I’m a new Ham and I bought this radio as my first radio. It’s a FANTASTIC and quality radio for 2m and 70 cm bands. Even me, brand new around amateur radios, I figured it out in a couple of days.

Had this radio now for 3 weeks. I love it too. Only beef is the size of the screen. Could be a little bigger or have a zoom/magnification feature.Setting repeater operation features like PL frequency is tiny and commonly used.
Other than that, the radio is Aces. Good video thanks!

Turn Siri off on iphone then the ( Siri button ) on CX350BT to transmit on Yaesu then ( Play / Pause button ) on CX350BT stop transmission on Yaesu.

So is there any way to make the display button bring up the compass page rather than the band scope? Having to always go into display setting to make a change that is only temporary is a huge hassle. I think this is needed in a firmware update.

Thanks for your video. I am looking at VHF/UFH mobile. I originally was leaning toward FTM-400 but the price kept going up and no Black Friday deals. This 300 looks interesting to me. I wonder how often i need to view the screen while mobile. I am mostly going to select a repeater and then just talk on it as I drive,I would expect. Maybe you have some other ideas as you have been doing mobile for a while. I see that Bluetooth is included in the 300 where it is an option in the 400. I have a Anytone 878 for an HT which will be my initial VHF mobile ( I have a Lido mount for my HT) while I research this. My first priority is for HF mobile with something like the FT-891 with HamSticks at first before I go down the screwdriver decisions. I love your channel and how you told us your story of being with CB back in the day (I was heavily into CB in the 70’s). I also like solar so we could have a good time over a drink one day! All the best, 73 de KI5HXM

I like my Yaesu radios I currently have and don't really have a need for this radio. I have a FTM 400, a 100, and a few ht's - all fine radios and all made in Japan. FTM 300 is made in China. Has some cool features, but really should be $150 less than the current asking price if not actually made in Japan IMHO.

At least on the FTM-400 you can use other BlueTooth headsets by changing the default password in radio to "0000" which is the default of a lot of BTheadsets. At least for my cheap Chinese headset, but mic quality isn't all that great. Keep in mind the when you transmit with BT headset, the audio on the handehle mic maybe on too. So for best sound, hold the mic away from your face or cover the mic port with your finger.

When these brands start offering Chinese built radios rather than Japanese, there won't be much of a benefit to buying Icom, Kenwood and Yaesu anymore. That has got to be the most messed up memory scheme I have ever heard of. Tell me how to scan only a set of 12 mixed VHF and UHF repeaters in Tampa, drive into Orlando and want to only scan 15 other VHF/UHF repeaters with duplicates having different tones, run thru Vero, into Ft Lauderdale in and out of Miami to spend the night in the keys. What do we have here, potential two hundred repeaters from start to end? All my rigs I have owned had memory banks to select and scan independently. The engineer who designed this memory system needs to have it handed to him and sent packing with a new resume. Am I missing something?

Has Yaesu upgraded the volume control potentiometers for the FTM-300? The potentiometers used for the two volume controls on the FTM-400DX had a cheap flimsy loose movement compared to the volume controls on other quality radios. When you turned them, they feel as if they were snatched out of the bargain bin from a Chinese factory. They were not up to the standards of a high quality reputable manufacturer. Otherwise, I love my FTM-400XD, a great radio, but the movement and feel of the two volume control knobs is embarrassingly cheap! I really hope the FTM-300 doesn't suffer this same problem.

With the FTM-100 now discontinued, this then becomes the cheapest HRI-200 node compatible transceiver that Yaesu sell. Unless they have something cheaper up their sleeves.
Personally, I'd love to see a new FTM-7250 version that could be connected up to a HRI-200 node. I always thought having a FTM-100 or FTM-400 attached to a HRI-200 was a massive waste of a transceiver. I really just want a plain and simple transceiver acting as the Digital RF portion of the WiRES X Gateway.

Do you think japan radios from the last 20 years are better than the chinese? I don't think so.

My FTM-300DR is made in Japan, it’s on the bottom of the radio. The mic is made in China.

@@raoulduke5690 the FT-4X we get in the US is made in Japan. It’s a direct conversion so the “radio on a chip” used is probably made in China. I’ve not looked at the internals of the newest Icom direct conversion HT’s but I suspect they are similar. Icom is a major user of AKM semiconductors, so may be Japanese. The 300 is a really good radio.
