Great tips. I used a lot of your info for setting up my show last year and it went of without a hitch. Doing a little bit more this year plus some canister shells for the finale.
In the show you see around the 7:10 mark sparks light other cakes due to them not being covered , looks cool but show should have went 5 minutes longer , the paper on top protects sparks from lightning it pre mature, fireworks make a mess , multiple cakes going off looks cool but plan it to happen, mortar tubes was covered for that reason but not the cakes , personally I’d get a cheap china firing system, a 4 que for like $30 that way you have more control of the pace , that’s nothing compared to $$ buying at Phantom lol
Great video...one thing you could do is add links to other videos like the "how to connect the fuses" video etc...a link to the actual show would be great too! The easier it is to view your videos the more views and likes you will get!

Nice video. Some great tips. I really like the Green Rough Surface tape it works great. I built my racks the same way you did. I have 40 10 shot racks. Then I assemble the layout at the shoot site. Subbed you.
Thanks for the video... This is my first time ever doing fireworks show. I'm not sure how to time the fusing but I'm going to give it my best shot. It will either be beautiful or a Smokey mess. I've set my boards following your suggestion paying attention to how they have to face and where the fuses are.... It's just the time delay thing.... Hoping for the best. Any advise would be great
Hi Colton Jay, thanks for watching. Its a good idea to have different speeds of fuses on hand so you can time it the way you want to. It is also a good idea to know what cakes you have and how long they last. I keep an excel spreadsheet so I know how long each cake lasts, then I pick the fuse I need from there based on its distance from the last cake.
Nice job. Have a question? Have you considered doing a 3 lane show about 25' apart from each board to give the audience more of a show. It's two boards one on the left, the other on the right. same cakes and at the same sequence order of shooting and the middle board fill it with bigger cakes that way u get a layer show of effects with some sequence to make the show more constructive. Instead of putting a whatever show. Just a thought.. still great job there
Good luck being able to afford doubling up plywood like that this year😂. 1/4 inch plywood is good enough to glue down cakes with them being 2 foot by 4 foot. After show is over, kick the cakes off the boards, and you can reuse them the next year
Hi Junior C, thanks for watching and the kind words! There are many cakes out there that are great. My favorite 200g cake is Mobile Menace by Brothers. Some great 500g cakes are One Bad Mother in Law by World Class, Loyal to None by World Class, Guerilla warfare by World Class, Fighting Rooster by World Class, Tropic Thunder by Phantom Fireworks, and PoPoMagnet by Pantom Fireworks. It all depends on what effects you are looking for.
Hi Andy Howrylak, thanks for watching and thanks for your comment! The floor has been taking a beating and will need to be redone in a few years when I plan to sell the house
Hi Michael Hutchinson, thanks for watching! A hammer can be used to knock the cakes off the top layer of plywood boards (the thinner cheaper plywood). You can then flip the top layer plywood over and use the reverse side the next year. So I get 2 years of use out of the top layer of plywood and save the bottom plywood which is thicker and more expensive.
Question, wouldn't it just be easy to screw 2x4 on the end's of the board's and attach heavy duty rope for easy carrying to the launch site or is that a bad idea.
Hi Marvelous Lighting, thanks for watching and your question! You could screw in 2x4's with rope to carry the boards if you would like. I didn't have much of a problem carrying the boards with another helper. I think the only reasons why I wouldn't do this is because the 2x4's would cause you to lose some surface area that pyrotechnic product could otherwise occupy. The 2x4's may add an extra layer of complexity as you would have to tighten these in addition to the four corner bolts securing the two layers of plywood together. The last reason is that the cakes do have weight to them and even with two layers of plywood, the boards will sag in the middle. I felt a bit safer having hands supporting from the bottom side especially while walking and a bouncing effect is transferred to the plywood sheets during transport. Thanks for watching and happy/safe launching!
gluing everything down isn't that destroying your ply wood so that next year you need all new pieces? How do you remove them to dispose all of it after?
I only use boards for my finales, couple boards some zippers and a 50 shotter. My opener and main body is mostly hand fired. Nice vid, not sure if you're aware but 2 years ago phantom and tnt tried to get fine mesh metals used in all consumer grade aerial fireworks banned by the cpsc. They only wanted us to be able to purchase shitty safe and sane which they would obviously have a monopoly on. Just wanted to give you a heads up on the type of company you're spending those pyro dollars on. Have a safe 4th.
Whew, its back breaking work but I love the end result. I am actually in the process of trying to phase away from using cakes as the main body of the show and instead running DR11 tubes and various mortars and mines. I still make boards for my 1.4G finale through, maybe run some 200g boards during the beginning or for show filler.

Can you give us an idea of the cost of all these fireworks? I would love to just buy the ones you chose. Otherwise it may be pretty difficult for a newbie to choose.
Pause the video and check the prices of the particular names on the boxes with online fireworks vendors? Those vendors also have pretty good descriptions of effects, shot sizes and duration, as well as videos of them on UA-cam. I wouldn’t overthink it, cause most are pretty good.
sup BC! dope how to vids def appreciate especially w covid 19 question: curious on how much spent on fireworks and where did you buy from? im in bay area, ca
Hi Allan, thanks for watching. This show consisted of about $1,600 in pyrotechnic product purchased from Phantom Fireworks, Pro Fireworks, and Jakes Fireworks.
I like your idea about the tape because if you use liquid nailer like he said in the video. You can't reuse the plywood. All of it would have to be thrown away and buy more.
try and find a place cheaper than phantom!! phantom is extremely overpriced, i know in vegas i can drive an hour west and get them for wayy cheaper, that way you can have a much bigger show for the same price. If not, research! Go look at what phantom has and make a list and look them up on youtube and watch videos of other people demo'ing them. That way you can make a list in your head about the best ones for the price. Thats my 2 cents :)
@@Vaulted ok. Only thing is I get buy one get 2 free for phantom right now and their selection is a lot better than any other place around where I'm at
Hello Joker, thanks for watching! Here is a list of all of the cakes in my show from Phantom, in no particular order. Keep in mind I have product from other stores in this 2019 setup. PoPo Magnet, 500g Prismatic, 500g Christmas in July, 500g, Sunshine State, 500g Seismic Zone, 500g New Yorker Salute Finale, 500g Pyrotechnic Motherlode, 500g Mega Mojo, 500g Tropic Thunder, 500g God of Fire, 500g Fortress of Fire, 500g Bada Bing! Question...are you able to remove the cakes afterwards and reuse the plywood boards or does gluing everything down mean you have to get new plywood each year?
Since I run double plywood bolted together, the top plywood sheet is thin cheap plywood. I usually brake off the spent cakes with a prybar and hammer, and then I can flip the cheap plywood over and use the reverse side the next year. So essentially, one sheet of cheap plywood (2'X4') is about $7.00 and can be used twice, so not a huge cost.
Just screw the cakes down threw the corners at the very bottom. The very bottom is just clay. Then u can use same 2x4 1/2 plywood sheets till they burn up! I seen a guy say he has used same boards for 30 years. Btw the 1/2 plywood is way better than osb and lighter than 3/4 plywood. The screws are way cheaper than liquid nails, just get 1 1/8" drywall screws, you can reuse them after ur done. Also no caulking left all over ur board to clean up!
Hi John Hickson, thanks for watching! I budget an allotment for it every year. My two main hobbies are 4th of July Fireworks and Halloween. I'm hoping ill have time to post more Halloween videos this year.
They can touch if you really want them to. I leave space so I can run fuse between if needed. Also, if one cakes blows out on the board, if there is space it is less likely it will knock other cakes off the board or knock their tubes over.
Hi Uber Lucario, thanks for watching! You can certainly run perfect fuse for your whole set up. It just depends on how long you want your show to last. Good luck and stay safe!
Hi Hardcore Pyro, thanks for watching! The Gorilla Glue Construction Adhesive appears to be very similar to Liquid Nails. The Gorilla Glue does mention that it is not recommended for several types of polymers (plastics) such as polyethylene, polypropylene, bitumen or similar materials. So as long as your cakes are not made out of plastic parts, I would say you are good to go with Gorilla Glue Construction Adhesive!
I can unbolt and throw away the 1/4' plywood when the bottoms of the cakes stay glued to it. 1/4" plywood is cheap. 1/2' and 3/4" plywood is not cheap.
@@brandonc7450 Im just saying YOUR safety is at risk going cheap, Do it right the first time and SAFETY isn't a concern. Why put bad ideas or advice on here if you don't considd SAFETY ? YOURE putting ppls lives in jeopardy and possibly their property
@@crackyjimbob831 Errr… Please tell me how a couple of cardboard and plastic tubes (light) jeopardize SAFETY? Not much in the way of recoil or impact, and the wood is underneath as a platform. It would also burn just the same as anything thicker… 🤔
Cardboard and fiberglass tubes r actually terrible lit off three shells and the thing was warped after them luckily had an extra Excalibur tube with me, never trust fiberglass or cardboard tubes for ur own sagety
Hi Denise Thomas, thanks for watching! Due to the amount of adhesive necessary to secure the cakes, I wouldn't advise the usage of hot glue. It would likely cool before you had the chance to properly adhere the cake to the plywood.
whats the best state to live in for doing firework shows like this? im in arizona...so they would basically shit themselves if you did this here. Awesome. Much America.
Hi Diesel Ramcharger, thanks for watching! Every state has their own rules and even different counties and municipalities may have different laws. Here in Michigan, all class 1.4G fireworks are legal to shoot but only on certain day’s immediately surrounding a holiday and only at certain hours. Most counties and municipalities refer back to the State laws.
"I don't trust fiberglass tubes" Watch an upside down can in an HDPE tube and one in a fiberglass tube. HDPE blows out, the fiberglass tube doesn't. Maybe it's just me but I don't want a HDPE tube blowing out and effecting the other effects around it. Fiberglass tubes don't seem to do that.
this is late but please consider wholesale or a mom and pop shop. thats a lot of phantom product and i know you got ripped off from them. you couldve had triple the stash for what you spent by not shopping phantom.
So who pays for this? I want to do this here but I can't spend 10k and 2 days prep just for 6 ppl I jus wonder how you get to the point where you set these up and provide a show
Hi Timothy George, thanks for watching! I have found it best to start early (2-4 weeks ahead of the 4th) and do it in small chunks if you can. Just do an hour or two a night after work, and you'll get it done without stressing yourself out too much.
Brandon C just curious. Not even sure what it puts into the air that might be dangerous if inhaled for too long. We all know what fireworks smell like.
Brandon C compare a big show like yours to a car running I suppose? Thanks for the reply. Cool setup. Not hating just wondering if regulations might get strict over here in the us. These days ya know
@@caligrownvisuals6717 I wont lie to you, I am not sure about the smell of fireworks or what pollution it causes, or if it is carcinogenic. I did write up a paper on the legality of fireworks when I was in a law class for my BBA degree and I investigated into pollution from an environmental standpoint. From what I remember, very little to no additional heavy metals or other chemicals enter the immediate ground soil/water as most of the metals burn up during the report bursts (the bursts of colors in the air).

@@troyjollimore4100 well I just did my second show & in order to protect the board. I staple thick cardboard to the boards & then I glued the cakes to the cardboard!!!! It’s a little work cutting & pulling them off, but I was able to save the boards for the next show!!!! & thanks for responding!!!
@@jonvonmatlock9672 Heh. That’s like using a sacrificial cover to save a sacrificial cover! 😉 Even if you cared for appearances, painting the boards and then touching them up after would be an option.
@@troyjollimore4100 well one cost money & the cardboard is free!! 🤷🏽♂️ ( well at least for me!! )
Brandon help how do you get those xcals so cheap? By me they are 200+ commercially but I’ve been looking for somewhere to get them cheap for forever
If you’d use hot glue instead of liquid nails, you could reuse the top plywood.
Will clay absorb liquid nail?
Can you give us an idea of the cost of all these fireworks? I would love to just buy the ones you chose. Otherwise it may be pretty difficult for a newbie to choose.
Pause the video and check the prices of the particular names on the boxes with online fireworks vendors? Those vendors also have pretty good descriptions of effects, shot sizes and duration, as well as videos of them on UA-cam. I wouldn’t overthink it, cause most are pretty good.
@@troyjollimore4100 thanks for the suggestion. Good to know that they are mostly good.
why don't you use finale racks?
sup BC! dope how to vids def appreciate especially w covid 19 question: curious on how much spent on fireworks and where did you buy from? im in bay area, ca
Hi Allan, thanks for watching. This show consisted of about $1,600 in pyrotechnic product purchased from Phantom Fireworks, Pro Fireworks, and Jakes Fireworks.
@@brandonc7450 1600 dollars, WOW!
Welp... there goes my Stimulus Payment.
Pro, Phantom, and Jakes... I think we live in the same area. I also hit Discount fireworks for that magic line.
@@brandonc7450 Funny, that looks like $3K in 2022 dollars.
I used a lighter to shorten my fuses to the desired si...oh crap.
How do you reuse the platform after the show?
Unbolt the 1/4" plywood and throw it away when you can no longer glue cakes to it anymore because everything is stuck to it. Keep the 1/2" plywood.
Nice budget.
cool and how old are you
Standard issue caulk gun? where can i get one ._.
Use double sided tape and you can reuse your plywood sheets
I like your idea about the tape because if you use liquid nailer like he said in the video. You can't reuse the plywood. All of it would have to be thrown away and buy more.
Cobra system is the way to go
How much did all of those fireworks cost?
Any chance you could share the list of cakes you use? Going to be doing a show this year and will be shopping at phantom
try and find a place cheaper than phantom!! phantom is extremely overpriced, i know in vegas i can drive an hour west and get them for wayy cheaper, that way you can have a much bigger show for the same price.

@@Masterseven77 Hey Matt, thanks for the tips. Could you make a video to show us how you do it? Thanks!
How, how do you afford this
Hi John Hickson, thanks for watching! I budget an allotment for it every year. My two main hobbies are 4th of July Fireworks and Halloween. I'm hoping ill have time to post more Halloween videos this year.
i also want to now
Can the cakes touch or do they need to be spaced a bit like yours?
They can touch if you really want them to. I leave space so I can run fuse between if needed. Also, if one cakes blows out on the board, if there is space it is less likely it will knock other cakes off the board or knock their tubes over.
can i just perfect fuse a whole setup and time the fuses
Hi Uber Lucario, thanks for watching! You can certainly run perfect fuse for your whole set up. It just depends on how long you want your show to last. Good luck and stay safe!
@@brandonc7450 awesome thnks gnna try and record it all
Would the Gorilla Glue Construction Adhesive work just as good?
yes you can that is what i use.
Well the first thing you dont do is buy from phantom . I wouldnt even put them in my show if someone gave them to me
Honestly 😂 trying to get 329.99 for a wacky tobacky at my local one. Went down the road and got it for 100 😂
I would like to get your fibreglass tubes
How long was your show the way you did this?
Hi Sam Yager, thanks for watching! The show was about 10mins long.
Approximately how much did all of this cost if you don’t mind sharing? I’d like to get a budget for an attempt:)
Hi Bubba, thanks for watching! The cost of the pyro product is around $1,600. That does not included miscellaneous supplies. Good luck with your show!
How much does one of those racks cost?
I was able to build them for around $50-60 each but I used premium lumber. You could probably build them cheaper if with cheaper lumber.
I don't mean to sound moronic but, why not just use 3/4" Plywood instead of all the time ya need to put into that ?
Where do you get your fuse
PyroBoom and local firework stores. www.pyroboom.com/products.aspx?name=zipties
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 pun intended...lol
Cardboard and fiberglass tubes r actually terrible lit off three shells and the thing was warped after them luckily had an extra Excalibur tube with me, never trust fiberglass or cardboard tubes for ur own sagety
Hi, What's your opinion using a hot glue gun?
Hi Denise Thomas, thanks for watching! Due to the amount of adhesive necessary to secure the cakes, I wouldn't advise the usage of hot glue. It would likely cool before you had the chance to properly adhere the cake to the plywood.
@@brandonc7450 ok cool, thanks for the tip! 😊👍
whats the best state to live in for doing firework shows like this? im in arizona...so they would basically shit themselves if you did this here.
Get ready to run for your life !! No barricading ???
So who pays for this? I want to do this here but I can't spend 10k and 2 days prep just for 6 ppl I jus wonder how you get to the point where you set these up and provide a show
He does! Now, whether someone else pays HIM back is up to him… 😉
I was thinking before the video that i could do this. Then i realized i am gonna need some serious ocd attention to detail.
@Mr. DroCro and a couple adderal
Hi Timothy George, thanks for watching! I have found it best to start early (2-4 weeks ahead of the 4th) and do it in small chunks if you can. Just do an hour or two a night after work, and you'll get it done without stressing yourself out too much.
The wood will cost more than the fireworks lol
In the current post-COVID world we currently live in, yes. A standard untreated 2x4 went from $2.40 last year to $11.50 this year. Crazy.
Only if we dint live in California then we get anything you want lol
Fireworks going off this minute. We already launched our fireworks(about 200 dollars worth)
Can you compare the amount of pollution this produces?
Not as much as you would think
Hi CaliGrown Visuals, thanks for watching! I'm not sure what you are asking. Comparing pollution to what?
