To be fair, the engineers that designed that fan did a relatively decent job. If you can take it apart and service it, the engineers wanted to provide you a product that was capable of lasting beyond its expected life. It's expected life is determined by the people at the top like the CEO. They likely instructed the factory workers to use just enough oil to last its service life, and no more. You can't escape planned obsolescence anymore. The good thing is you can service the product. It's a pain in the butt for the average user, but all the well crafted fans of the past also required regular service. Schools should offer classes on basic home maintenance. It's ridiculous that people are left in the dark about basic home maintenance and are encouraged to dump devices that just need a little TLC.
That is a completely valid point. I have worked on plenty of fans that were much more difficult to service than this one. My grandfather told me there used to be classes like that in schools years and years ago. It's highly unfortunate that those courses were removed. I've lost count of how many people I've encountered that don't even know how to change a light bulb.
I have two of these fans, one clip and one desk stand fan. the desk fan I use in the bathroom to help defog the mirror. this reminded me to clean and oil it before I put it away for the season. It really is a crappy fan, but they move just enough air to be nice at night.
What a cool fun project to do. Mine farted doing the same thing. It got really bad so I got an air king from Amazon. I might still do this to my old one just for fun.
@@JordanU I got a new powered screwdriver recently and the stupid thing went out after a month I had to re lubracant everything and finally got it working. My point is it's a shame they don't make things like they used to
The housing on this is identical to a late '80s early '90s Tatung clip fan I have that was made in Taiwan-same housing and motor as the Tatung LQ-6AMY you reviewed 8 months ago. It seems like whatever OEM makes these Comfort Zone fans could be the same one that Tatung started using when they moved their production from Taiwan to China in the mid '90s. Maybe Tatung ended up selling their entire fan division to Comfort Zone seeing as they're not in the business anymore, though they do still sell a few generic DC models in Taiwan from a different OEM. Unfortunate to see how poor the quality of this one is though. When I bought the Tatung clip fan cheap on eBay it still ran decently before servicing despite being in rough shape, and now after a service it has a spin-down time as good as any sleeve bearing fan can have and because it's a small Tatung the blades are well-balanced too.
Comfort Zone is a decent brand but they have a lot of issues, from those quad pod stands to the pitch of the blades on the 12" fans, last I know from 200?- 2012 they made those fans decent with bladesets that resembled those on the kaz fans which were thicker and sturdier. IDK how lemont does it with these cheap fans
@@JordanU These fans were branded under i think 3 different brands: Mainstays (which is a Walmart brand) , Comfort Zone shown here, For Living (which is a brand of a store in Canada called Canadian Tire) ,and there is probably others but those are the ones i think of. @Door Knobs, Levers, Closers Etc means that he/she has the For Living Version of this fan. I myself, also have a For Living version of these fans. Also one more thing, these fans come with both a stand and a clip.
I swear this brand has so many problems. I own their pedestal fans and their quad pod bases are awful. This fan seems poorly built too. Average comfort zone
@@JordanUTrue. Their pedestal fan units are ok fans other than the crappy blade balance and cheaply built pedestal. What do you think about this particular s’est fan btw

LOL Bro i got the same one but it's not out of balanced but it doesn't move much air at all good video glad you got it working
Not good bro the quality control isn't right.
Yeah, you get what you pay for.
Thank you! I fixed my fan and it didn't cost me a penny! It runs like brand new! 😍
Love the way you say fee-uns!
So when is the servicing for the SMC/Midea 12" table fan coming out
I'm not sure.
Comfort Zone fans are the BEST 👍 Gracias finally I know how to open the desk fan 🫡
You're welcome.
Does it matter if the hot goes to the switch or the moter black wire.

@@JordanU hey I have a similar fan that idk the brand of and it has a big twist knob on the back with no sign of screws, any idea how to get it off.
What type of Cord does this fan use ? I live in Finland and we have Type F plug (Schuko plug.) Does this go in my outlet ?
I don't know, it's just a standard 120v US plug.
@@JordanU Oh so it does not connect to finlands outlets, yall have those 2pin and 3 pin thin outlet sloths, we have 2 pins and they are rounded.

Comfort Zone seems to be a hit or miss. Some of the stuff I've worked with from them was decent, others were awful.
I buy those adapters to put in cigarette lighters then plug this fan into my truck cause it has no ac.... I love it
OK
I have For Living 6 in Clip Fan

@@LightsandFansGuy1999 Thanks for letting me know. I wouldn't be surprised if they were sold under even more names than that.
