    I'm an American living and doing business in Nigeria.
    1. I have tried export and import business, very costly, but can be great.
    2. I've done the school business, Schools can be great, but stressful on many levels. Schools take time to build, and if your trying to introduce developed country teaching concepts, it may be difficult. I've found many teachers to be poorly trained, unfocused, and unwilling to change some of their teaching practices in becoming better teachers even with free training.
    3. My restaurants were ok, as long as I stuck to African dishes. But I found it strange, that most of my customers wanted to visit America, but found it difficult to even eat or try western world food.

      @msaylonna 3 роки тому +4

      @@didiash I believe the USA offers a wide variety of food dishes from the many different cultures of people living and doing business in their country. Personally, I've never been to Greece, Italy, Israel, China, Mexico, or Jamaica etc. But because of these nationalities living in my country, I was given an opportunity to taste foods from these cultures.
      So in my opinion, to say the USA has tasteless food is somewhat an insult to these immigrants that has brought the flavor of their country foods under the umbrella of the USA restaurant food industry. My husband, and children who are NIGERIAN loves all kinds of foods.
      So in my opinion, no offense to anyone.....The USA has some of the best selections of foods, I have ever tasted. Simply because of their large population of nationalities and cultures.

    • @didiash
      @didiash 3 роки тому

      @@msaylonna like you just mentioned many nationalities chinese,Italian, Mexico etc they are exactly what they are selections from those countries not American food. Yes its served in America but it's not American. They are many other nationalities that I dont like their food and that's just a preference based on what I am use too.
      America food for the majority is burgers and fries...add in mash potatoes,mac n cheese, corn bread and collard greens,grits what else is there to eat?

      @@msaylonnayes I agreed with you ma'am developed countries like the USA, UK have varieties of food.I was just sitting and discussing with a friend sometime ago I said to him I think I prefer western food more and he asked why I said we have limited food varieties we have too carbohydrate in our diet and very little percentage of protein and vegetable and this is not good at all unlike the Western world when have a wide list to choose and play with from oats,flakes,dailies,gains,,just to name a few.i get tired eating the same thing everyday if it's not beans, it's rice or swallow lol.Most of my diet in mornings is Western like flakes oats sussuages,beacons, beans I think I am hooked on it though it is expensive but I manage to get by.if I had my way I will be out of this country fast

    Snail farming may not be the first thing that jumps to mind when thinking of profitable businesses to start in Nigeria. However, the annual demand for snail in Nigeria is about 9.6 million kg annually. The international trade in snails is flourishing in Europe and North America. I have a consultant that could handle this aspect if you are interested.

    Rather than exporting raw agricultural produce how about processing , packaging and exporting finished products. Take for instance Cocoa , one tonne of cocoa cost 570,000 naira , but one chocolate bar that weight less than 250 g cost 3000 naira . People will make more money , jobs created and farmers will be richer if we start investing in companies that transform our agricultural products to finished goods before exporting. 1 tonne of charcoal shipped out of Nigeria cost 300,000 naira ( and they have destroyed all our rain forest , cut down all the trees) but when it reaches Dubai or China they will wrap it call it shisha hookah and sell it for 2dollar per KG .

    A different way to come up with viable business ideas is to ask "What viable business ideas can i come up with in order to provide solutions to many of the problems out there?" Go for business ideas where you can deliver products/services directly into the hands of people without govt or business middlemen. Few of the businesses he mentioned there is a no-no for someone who has been out of Nigeria for long. Avoid capital intensive businesses or one that rely too much on power supply. Cost of diesel for generator alone can kill a new business.

    • @Phrankleen13
      @Phrankleen13  5 років тому +6

      You can't and shouldn't say certain business is a no-no for someone who's been out of Nigeria. As long as they are able and willing to research, plan and give it what it takes, success will be achieved....hence why i said you must be part of the business process from start to finish.

What would be great is if you could generate your own electricity through solar and sell the excess back to the National Grid or to customers who'd like it

    You have made wonderful points but from my own perspective, Nigeria is a corrupt country where business ideas are killed either because of inadequate infrastructure, government of the people for the people, mentally blinded people, selfish people .. ...... too many to talk about. I pray that whatever business one want to establish will be successful but u have to have it in mind that u have too many factors that are gonna come to u as a challenge . And the people u are gonna be dealing with here who are the Nigerians are gonna be the major threat because of selfishness and corruption. They must find a means to bring u down. if u are in diaspora and have something good doing, I suggest , u buy land in Nigeria and save the rest of ur money , involve yourself with international businesses and forget about coming here to invest because humans here are wolves in human form, so nothing good here to encourage ur business before u waste ur hard earned money. ( personal aggrandizement, government of the people for the people, mental blindness, greediness) , pray u won't be assassinated so they can acquire your business) . Thanks. ... Be ready to fight battles if u decide to establish here and two things will be involved, either u loose your money or you stand but it's under probability. Thanks

    From most of the comments I have read on this expose I think the best business to start in Nigeria would be in the energy sector (solar energy panels)if all its parts and components can be manufactured right there in Nigeria to cut out the cost of importing .The sun is free and it shines like hell in naija ,the only maintenance of solar panels is cleaning it-solar panels cleaning firm .if there's is constant power in that country productivity of every business sector will go up,crime will reduce, you tubers will be happy, CCTV everywhere will kick into effect, pollution will stop by all those silly generators, and that bastard NEPA will die.There are so much endless benefits people will have from solar panels manufactured here in Nigeria.

      Ikechukwu ezeokwelume starting a restaurant business has so many demands like other people in it asking you to join their bloody cult or you quit and if you don't it's bad news and another thing is they might put juju in front of your restaurant so that you should not make head way and also set back falls in to your other sources of income, then the last one might be that you might not even sell at all naturally because people go to the already existing restaurant
