Literally laughed out loud when the dog entered the scene. Never ever seen a dog shooting and totally didn't expect this after such a calm introduction about precise and dedicated placement and everything 🤣
I'm assuming when you got a totally black image, you must have been on like F10 and 1/200 and ISO 100 or something like that? Sorry if I missed what your final settings were. In a room like yours, you would probably see some images down to 1/80, F2, ISO 16k or whatever. Are we trying to "force" the image to be black, or do you just pick the settings you really want and hope it ends up black?
Amazing how you hold the camera so steady without a tripod and view your shot without laying physically flat on the ground. They are heavy and it's not easy to do. Another fab video thank you. Beanie such a good girl 💗
Would it work if you was to put a kicker light to one side with the key light overhead? Or to put a 2nd on the background to get that separation? Learning so much from your videos! Thank you keep up the great work
Just came across your channel. Loving the vibe and energy 👍🏻 can you tell us what that bracket is on the stand in the video? Thanks and keep up the great work.
Hi, fantastic video. Just a quick question. Where did you get the backdrops from and how to do overcome damage from the dogs either tears or dirt etc... I know if it happens you can just cut it but as you need the floor layer could be costly keep replacing the roll. Thanks 😊
Hi Stephen, Thank you so much for your kind words 🙏 We have to cut a piece off the backdrop after each photo session, the other backdrops we use are wipeable so those we can just clean down. Hope that helps 😊
Thank you so much for your kind feedback 🙏 I think you'll find this video super useful ua-cam.com/video/3O-bm3nCiHA/v-deo.html It covers animals & flashlights 👌
HI Jess, can u see somewhere at your platform/YT how you postprocess your pics. For example fromt his session? is is available at your paid membership?
New photographer here! Thanks for the video. Very informative. What is the material of your backdrop? I noticed that it is not getting wrinkled. Thanks!
This is a great tutorial! What I love about it, is that I also have a rather tight studio set up in my living room, and I always felt a bit "poor" about it. To see Jess do the same - even if for the last time - made me feel a lot better! Cute Beanie Performance. Jess, would it be possible to also link the photo paper background roll in the Item list? Brand and Size. Thanks you!
@@ThatPhotographySpot I know it's a bit outside the scope of photography but if you want to do another video about training tips with Beanie I would love to see it. She is so full of energy. I love seeing her.
Hiya just starting my studio work i dont have a big studio so just wanting to do it basic from home , I have ordered a black back drop and 1 continuous light soft box but it is only 135 w will that be strong enough ? Do you have to use a flash on your camera with it to ? And do all other light sources need to be of in the room while shooting sorry for all the questions im determined to not mess it up xx
Thank you for making this great studio lighting tutorial. However, is there anyway to avoid harsh shadow cast on the paper background (usually at the bottom) when we take full body shots of a dog?
You will always have a shadow from casting any light on a subject but you could use a modifier such as a soft box to diffuse the light preventing such a harsh shadow. Without seeing an image for reference and knowing your setup this is hard to comment on further but I hope that helps 😊
@@ThatPhotographySpot Thank you for the suggestion. I was referring to the horizontal line, across the paper, behind the dog. Not the shadow of the dog. How do you use lights to remove the horizontal line?
Awesome video! I am venturing into pet photography .. my question is: how were you adjusting the light during the photo shoot- with the settings on the camera or the physical light from the camera?
There's two ways to adjust the light with this kind of studio work. You can either use the camera by adjusting the aperture or the lights themselves by adjusting the power of them. Hope this helps 😀
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I see you are using a mirroless camera, how do you cope with the slow AF when using small apertures (f8, f16) and low isos?
Thank you for the video. It was very helpful and you are great with the dog! I had one questions: I see that you had the continuous light (overhead butterfly light), but are you also using an off camera strobe? I saw the flash and thought I may be missing something. Thank you in advance for responding! Love your work!
Thank you for sharing... I would love to have a tiny little portret studio like this in like our garage or somthing. What would you say is the minimal space your need to be able to do this? I was thinking 3mx3m/4m at least... for 2 lights maybe.. but liking this one light setup as well! 🙂
Fantastic tutorial once again. Have you covered in a previous tutorial about having it dark then add light? Never knew this and will be trying this today! Thank you once again.
The softbox is the modifier, there needs to be something to create the light for it to modify. That can be a continuous bulb or a flash. We use flash 🙌
@@ThatPhotographySpot First off I want to thank you for your channel. I finally got a speedlight and umbrella modifier. I've been using my Sony A7 IV with an 85 1.8 lens. Camera settings are F9, 1/200 at ISO 1600. Photos seem sharp but not as soft as the photos you're getting with the one light setup. I had the speedlight on half power, with a black foldable backdrop. This is more difficult than I thought it would be but I'm determined

Thank you so much for this and all your wonderful videos. I am new to dog portrait photography and you have helped me a ton. In this video I appreciate you keeping the soft box small because I am also in a small space . Also thank you for going into a bit more on why you placed the light where you did. If I’m honest I could do with even more detail on that in the studio setup with one or more lights. I am having a little trouble with my shadows and doing a lot of work in photoshop.
