- This video discusses the concept of subliminal messages. Subliminal messaging is based on psychodynamic theory, specifically the role of the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious mind. Subliminal messages are below the Absolute Threshold Level for the conscious mind. Supraliminal messages are above the Absolute Threshold Level for the conscious mind and are often confused subliminal messages. Subliminal messages may have a small effect on human behavior, but not as pronounced as supraliminal messages.
Personally, I agree with you. There are many occasions where I am watching tv or I am not completely aware of what's going on and I will smell or see a commercial about food, and then next thing you know, I am craving that food. It shows us how powerful our mind is.

Do subliminal messages manifest themselves in occurrences that are more normative and automatic? for example, if i experience anxiety, it some times manifests in my dreams. Is my desire to eat certain foods or buy certain products done because of potential subliminal messages

I have read that hypnosis is associated with both subliminal and supraliminal messaging. Traditional hypnosis would be supraliminal for the most part. I will put hypnosis on my video production list. Thanks for the idea!
Also, what about over the longer term. Like influencing yourself daily with these inputs. Making them part of your environment to influence you? Just a thought.
The wine example seems more like influence of the environment, adhering to social cues in a way like the way priming influences people.
So… all those decades of buying and listening to subliminal audio programs has been a total waste of time and money. No wonder that I wasn’t helped by them.

I definitely mistook supraliminal for subliminal in certain situations. I don’t think that subliminal messages affect people in a huge way, but could possibly over time depending on exposure. I watched a short film on subliminal messaging in disney films and the claimed intent never effected me what so ever. I guess it depends.
