The song “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face”, from the musical “My Fair Lady”, alludes to the possibility that not only do we get used to the faces of those we connect with mentally and emotionally, but we can even come to prefer them over so-called perfect-looking people. All this to say: we don’t need to let the media and the advertising world shape our viewpoint of attractiveness as you expressed very well.
