Great trip Bryan! Nice to see you and Nathan getting out together! Fun to hear the crunching of the leaves… I guess the trail is really well marked on the trees… I’m used to being able to see the dirt trail among the brush… but you had the ground mostly covered with leaves! Interesting to see the clouds and fog the one day, too bad it got so windy that night. Beautiful forest! Enjoyed the video, Jen 👍👍🍁🍂🍁🧡
Thanks Jennifer! Even with the leaves most of the time you can see an indentation where the trail is. The fog creates a mysterious appearance and feel to the forest.
I was thinking of you guys Sunday night after T-day. The wind-chills were pretty nasty up here in Carroll county, I figured you were feeling it big time, sleeping outside. Really enjoyed the video.....that's a great tradition you have. Here's to many many more! Tom
Most excellent way to spend thanksgiving weekend. The forest colors a visual gift. Appreciate how you make time to recognize the art of the trees. The imagination of natures art. I especially take note of the trees when I get out in the woods. Especially the tree burls. Wish I was there with you. Thank as always for sharing
Thanks for taking us along on another great trip. Love the views when the trees have lost their leaves. One of those trees looked like a duck head to me.🤣
Another great video, Bryan! Always nice when Nathan can join you. Loved the fog on Day 3. Makes it kind of eerie. Lol. Beautiful hike! Thanks, as always, for taking us with you! 😊
Loved this video. Back when I was younger my friends and I would take a backpacking trip every year on the Friday-to-Sunday after Thanksgiving. This reminds me of those wonderful trips. The weather was always unpredictable on those trips!
Thanks Woody! We've been doing this Thanksgiving trip for about 30 years and you are right the weather can be beautiful blue skies or rain, even snow at times.
Sorry I am so late to comment. Loved this trip with the trek to Wayah Bald. I was there years ago on a sunny day but one of those typical Smoky Mtn days with changing cloud layers and most of my view was straight down! Thank you for braving the fog and giving me another peak!
awesome adventure Bryan. So good that you and Nathan got out again together. Very foggy for a while , it set a special mood for sure. Happy New Year to you.
I used a tarp from 1998 until I purchased the Duomid about 1.5 years ago. There are trade offs, but the Duomid performs very well in high winds, although part of my son's issue with the wind was the small stakes he was using. It helped that I was using 7.5 inch MSR Ground Hog stakes on the four corners and 6 inch Zpacks Sonic stakes for the other tie-outs.
Thanks Doug! My son set up the tarp on a logging road that intersected the trail so we could eat lunch under in the dry. It's a tarp for a hammock so it's pretty long.
Nice video, Bryan! I haven’t been back to Wayah since they put the top back on the tower, which tells you its been awhile. I need to get back up there.
Always enjoy hiking vicariously with you. Too bad the clouds were sitting on when you got to the tower. Not many sights that day. I like the fact that your tarp has its own attached sack. What brand and model is it? That looks like something I could take bike packing. Thanks!
Thanks Chris! Actually it's not a stuff sack. i just stuff part of the tarp into the peak of the tarp and then put it in a stuff sack. There is a wire that holds the vent open and this keeps the wire from getting too bent. The tarp is a Mountain Laurel Designs Duomid.
Another nice traditional Thanksgiving getaway with your son. Always enjoy the scenery but your editing and music really tell the story. The rock tower at 9:30 looks a lot like the one at Flagg "mountain" or Cheaha here in Alabama, both built by the CCC. Looks like the critter bag hanging telekinesis stills needs some work 🤪
Thanks John! Never thought about it, but Wayah Bald Tower does look like the one at Flagg Mountain. I'll have to talk with my GoPro about cooperating with me on the telekinesis.
It would have been nice to video the views from Wayah Bald Tower, but we have both been there several times and it's a great view. Good catch! I missed that I said east when it should have west.

Thanks Tom! The wind was nasty that Sunday night, especially camping on a ridge line. Even on Monday it was windy.
Awesome video
Thanks Dave!
Another great father- son trip. I used to hunt back in there years ago . Nice country. Thank you very much for another wonderful video.
Thanks Mark! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Man! I love seeing that kind of deep blue sky you had on the last day. Gorgeous!
It sure is beautiful when a storm blows through and leaves crisp, blue skies.

Thank you very much! Yes, the trees create amazing art against the sky, especially when the leaves are off.

Thanks Caroline! I know which one you're talking about.

Thank you! Yes, the fog does create an eerie experience.

Best time of the year for hiking and backpacking!
Yes it is!

No problem, glad you enjoyed the video. On a clear day the view from Wayah Bald is outstanding.
Thanks Bryan for sharing your adventure with us. Excellent job on your video. Look forward to your next one !

Thank you very much Danny!
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Nicole! Yes, the fog does add special mood. Happy New Year to you also.
I enjoyed watching, Bryan. Happy holidays to you and yours!
Thanks tangenttrails! Merry Christmas to you too.
Another awesome video, too bad Nathen got wet but I'm sure it won't be the last. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Lauren! No it wasn't the first time and it won't be the last time.
Did Winding Stairs to NOC in a section over a couple of trips. There was a lot of blowdown between Tellico and NOC last year.
This section of the AT and the Bartram Trail were in great shape.
I stopped using my duomind in favor of a 10 x 10 tarp. You have been giving me reasons to try it again. I did like it a lot

Always inspiring! As a fellow hiker of similar age I am in awe of your pace and length of stride.
Thanks Robb! It helps to walk everyday, go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week and do a little yoga 3 or 4 times a week.
No behind the scenes magic, no superior genetics. Hard work and determination. That is more inspiration. I think I’ll do some yoga now, thanks Brian.
Thanks Robb Cairl. :)
Enjoyed the video. What was up with that Eno tarp looked like it spanned the trail?
Thanks Doug! My son set up the tarp on a logging road that intersected the trail so we could eat lunch under in the dry. It's a tarp for a hammock so it's pretty long.

Great trip Bryan
Hey Wes, thanks! Maybe after the holidays we can put together a trip.
Thanks
Again you're welcome Mark!
I Subscribed to your UA-cam channel Bryan. Keep in touch my dear friend. Sending you greetings from Toronto. Travel safe 🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️👍👍🥰🇺🇲
Thank you very much!
Your video SEO score good. Carry on sir
Thanks Sojib090!
Does this route make a loop?
No this is an end to end hike. We had two cars.
Too bad you missed the views at Wayah Bald tower. In the beginning you said Winding Stair Gap was East of Franklin. Actually it is West of Franklin.

Thank Bolle! Glad you are enjoying my videos.
