    LYRICS:
    It’s easy to be right
    When everything repeats
It’s easier to cut us down and point at our defeat
    It’s easy to be right
    When everything repeats
Dig below the surface, find your insecurities
    Tell me
    Maybe you were right
    Maybe I was wrong
But I’ve been silent for far too long
    Maybe you were right
    Maybe I should go
But I’ve been silent for far too long
    What will it take
To rip the heart from your hate
    What will it take
    What will it take
To rip the heart from your hate
    You always walk away
Soon you'll have to face it
Your distance from reality won't bury or erase it
I tried to do the same
    Living so complacent
But the problems wouldn't go away so I turned around to face them

I've followed Trivium for years, since Ascendancy.
In High School I actually wrote a column for my school newspaper and actually got a hold of Matt for it, to just talk about Trivium's direction, (this was right after they dropped Travis Smith, their first drummer), and had brought in Nick Augusto (still one of my favorite trivium members), and I asked a lot of questions, about Augusto, the band.
I closed with this question: "Where do you see Trivium in 15 years?"
Matt K. Heafy replied to me:
"Making the music we want to make."
It's now been almost 10 years since I published that article. Needless to say, Matt has stuck pretty true to that. He's developed as an artist. Music is first and foremost an expression of feeling and emotion. Matt has never sold out. He has never given into the mainstream media fully. He has always made the music he and the band want to make, and he has never settled for less.
Yes, Shogun was amazing. Yes, Ascendancy was stellar. Yes we all loved Ember, and yes, nothing has been the same.
But I think that's part of the maturing process for Matt and the band. And we either support him as an artist, in return for creating music that has given us what we wanted. Or we ditch Matt in the dirt and find someone else who is less mature than Matt.
I for one, will stand by Matt, because he and the members of Trivium, have given me 10+ years of awesome metal. I may not like every song, but I didn't like the entire crusade album either. But I am a Trivium fan. And I always will be. And that means standing by the decisions the bands make.

What do you think of the new drummer Alex Bent? He's killing it right now! This song seems a little simple for his typical style, but his drum fills in this track are outstanding for the song structure! It took a few listens but Trivium have found a great drummer!

Graduated with Matt Heafy and am "friends" with him but we dont talk over the cell phone or hang out. was in many of his classes; he graduated from Lake Brantley in 2004 in Orlando and got to graduate half a year early to tour Europe. I look up to the guy as one of the best guitarists of our time, a lot of his new music isn't like his old stuff but dont hate, everyone changes their style of music.. Maybe not the best vocalist but he went from playing in high school battle of the bands to being signed to Lifeforce records and then ultimately Roadrunner records and I wish him the best. If people want full octane metalcore/thrash, listen to an earlier album or just don't listen to the band at all. They are evolving their sound, this is their 8th album. They aren't going to be making Ascendancy or Shogun 8 times over. They're in their 30s. They have matured their sound and guess what? It's still epic as fuck.

Killer song. Cory's flawless riffs meld into the song and create an aura about it. Paolo gives it an ominous power; you can really tell he tinkered with the bass sound this go round during the production of the track. Alex creates the perfect rhythm for head banging. Matt's vocals have truly come full circle and you can see the hard work he has poured into his practicing. I truly admire this band for everything they do; it's really inspiring to see how hard they work coupled, with their creativity, and then let the finished product envelop you. Can't wait to see them live in Baltimore and listen to the whole album. Keep up the great work!

Ember to Inferno was when they started very Metallica Edgy teen-esque, Ascendancy was when they were actually making a good album trending along with other mid 2000’s metal core bands. The Crusade personally to me was just a rushed, overdone album, Metallica 2.0 basically (To the Rays wasn’t bad tho). Shogun is probably when their production was at their best and they tried really hard, this album gives off a more melodic death vibe (Kirisute Gomen is just omggg). When they returned with In waves I wasn’t disappointed, It was a good album with really only like 3 or 4 good songs. Vengeance Falls was when they made more experiments, also Disturbed vibes and the atmosphere was on point. EVERYONE already knows about Silence in the Snow, a complete fail to me, the only thing I like is on how it was very, very original. Also Matt’s voice blew and etc so yeah

What's interesting is when people bash a song with no screaming then make pre-conceptions about a whole album but somehow forget Dying In Your Arms from Ascendancy. Melodic song with what, 5 seconds of screaming? Man open your minds guys, there's a whole word out there, explore it for a change.
On a more positive, I like this direction. Has a mature Shogun-esque vibe to it. Can't wait.

Can I ask what exactly makes a 'generic, bland rock radio song'? Because barring a solo and that bridge section in Dying In Your Arms, these two songs share pretty much identical qualities and traits.

    • @BenMurphyMusician

Yeah I can agree that it's certainly got more bite, no disagreement there. So does the dislike comes from the varying execution you can implicate on a song?

Absolutely. I don’t understand how some people don’t get into any music at all. There’s some amazing shit out there waiting to be discovered. Some music almost inspires your soul and you can feel that energy coursing through your body. I used to be a singer in a band (yep one of those dudes) Performing live for hundreds of people is the most amazing feeling. It’s almost a religious experience for me. And when certain fans connect to your music and that energy you’re referring to? Best high of my life. (Not just a natural high) sorry. I love music and believe it could actually be a somewhat useful tool to bring us together as a society but people are to stubborn and stuck in their own ways.

Soon you'll have to face it
Your distance from reality won't bury or erase it
I tried to do the same
    Living so complacent
But the problems wouldn't go away so I turned around to face them
    Tell me

Очень много раз слышал эту композицию, но клип увидел сегодня. Дядя 37 лет и я получил удовольствие от визуальной художественной постановки света в клипе. Получаю максимальное удовольствие от аудио и звукоряда.

Well, it's been nearly a year since it's been released and my first 50 listen through's I could not stand this song at all, but now, I truly see it is a beautiful masterpiece. Maybe a year ago I was just not in the right place mentally to accept the message this song sends.

I'm definitely getting the album cover for this song as a tattoo
Trivium has been a strong proponent of my mental health improvement for years and this song speaks too much truth.
Even our memories work off of emotion and seeing things in a loving perspective or a hateful perspective will even affect how memories awaken or present themselves
Love Trivium eternally. Matt Heafy ftw🤘🏿🖤

This was it. This was what took me from a casual fan of the genre to a hardcore fan. I’ve listened to a lot that’s traditionally considered heavier or better but this is still a favorite to some wonderful and irrational part of me. This is the song that made me want to learn to play a guitar.
