Always known who they are, didn't like their radio hits and dismissed them as a goth band. Holy shit was I wrong. Watched a concert on YT on a bored whim about three weeks ago, and they blew my mind. Signed, a 63 year old new fan of The Cure!
Awesome! Better now than never! I love their early hits!!
Welcome
Absolutely echo that -radio ,not interested but glastonbury set was watching a real band play -love it !!!!
_"dismissed them as a goth band..."_ ....? No offense but, what's that supposed to mean? There's lots of bands in the Goth/Post Punk genres that are just as good as The Cure (as you now know) and many that are just as iconic. Only thing is, mainstream radio and the mainstream music industry will never acknowledge them cause they're quite content being sycophantic suck-up's to and leeching off the same tired mainstream bands they've seen as guaranteed cash cows over the past 4 - 5 decades. There's a whole world of great rock-related music genres/bands/songs out there, but if you think you're gonna find them on your everyday Top 40/flavor-of-the-day rock/metal stations whilst driving in your car? *_THINK AGAIN..._*
@@RiverOfBlacklights Well The Cure, are not a goth band. They are a post punk band late 70s till present time. As far as other bands that are just as good, maybe a few from that era but not enough to matter. I've seen every tour of the cure since 88. Multiple shows every tour. I haven't seen a band do 3-1/2 hour shows repeatedly night after night other than The Cure. All the bullshit post punk/goth bands are hacks compared to The Cure.
Robert stated that they played this song as a tribute to Andy Anderson, who had just passed away some weeks before. ❤
Shake Dog Shake is unique to this Robert Smith, as is Wrong Number. Other songs are part of an age old cannon....;)
when did he say that? would like to read/hear it :)
It’s cut out of the video but he said “this one’s for Andy” before they started playing it
@@willlovell7289 ua-cam.com/video/-U8up-W222o/v-deo.html
Min 12:20 you can watch it, he didn´t say that...
I think he said it behind the scenes, when someone asked him why he chose that song... but thats a mistery xd
@@pxblito ahhh, I must be thinking of another performance
They put to shame 90 percent of the performances performed at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. His voice is still damn perfect.
Robert Smith is a prince. Always caring about his fans. And the price of tickets.
One of my favourite Cure songs of all time. Blew me away when they opened with this in 1987 in Rio de Janeiro. Masterpiece
Me too! This song right here!
I was there! And they blew the roof off the joint. Hands down the best performance of the night.
I was there also, and they stole the show!!
I am new to the Cure these songs are absolutely amazing the song quality is incredible what is the best live album or albums I should get
Amazing!!!
Lucky you! My favorite band of all time and I haven’t been able to see them live. Ugh!
@@annnoel9819 Wow! I wish I could be new to The Cure. I remember when I bought Disintegration, I was 10 and my life changed. I found purpose. Enjoy the journey!
Simon, God of Bass
I don't care how old they are, they're still ace. The last concert I attended lasted 4 hours !!!!
I saw them at The Greek in Los Angeles and they played a solid three hours with zero opener. Robert Smith needs no opener. It was epic.
@@shilohivy4590 Jealous, I am, young Padawan ! 😉
They are anaged.
I know that Robert Smith is particularly proud of this song. He is right. Pure and magic !
They sound better now than they ever did. The line up is strong, specially with Reeves in the band. Can’t wait for their new album!!!!!
Will they release a new album ? :o
@@piggystardust Who knows! Robert Smith has been teasing a new album every year since 4:13. Whether a solo Robert Smith album or a The Cure album.
@@Carlos-xz3vi Fingers crossed. I really like Reeves work with the Cure . Saw him a few times on stage with Bowie too.
@@piggystardust I always liked Reeves with Bowie, so I was super jazzed when I saw he'd joined the Cure.
Fingers crossed. Any decade now.
Robert Smith - vocal is perfect ALWAYS!
The Top is one of my favorite albums, RIP Andy Anderson
It really is a post-punk psychedelic masterpiece
Piggy In The Mirror.
Bannana fish bones... you just had to go with it..
Andy's drumming on "Give Me It" is ridiculously good.
The Top reaches its rightful glory when Simon Gallup performs the songs of The Top ;)
Robert is one of the most beautiful souls in the music industry,. What a beautiful being he is.
One of the greatest bands ever. Robert is a hero to me.
This is the one they opened the concert I attended with, back in 1987. This blew me away to the point that the rest of the show barely registered and/or stuck with me. I had gone to see them play the hits from back then, songs like "Inbetween Days" and "Close To Me". Well, I'm sad (and happy) to report that the entire rest of the setlist kind of faded in the background while I reeled from the indescribable feeling that this tune left me with.
I forgot how much I love this song until I heard them perform it last night in Philadelphia! It was INCREDIBLE 🖤
I love Simon's running back and forth (and everything else about this)
Love him
Yeah he was going off! 💪
Raw power . Watched it like a hundred times. This band has very well aged, I think.
And that voice? Very likely one of the most recognisable in rock. Has it changed?
For the better, I think.
What a marvel that video is.
Have you heard of a band called The Essence pretty damn close to being clones of The Cure.
The Cure are one of those bands you must experience live! They are better than they have ever been and more relevant than ever. I saw them in Salt Lake City and we cannot start talking about how phenomenal they were!!
I first saw them at glastonbury in 87
For my money, the greatest performance ever at the RRHOF - and not because it was a special occasion - just because that's how they do that shit ALL THE TIME.
Shit they can still get after it! He sounds great.
Doesn't he? They sounded flawless .. seen it live and these dudes blew everyone else away .. just wow.
My favorite band since 1984....you just cant go wrong the cure
Finally ya’s!! Omg I’m crying this group helped me so much with depression so happy HOF got it right !
Great news. Pam babe
They were in Brazil back in the 80s then not many bands would come here . Still one of the best shows i've ever been to.
this is my favorite cure track, and honestly, it's one of their best! my dad gave me the top and japanese whispers albums as gifts when i was a teen and it opened up a whole new world for me. the top is still up there in my all-time cure lps
god damn his voice still sounds amazing!!
All these years and these guys still sound magical!! 🖤🖤🖤
Best performance of this song
What an absolutely incredible performance 👏
“And follow me to where the real fun is... “ one of the best lyrics ever
The 1984 The Top tour was my first Cure concert. This will always be my favorite album.
It doesn't get better than this. Doesn't get better than Robert. He just consumes you. Once inside you're never the same again.
The Cure is everything.
God I'm so happy now. 🤘
Fucking GREAT live band
Ok, Roger is REALLY rocking out here!! (Love him)! 😁
They are so good live. love seeing them every chance i get.
I think I'm one of the few Persians who listen to cure and other fabulous rock bands, and I don't say be cause of showing how cool or smart or etc I am, but just for showing my respect and love for these marvelous bands who changed my life 🙏🙏 I will always love you guys and it is my true honor and privilege to listen to your fantastic songs and music. Thanks again 🙏🙏🙏
not the only one. i do too
Galup really feeling the grind of this tune. Amazing!
Incredible!! My favourite band ever 🙂
Stellar performance....so much better than the album version...amazing...
One of my favorite Cure songs!
Simon's energy is incredible.
Oh yeah!!! Simon Gallup is
"The heart of the band on stage", as Robert himself stated some time ago...
Robert Smith is so god damn fuckin good!
Brilliant
A TRUE LEGEND - BETTER AND BETTER EVERY PERFORMANCE!
They and their sound just get better with age. It’s hard not to love a band that plays with such unjaded enthusiasm and emotion. “Goth Rock”-naaah: it’s simply fantastic music. Pigeonholing is nonsense with The Cure’s case. Duke Ellington once stated that at a certain level of achievement and commitment to a vision, musicians (and anyone) become “beyond category.” It’s a fitting description for a band who wrote and performed a song like this with such conviction and grit while managing to accomplish the same feat with a song like Love Cats. No cookie-cutter music here, just consistent inventiveness and transformation. Thanks for all the joy, Robert Smith et al.
muy loco ver a the cure junto a estas personas tan "perfectamente peinadas" . Una de las mejores bandas de la historia. God Bless you!!!
simply perfect!!!! the last concert in Mexico city in 2019 was awesome!!
This song rocks.
From a Rock and Roll Rebel. What a great song, like a few others I've just discovered from this band. I remember them well, but didn't know they have some really good tunes.
they still kick ass!
Love Simon, a great entertainer. Robert is genus! ❤
I love Simon’s energy
i can just listen to this song on repeat over and over
Rocking tune!!!
So, I mean so glad they still in the game and strong as ever. One of my favorites since I was just an 8 years old little chipmunk. 😎 Bravo, The Cure. 👏🤘🎶🎆
Gads I wish I could have been there. That is what you call an immortal voice.
I love them!
Greetings from Brazil! 🍷🍷🇧🇷
I love this performance of SDS. They rocked it here.
I love the cure
Theres a incalculable amount of bands sounds that wouldn’t exist without the cures influence in some way
Last year I had back to back The Cure and Tool. What an evening that was
I was there too, front stage :)
Shaking the damn place down to its foundation with this performance!!
And, that's how it's done.
Always and forever the cure to many things
Great tribute to Andy Anderson ❤
Temazo!!
Any one who keep going against Jasons playing should this. He is agressive (like the whole song is) and he stays true to the original drums yet adding new stuff that stays in the mood of the song. Brilliant!
So good!
If there is any doubt as to whether or not The Cure is a guitar band, show someone this. My older sister introduced me to them in 1985 when I was 7 years old and I have been a fan ever since. I saw them once in 2000 and they played a blistering 3 hour set. I am looking forward to seeing them again in June at MSG NYC.
Roberts voice is magical
His voice here is unbelievable!
The Cure was the cure for me since 1991..first year at Uni
OMG THIS IS AWESOME
I saw them fromt row at Nassau coliseum back in 87. It cost my entire paycheck ...worth every nickel
WOW! I have never seen The Cure ROCK as hard as this! This RRHOF performance is EPIC. That particular word gets used far too often, and inappropriately, these days. However, it MOST DEFINITELY applies here, 1,000,000%!!! Glad to see 'the institution' pay the band their just dues after all this time. LL
The Cure have been playing several times harder than this evening.
Oh no way they do this song! Oh yes! THE TOP BABY!!!!!!
Love this song! Ever relevant. 🖤❤⚡️🎶
Goodness they’re tight!
Robert is like the good wine...as he get older he just get better
Shake Dog Shake and Wrong Number and the new additions to Cure "cannon." The eternal sound will conquer the darkeness
Live the Cure reign supreme for thousands of years…
When Robert gets in 6he zone with that voice it's so fucking amazing 🔥
One of the best!
The Cure ROCKS.
So Great!
Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles heeding Robert’s encouragement to shake at 1:45
So freaking awesome!!!
Phénoménal, parfait 🖤
My favorite live version of this song is their Munich 84 show ❤️🔥😭 ayayayayeee
As a bassist I could never play every song slouched over with the bass almost touching the floor, my back hurts watching Simon play lol
The drummer's perfect posture makes up for it though.
For Marcel van der Louw and his partner Nancy Alkemade....how they loved this song!
This was Marcel's "theme song."
rock and roll
This is a professional operation.
MINUTE 1:45, THE GIRLS ARE VERY HAPPY !!!
Gosh!
Fine looking women in the crowd
♥♥♥
Love it!
Yeahhh!!!
@ 1:05 ... I wanna party with this chick! She dont give a F*** 😝
Same 🍑
