Your the grand master of explanations great stuff, I learn better this way compared to reading the books thanks.

Thanks LDR. I kept searching for a tutorial on Timeline loop sync for my own use but couldn't find anything! By the way I see your own cluster of Erica gear is getting great results.

Thanks for putting up this video, it helped me get a working setup going with my own Timeline. I use a Keystep 37 also and I had to make sure to flip the switches on the back so that it was in MIDI Sync mode. Otherwise it would not pick up the Midi Start signal from my other device when I hit play.
Smart to have one pattern that is record then flip to a different pattern for playback. I added a third pattern to do nothing so that I can let the Timeline sit there indefinitely in play or record mode.
I have noticed that when the Play command is invoked on the Timeline there can be a tiny blip in the audio. Having a pattern to do nothing eliminates this. That could just be a quirk of my equipment though.

Ah yes, the little MIDI switches on the 37, I had great trouble with mine when I first got it since I kept reading it the opposite way around lol. And a very good idea about having a blank pattern as well I haven't noticed any blip though, I must try it again and listen more closely.
I really wanted to use this same looper method with the El Capistan2 but it uses MIDI CC instead of MIDI note number - a big disappointment since synced MIDI CC transmission requires a much more powerful sequencer.

Does looper sync with midi input when just regular looping?

Sync depends entirely on when the looper gets the 'start' command. I do it with the sequencer here because that makes sync easy. But if you had a keyboard which which played notes quantized to the clock then you could do it manually. (Hope I understood your question).

Thanks for your reply. Im playing in a set up where a sequencer controls a drumcomputer and a bass synth. I play guitar and on some occasion use loop. I want that loop to be in beat sync with the rest. I never could figure out why it wasnt sync with a midi attached. So i dont necessarily want to trigger play or record via midi but just want a midi sync loop

Or is that only possible when also using commands via keys

It's not enough just to send it a clock. Assuming that your loop is clean (no initial gap or silence) then it needs to start at the right time. MIDI note 2 commands the loop to play and MIDI note 4 is stop. So just have that programmed into the sequencer. Timeline is a great looper imo because it uses note numbers rather than MIDI CC commands (like the El Capistan for example). Just about anything will send a simple note number.

Horses for courses. What's the looping situation you're trying to solve?
