Sad day when I heard of his passing. my best memory is seeing them in Toronto on their farewell tour.... ended the night with grace, too august 14 2016.......... greatly be missed.
This is heart breaking. We knew this was coming, but we aren't ready for this...so so talented. and one of Canada's greatest icons..we lost a good one. My heart goes out to his family and friends... RIP Gord
When Gord died the entire country of Canada was shut down and closed due to a death in the family. An icon doesn’t do him justice. He meant so much to so many. GBM is a horrible death sentence that takes people away from us way too soon. I have that same diagnosis and continue to fight every day to keep myself MYSELF. When he passed I openly cried for days wondering how I’m still here. I’m just a nobody! We lost a dear friend and great part of our family
I'm an old man who's unfortunately never had the pleasure of visiting Canada. However, Gord and the Hip brought Canada's vibrance and spirit to me via the music. A great life, ended far too soon. A sad day.
The day we all hoped would never come has arrived. All I can say is THANK YOU Gord, for all the great music and memories! You and The Hip are one of the reasons it makes me proud to say I’m A Canadian. You truly were Canada’s band and we are all richer for it. Sadly you were taken from us way too young. Rest In Peace my friend.
Rockstars aren’t supposed to be role models- but Gord managed both. The music, his activism. and his deep pride for Canada speaks as to why our entire country is in mourning.Thank you
I'll miss Gord and the Hip so much. Their music and shows were a big part of my life for so long. I'm so glad I moved to Northern NY so I was able to become aware of this great band by listening to 105.7 FM in Kingston. Over the years I have seen them many times and have all their albums. We have had so many great times drinking beer and listening to The Hip. And also times of introspection while listening to them while driving somewhere. Today I feel the same sadness that Canada is feeling collectively.
To be at work listening to a country station when you get the news is the worst. Heres to raising a glass to Gordie Baby. We love you man, we cherish you, rest well, rest easy.
I had no idea how much this band and Gord Downie meant to me until he was gone. You will be missed and your incredible influence to all Canadians will be remembered in our hearts forever.
gord, you were the bomb, your music was a big part of my life from the time I was young, through the transitional times into a teenager and an adult. you have always been there for me. what you did for our country last summer was so selfless, it made me realize you were someone that I only wish I could be as good as. its tough to lose a haro
Rest In Peace Gord We've lost a GREAT CANADIAN ICON Your memories & music will live on in all who loved you & Tragically Hip. It's a sad day! Heartfelt Condolences to the family & friends. :-(
My best memories of Gord and the other boys would have to be when my family and I were on long road trips and their music would come on and my dad would turn the song up a notch :)
I listened to a playlist based off of the Hip setlist from Rogers Arena in Vancouver on July 24th, 2016. When I did it was on the date of Carrie Underwood at that same city and venue, just over the weekend on May 25th! In emotionally reconnecting with the Hip and Gord, and that metaphorical bridge between the past and then-present, citing words from this video, I imagined Gord saying these words to me: "It's just 'the door'...to that same roof which me and my Hip boys played under. Carrie Underwood is waiting behind that stage for you and all of those other fans. It's cool. You can go. I'll be fine." ❤️
RIP GORD. MY TEARS ARE FREELY AND OPENING FALLING TO HEAR OF YOUR PASSING. NYE:WEH (THANK YOU) FOR DEFINING MY LIFE AND WALKING HAND IN HAND WITH THE SADDEST PARTS AND HAPPIEST PARTS WITH ME WETHER YOU KNEW IT OR NOT. YOU TOUCHED MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WITH YOUR LYRICS. YOU WILL FOREVER BE LOVED AND SORELY MISSED. XOXOXOXO REST NOW BEAUTIFUL SOUL

The beautiful lull,
The dangerous tug
We get to feel small
From high up above
And after a glimpse
Over the top
The rest of the world
Becomes a gift shop
The pendulum swings
For the horse like a man
Out over the rim
Is ice cream to him
The beautiful lull,
The dangerous tug
We get to feel small
But not out of place at all
We're forced to bed
But we're free to dream
All us human extras,
All us herded beings
And after a glimpse
Over the top
The rest of the world
Becomes a gift shop
I don't know what to believe,
Sometimes I even forget
And if it's a lie,
Terrorists made me say it
The beautiful lull,
The dangerous tug
We get to feel small
From high up above
From high up above
From high up above
From high up above
From high up above
