a UA-camr, if you thought it was smart or dumb?
