I had never heard of Boris Bloch before I ran across this video, but this is by far the best interpretation of Gretchen am Spinnrade I've ever heard. I think many are familiar with Yuja Wang's performance because she frequently uses it as an encore, but after hearing Mr. Bloch's interpretation, I realized that Ms. Wang plays it too darn fast and loses much of the nuance. I can hear things in this performance that are totally buried in other versions. Bravo!
Totally right most people play this piece fast slow fast slow fast slow instead of staying at one tempo imagine the singer on this piece having to sing faster then slower then faster...
Wonderful performance of this emotional composition originated by a 17 year old Schubert and adapted to piano virtuosity by Franz Liszt. This is first class music!
Every time I listen to this performance I am astounded to discover that it is even more beautiful than I remembered it as being. Why this pianist is not the featured artist on the season program of every concert hall of every great city in the world is a mystery to me.
Incredible rendition, but change the camera man! I don't see any reason for footage of the most dynamic portion of the piece, it's climatic ending, not to be completely focused on his hands!
This is entirely a matter of personal preference, even the same viewer may find the overall view interesting at one time and the hands only at another time.
Unbearably beautiful. My tears have not dried yet
Best version I've come across by far.

I agree

A perfect rendition of this heartbreaking music
Just the slightese touch of rubato in the melody line is epic!

I agree. It's a real mystery.
He needs a better manager perhaps?
