Red is overrated
I always liked the idea of Red being the strongest too. Also, I always wished that Hilbert/Hilda had a secret battle in BW2 akin to Red's battle in Gen 2.
Yeah I wanted that too happen so bad as a kid! With the memory link feature they could have literally taken your team from the first game. Or they could have made up a team if they wanted too. At least we got that one Pokémon generations episode.
For matter of achievements, Leon quite literally might be the one NPC Champion that actually faced off against a Legendary, and won. He matched Eternatus with his full team despite being unable to use GMax and weakened it enough to the point of getting a 3 shakes throw, but Eternatus simply canonically has absurd amounts of energy and regen so his catch didn't quite work.
Yeah a champion actually going up against a legendary is really uncommon.
he didn't win, and I'm not sure 3 shakes is better than 2 or 1 if you still didn't capture it.

The one think that I could mention is that because of a lack of connection between Hoenn, Kalos, Galar and Paldea, it's way harder to place them. This is the case unless taking into consideration Raihan's Trainer card. Not taking it as fact but, that he could be a champion in another region, expect Galar and Kanto (due Red being above the rest of champions).

I'm genuinely shocked to see Diantha in the same tier as Cynthia.
And I mean that in the most positive way, because I'm so sick of people always constantly praising Cynthia and shitting on Diantha because of how easy XY were. Diantha deserves better imo.
Yeah I feel you, the whole games easy can’t really put on the blame on her. Though idk if Pokémon can be hard, without making up challenges.
@@commaGarbage I have heard that Pokémon Masters did do something with her in the Kalos Villain Arc with her Shiny Diancie Sygna Suit.
I hope that when XY remakes do come, they pull an ORAS on it and expand upon/reimagine the story. Have her help the player in dealing with Team Flare, raise her team up a few more levels, etc.
Its kind of a shame how people view Wallace cause in the Pokemon Adventures/Special manga, at the League tournament Wallace beat Steven but rejected the position to be a Gym Leader cause he had a thing for Winona (Wallace and Winona had dated at some point)
Yeah as someone who has not read that far into the manga, he is not a champion with a high status in my eyes. In Journeys he gets off screened by ash in the background of one episode. Thought it’s not like it would matter for this list if he somehow won the whole masters tournament.
It's odd. Hoenn had two Pseudo legendaries: Metagross (used by Steven) and Salamence (used by no one. They could have make Wallance's team mixed Water and other types like with Iris but they instead made his team really weak all water types.
@@DonoZeek Salamence is used by Drake from the elite 4, but no wonder you forgot about Lance from wish.
@@NaGa5h i always wonder why they made Drake, especially since there are barely any dragon types back then. Also, why did they give a pseudo pokemone to an elite fourth? It's traditional for the champion to have one.
@@DonoZeek Because originally, in ruby, the two pseudo legendary pokemon already went to the 2 strongest trainers in the main plotline, Drake and Stephen, and Wallace already had his ace, Milotic. I think they didn't risk changing too much from ruby to emerald.

It’s important to note that this does not consider an empty party slot as a zero.
And these are the weakest teams you can possibly beat in order to become their region’s champion + N & Nemona

Woah dude, nice breakdown, it’s always funny to me that Diantha has basically the highest levels out of any league champions initial battle.
@@commaGarbage I’d attribute that to maybe the introduction of exp share and them not exactly sure on how to balance the leveling? Not sure though. I still find it crazy that they made Cynthia surpass Red.
@@Makitru Yeah making Diantha have levels that high was definitely because of the new xp share system, Last time I played the game I was still 4-5 levels above her, just casually running the game. They definitely hadn't figure out how to balance properly balance it, I imagine that's part of the reason they stopped letting you turn xp share off. So they only had to balance one way of playing the game
The SMUSUM protags should be here tbh, they're the first official champion of Alola, they defend their title whenever they rematch the E4 (meaning they're the standing champion of Alola) and they were the ones to beat Team RR and U-Necrozma (only the USUM protags tho). Alola is a very special case among all regions bc the protag really is the standing champion, as you never fight anyone in those games with a champion title, and it shouldn't be an issue for this list bc you're not taking levels into account for the most part.
Yeah I could see that, but if I included them then the Gen 8 champion all of a sudden fits the criteria since Leon retires after you beat him. Then in Paldea all it takes to be champion is beating Geeta so there’s no need to even be a standing champion. Let’s Go is also pretty similar, because after you beat Trace on subsequent runs he challenges you just like the title defence battles in Alola. It’s a slippery slope, the protagonists would just be better suited for their own video imo.
@@commaGarbage The thing that differentiates Alola from the rest imo is that you're the first ever official champion and that's a big deal in the main story as Kukui and Hau don't have champion in their trainer name and the hall of fame says in big colorful letters "First ever Champion of Alola", but I agree that it's a bit of a slippery slope. At least I hope they end up high in the possible future protag tier list, as I've been enjoying how you do these tier lists, prioritizing feats over raw levels and team composition
Wallace does beat Steven in the manga and takes over as champion, hence the change in emerald, so... technically, yeah.

In terms of strength, i.e.purely team composition, assuming that you are using your legendary dragon against N, my list would be:

funny thing is i name all my characters red so for me red has beaten all reigons and caught every legendary and mythical i just think of it as red continuing his journey like ash did cause truthfully red definitely would be number one if they didn’t make him stay on a mountain to freeze

I would assume that Kukui did defeat the elite 4 in Alola as a way to convince them that he was serious about the league he was creating. After all, every league needs a champion and what better final test for a champion to earn their place then the man who created the league? So he’d have to be above the elite 4, as is proven with his team and time as the Masked Royal. Plus, his loss against Lance was from years ago before he settled back down in Alola and became the Masked Royal. Just arguing for some Kakui love here 😂
I can respect repping one of your favourites. As stated by him Kukui didn’t want to be champion of the league he made at the end of the day. So who knows if he even told anyone he planned on challenging the player at the end.

AI Sada/Turo may not have challenged the league, but the original Sada/Turo are actually confirmed to be Champions
Do you mean the hall of fame book? That’s just a book to honour students and former who did outstanding things like saving the region (why arven and penny are there) or inventing terastilization or a Time Machine. Geeta is a champion but she’s not in that book.

What is the logic of calling Ethan vs red battle undecided? Ethan beats red same as any player beats any other champion.
Hau might be in the unfortunate tier. Came very far in Alola but the one person he couldn't beat is technically the most powerful champion in the series by far. Quite possibly the most powerful character in the world at the time. It's been implied that Kukui lost to Lance so there's no such luxury.
Really what makes the alola player character the most powerful champion in the series? If that’s who you were talking about.
@@commaGarbage they managed to defeat team rainbow rocket, an evil organization of people who were about to succeed while carrying Pokémon far more powerful than what champions run. They also managed to take on Ultra Necrozma head on.
@@Garde_Mystik true I think i’d put the legends arceus protagonist above them (especially if they actually are also the DPP protagonist)but yeah the usum did accomplish a lot. Ranking Pokémon protagonist would be cool.

Well the idea of Hau is rather then him being your rival its more like your His rival your the blue in his situation, and hes red coming in for your title to become champion, thats at least the idea I got from hau. Thats probably why it was changed in Ultra
Never been a fan of this theory. Feels like every point made about Hau could be said for Trace from Let’s go. And honestly works better for Trace.
It's possible that Lance beat Red. That might be why Red went off to train

@@commaGarbage I love Alder man, one of fav champions. Though Leon, Steven and Diantha are still above him. Though game Diantha is a nothing character, as you said, I was fortunate in watching the anime first, lol. Combine that with her design and theme being my fav among the champions and you get one of my top 3

an NPC mentions meeting someone who said “smell ya later” instead of au revoir” He also says Bonjour during the opening of pokémon masters. It’s not really something that gets outright said

If you’re talking about the hall of fame book on the second floor, that has nothing to do with being a champion. The player, Nemona, arven and penny get in for saving the region from the Time Machine. Geeta is a champion but isn’t in that book. Sada/Turo are amazing scientists hence why there in the book
