I am a big Pete fan... and i'm currently a proud 379 owner. But before I owned my Pete, i was a company driver and ran Volvos across the country for 3 years. I have to say that I enjoyed my time in a Volvo. They are good trucks.. what you are saying about them leads me to believe you've never ran one.
Well I tell ya what, first off that is a beautiful Volvo. I love the color and room. I've never driven one of those I-shift's but after watching this I want too. And finally I must say you have a beautiful home and the mountain behind it would be awesome to see when you look out the window. Keep up the great video's and Thank you for sharing this, and by the way I'm American and have drove over 2 million miles with every manual trans there is and I'm ready to try on of these out. Great video!
I am going back to work for a previous employer under the condition that he buys me the truck of my choice. HE DID!! A brand new 2007 Volvo VT830 625 D16 2250 ft. lb. NO DPF filter - pre emission - motor. Will post videos in a month or so. 18 speed RTLO22918B He actually bought (2) same specs. 291 wheelbase. Mine is BLACK (Sable Met.) other is ORANGE (Amber Pearl Met.) adding Tri-Pac APU and a pusher lift axle for heavy haul 3 door enclosed headache rack and 2 step tool boxes CAN'T WAIT!!!
When I first got a FH with ishift I was sceptical. Three years later & I would,nt drive nothing but. My fuel returns have improved , Its a joy in heavy traffic & takes ALOT of the stress outa day to day trucking. Definatley the way forward.

Very nice video, great song of engine brake and I like your I-Shift transmission. Good trip with your very nice VT-880, Réjean of Riviere Du Loup,Quebec,CANADA
This is right by Kamloops BC for those wondering, the first road they are on is Dallas Drive which turns into Hook Road, then onto the Trans Canada Highway, then the Monte Creek exit, and then back towards Kamloops along Barnhartvale Road
The filming guy, is the owner, and yeah he is Dutch. In fact his name is Jan Steijns. He used to run Steijns Transport, Middle East driving. In 2004 or 2005 he sold all of his trucks and moved to Canada.
At 5.10, i didn't know that the cabine of these truck is so good! One couchette, one mini living room with a table, it lacks just a mini kitchen with a little sink.
We build cars and trucks for OUR roads, the way WE drive and to maintain a bond with our HERITAGE. Europeans have long since designed their laws and vehicle regulations to preclude competition from us. That said, most Americans LOVE cars, trucks, & motorcycles, no matter where they are made. We don't share your stereotyping and prejudices...or YOUR apparent arrogance. Peace from the deep South of the U.S. of A!
We get Deliveries and ship out via Fed Ex Freight where I work and the driver usually shows up with a Volvo daycab. It's a very distinct sounding truck, I can tell the diff. from all the Freightliners and Fords that pass through the warehouse officepark all day.
@Iceeeen And it really is an amazing gearbox. You can never shift as fast as it does. And it always chose the right gear, love it when you are driving at the hills in Norway.
@da7nesman and you are absolutely correct about it becoming a simple task to operate a manual transmission once experience is gained. i also wouldn't argue with you that they provie a better maintenance of control and stability over the vehicle. keeps ya from gettin' distracted and doin' other things while behind the wheel as well ;)
There's nothing better than a Volvo!!! Volvo makes the best automatic gearbox and engines My Volvo fh12 has 480,000 km and I had no problems with the transmission or engine! the only problem that I had on Volvo is whit fuel tank and that their standard disease!
@jarl44 I'm just starting myself and am using an 07' with a 13 spd. I must say, it is a pleasure, and ease to drive. I didn't think I'd like it but it's fantastic!
to continue, the 2008 volovos are apparently notorius for the electrical issues, i talked with a lot of other drivers at the shop that had same probs, they have so many rentals out that once that had to get me a rental from their competetor, and it was a freightliner lol. Volvo has spent more on parts and labor on my truck than its worth. Its a volvo 730 2008.
I know Volvo makes a 16l engine. I have one. They dropped available horsepower from 625 to 600 HP and 2250 to 2050 torque in the 2008 model with the 2007 emission engines. I did not know they got rid of the exhaust brake with the new emissions. I do not have the DPF filter on mine (thankfully) and I have the 625/2250 motor. Thanks for answering.
@ryanstrainis I like it when a kid is teach me about my job, you can shift it without the clutch because it is not synchronized gearbox i like to see you shifting a synchronized gearbox without the clutch...
The automated transmissions also have a great advantage in areas where you are constantly changing gears, like for instance the Norwegian fjords. I for one live and truck around Iceland and in one trip that is about 450-500 km (280-310 mi) I probably have to change gears a few hundred times if not thousands because there are a lot of hills, tight turns and single line bridges to cross etc. Let me tell you, on that route I'd much rather have an automatic than any manual on the market.
OK... can you explain a few things please. #1. Who makes 610 HP engine? #2. You tell the driver the engine brake is on the right of the steering stalk. My volvo book only shows the 6 position stalk switch as Cummins option. Volvo motor with VEB (volvo engine brake) is a 2 position switch on dash first position is exhaust brake only and second position is both exhaust brake and VEB combine. NICE VIDEO thanks for posting
@briskrogue I am With You when it comes to the automatics but american built vehicles are quality built vehicles and we take pride in our work especially when it comes to manufacturing...So dont Start getting on our country sir!!!
Volvo makes a 16l engine. And the six position engine brake is avalible with this model. There is no exhust brake on the 16l because of the emission system on models from 2007 and up.
@n8bolton Thanks for your input! I was just about to say that the truck the guy is driving is "smoothe" but driving the manual trucks seem alot more fun. I never drove a semi, but i drive stick cars and jeeps. when you become experienced driving stick, it becomes like second nature and is very enjoyable. I feel i Have more control of a vehicle with manual trans.
i-shift can stand up fine. It's the lack of control on the icy roads that's the only real problem. I personally wouldn't care for one, they don't last as long and they're way more expensive to fix than a manual transmission as well.
okay, never heard any one here in sweden got to mutch problem with Ishift. They even use i shift in the woods with timber trucks (don't know if that's the right word). But when u had that problem next time if u dirve an Ishift. put it in to manual and the gears will lock. and only change when u wan't it to or when the rpms is so low the truck will die if u don't.
seat belts? i have a volvo with ZF meritor freedomline12speed and cummins ISX, I absolutely love it. i dont know if i would ever buy anything other than cummins again. this is a sweet truck very nice interior.
My uncle has a trucking business & his trucks mostly have manuals in them. I have actually tried an automatic, but once you're used to manual it's hard to make the transition.
nice truck i want to buy one but i am hearing alot of bad things about the d16 engine can you tell me how yours has been to you and any problems with it??
@MrLowAltitude well, those are some pretty favorable points for the autos. i still wouldnt want one, just for the sake of my own pleasure and cost to maintain. plus an automatic transmission is just one more computerized gadget to go wrong, if ya ask me.
Plus, you actually cán control the i-shift system, in manual mode the gear box gives as much control as a real manual... it just takes getting used to.
@imaginacion2009 The oldest one at my work has nearly a million kilometres on it and nothing wrong with it yet. Tuned FH550 (one of the first with I-shift)
hello mate i have a question what brand you have the front bar, and where you bought it. looking for a long time already and I can not find anything interesting thanks for
@MrLowAltitude It is a fact that american's tend to turn there back on the first sight of anything "modern" or "up-to-date" because they feel that older technology would be more reliable but thats only a portion of American drivers because I am Actually one of the many american drivers who drive a Volvo Vnl780 I-shift and I'm Very comfortable with it, It's not all about the truck , It's about the driver in it and They're suppose to make the most of what they drive....
@wtfmanicanthaveaname It look's like if I ever got a Volvo, it would be prior to 2002 when you could spec a Series 60. A Freightliner would do just as good. Now adays everything has a multiplexed electrical system. I guess next time spec a Cummin's motor instead of the Volvo motor. What make/model of tire do you use for your steer axle? Some tires are better than others. You may have a bad/loose wheel bearing? You can always rotate the tire, or flip them on the rim if nondirectional tire.
Don't know about the brutal Canadian weather you are talking about, but in Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland men are using them without any problems, can't see Canada bringing any worse weathers than those countries can bring when combined.
@wtfmanicanthaveaname Then it didn't go into 2nd. It just showed 2nd gear that does NOT mean its in 2nd gear. If it was you would have wrecked or twisted the drive shaft off. Next time re-phrase your comment with better clarity
maybe something was wrong with the transmission. My brothers company only got Ishift and his is a volvo fh 480 with 60 tons dayly. No problems at al. And at my company we got some Ishifts to with diffrent waight and also there no problem.
one example, truck is 3 years old, first 1.5 year 6.1 US mpg.then volvo changed the injectors and the last 1.5 years i'm down to 5.1 US mpg.last week it went in AGAIN,and no its even down to 4.5 mpg.and the list goes on and on!
@rashy91729 Si, pero no tenes una palanca de cambios en el piso, a eso me refiero ^^ En Europa les encanta los vehiculos automaticos y aca es todo lo contrario :)
@studpuppy69 tryed several brand tires and checked the wheel bearing, i use mercury balancers, the problm seems to have finally worked itself out at 340k miles, was a problem from day 1 hen brand new. Ill give it to volvo for being the smoothest ride and most comfortable sleeper (model 730) and seats, at least the wide leather ones, drove a volvo with skinny canvas ones that wasnt that comfortable. the engines suck though. volvo with cummins only has the tire/minor yet annoying electric probs.
@wtfmanicanthaveaname also forgot to mention my newest problem, and now that im living it i notice it on more than 75% of the volvos i see on the road, is the circuit boards for the LED visor lights shorting out, im down to 2/5 today, yesterday i had 3 working and the 2 that work today didnt work, sometimes i have only 1. I got a 1999 international that rides rough as hell and has 1.2 million on it and besides PM all ive had to replace was the A/C pump, and the bags between sleeper and frame.
@studpuppy69 its exactly what happened on more than one occasion, call me a liar all you want but i drive the pile of shit and was there several times, and happened to the o/o once as well. There was no slamming of anything when switched to nuetral, it just leveled the RPMs to idle and coasted. Im not a mech, i cant tell you whats happening inside but if you really wanna know call TEC volvo/mack in fontana CA, they reprogrammed 3 times to get it right, also did it to their mech on a test drive.
i got a volvo D16 in mine, engine is awsome, but its been an eletrical nightmare and volvo mechanics cant fix it. in the 1.5 years ive had it, its spent 7 monthes in the shop while i drive rental POS's. including 1 that was a day cab!
I am a big Pete fan... and i'm currently a proud 379 owner. But before I owned my Pete, i was a company driver and ran Volvos across the country for 3 years. once you drive a volvo you understand that American made trucks belong in a museum

At 5.10, i didn't know that the cabine of these truck is so good! One couchette, one mini living room with a table, it lacks just a mini kitchen with a little sink.
This is a nice truck, saw one some years ago in Sweden . I Love Us Trucks .
Probably the best looking truck I have ever seen! Why can't we have this in Europe.. :(
I love the VT880! :) nice house and the mobilehome! :)

Volvo's I-Shift is the best gearbox in the world !!!
I think the European trucks "mostly cab-overs" are really nice. Lots of power, and they have the auto trans down!!!

No safety belt in canadians trucks?
love volvo!!!
My uncle has a trucking business & his trucks mostly have manuals in them. I have actually tried an automatic, but once you're used to manual it's hard to make the transition.
Our trucks in Sweden are the best ones.
in abbotsford at magnum they have nice moosebars for the vt880

What happens when your going down a hil and you need to downshift to a lower gear and have the jakes run you down the hill with a 49k load?
just super!
how does the i-shift stand up to the brutal canadian weather?
hello mate i have a question what brand you have the front bar, and where you bought it. looking for a long time already and I can not find anything interesting thanks for
I'm pretty sure the guy in the passenger seat is a native dutchman.
i think many amerikan truck driver don´t know how nice it is to drive a automatic truck
I-shift is the best thing ever happen to truckers
@strumem90 hey you would know alot more than me im guessing. thanks for clearing that up tho
yes, a automatic transmission I-shift, 12 speed by volvo, AT2412C transmission model............. greetings
I heard that the i-Shift doesn't like cold weather?

What's the speed limit in Canada? In Sweden and most parts of Europ it's 80 km/h and 90 on motorways.

@bpmuppet72 yea they think just because you have more tires you can stop faster
What is that hood ornament on the front?
@strumem90 I honestly thought that Volvo put the Cummins in their trucks
its so smoos =D
I can't believe it!!! Lucenzo from Danza Kuduro driving a fucking truck!!!
@bigwoolleypenguin A truck in 22,5 L and a v10 engine?
volvos can get very loud uphill in the cabin :D

listen to the cummins purr
