    Well said, sir.
Without freedom, we have nothing to live for.
Mark was demonstrating true freedom to thousands around the world.
We were all living a bit of freedom with him in his videos while stuck in our 9-5 pointless lives, and now that bit of freedom has left the world.
It was nice riding the rails with Hobo.

nonsense--no drug addict is free of anything---->you people elevate this loser who was a heavy drug user,meth,crack,speed--geezuz,one of the big reasons why our society is very messed up--no doubt before he turned the camera on he jacked himself up to get animated --a clown

I saw a video of Bazzman's tribute to Shoestring. I think it is a good idea he has to tie a Shoestring to a fence or tree near a jump on spot. Wanted to comment on, but comments are turned off. Good on you Bazzman.

I followed Shoestring for years on UA-cam. That man had more wisdom than anyone I've ever known. When he would upload a video, I got excited. For the duration of each video, was the opportunity to forget about all the anxieties in my own life. It was like I was there with him. The stories, the teaching, the comedy, the suspense, it was all there. He touched the hearts of so many. I will miss him dearly.

I've reached the point in my life where I've started having to come to grips with my own mortality, and the mortality of friends and family that I've known my entire life. I've seen a lot of good people pass in the last few years, Shoestring being one of them. I couldn't agree more with your perspective here. I could learn a lot from the way Shoestring approached life, maybe we all could. It's sad that things like this have to happen before we learn these lessons.

I'm also afraid how these same people might feel they have the right to violate Mark's family's privacy. Time will tell how everything plays out. NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO SAY HURTFUL THINGS FOR THE SAKE OF HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

I followed Mark for many years on Facebook. I was very impressed with his lifestyle. He went through a period of heavy drinking,it was alarming at times and many of us were very worried about him. He managed to overcome it and stop. His free way of life was a hard life as I observed from his posts. Riding on trains must take a toll on one's health, the constant loud noise, the materials trains carry can be cancer causing. I'm happy Mark found success with his UA-cam videos and I'm happy he found so many new friends and followers, I just wish all of this could have happened years sooner for him to enjoy. I miss him too, can't believe he's gone.

Best video I've seen come out since the announcement of his death. I first found Stobe the hobo and then shoestring. After watching their videos for years I felt so jealous of them both. They didn't lead glorious lives, but they were free and seemed like such genuine human beings. I'll be 39 in a few months and I feel like I've wasted so much time giving my life away to work and trying to keep up with the Jone's. I have never met either of the men I mentioned, but I miss them both dearly like I've known them my entire life.
Once again thank you for sharing such a great message we all needed to hear. RIP Mark, thanks for taking us along on a ride of a lifetime.

I said this on another post. "Starting watching him when I got COVID this first time back in 2020 and he was about the only thing I could watch to pass by the time that didn't drive me crazy. I always looked forward to his next video. A lot of us wish we had the guts to do what he did. He will be missed by so many. I bet we will see him leading the train station on our way to the other side someday. Live on Hobo."

Well said Sir, Hobo Shoestring lived his life doing what he loved. We enjoyed all his videos. He was a very intelligent man. He wouldn't hurt anyone. He planned his adventures & enjoyed them. Not everyone would do what he did but that was his life. He also had a house with many treasures in it. Clean & organized. My husband made him a couple of signs & mailed them to him. He enjoyed getting them. R.I.P. Mark Nichols Hobo Shoestring 😇

Tell you what he was no dummy. And yes, birth IS a terminal disease. I really enjoyed listening to his stories. And the uncanny knowledge that he accumulated over the years relating to the rails, rail yards, locations. Unfortunately health issues caught up with him as it almost always does to all of us at some juncture. I was very healthy at his age. But I was also very obese (even though I saw myself as a much trimmer man). That finally caught up with me at around 65. And now at 81 I'm almost a total shut-in (even though I still drive). Time moves along very quickly and more of us should make the choices that Mark did. Try to make choices in life that you love doing... and try to avoid those as much as possible that you do not. Personally I would never attempt what Mark did. However each of us are cut from a unique cloth and even though there are now billions of us on this rock NONE are exactly the same so do as Mark did and respect those differences between all of us and try our best to accept those differences. I learned a lot from Mark and I'll bet a lot of us did as well. RIP Shoestring you will not be forgotten...
