I can converse with my neighbors across the globe with the S24 in my hand. Merci Beaucoup, Samsung!!!
I just preordered . I waited 3 years to upgrade when I used to upgrade every year. The phones have gotten good enough to last that long or even longer. 7 years of support is big. I also cannot wait for the Samsung ring. I almost bought an Oura, but would love to keep it in the Samsung Health Eco system.
I would say their phones have been good enough since the Note 9 to last for years. It's just that they stopped supporting it with security patches after four years. They only announced seven years of support because Google is doing since they announced it last year with Pixel 8.

The only reason I upgraded to the Note 9 was because my Note 4 didn't turn on anymore. I would have kept my Note 9 but it was stolen, it worked well until the day it was gone. I was just looking at the s24 Ultra because maybe they might have some good trade in deals and my Note 20 Ultra will lose security support next year so I was wondering if it's worth upgrade now or later. The longer battery life would be great too.
It's become apparent year after year phones haven't had much change BUT I must say this phone I'm impressed with! It's not just small minute details too.
Google Translate was launched in 2006 and has had a smartphone app since 2010. I appreciate this is Samsung doing their own thing but honestly it's hard to get excited about translate features in 2024.
Offline on device translate is interesting in case network doesn't work while traveling or privacy freaks, Google translate requires network and is cooperative with US law enforcement

I ordered the S24 today because if you are familiar with more second and third world countries, high-speed data connections for Google Translate usage can be hit or miss. Having something that's able to translate on the fly without an active data connection is a big deal in those types of environments, especially if you're not absolutely fluent in that language. So while this may not be an important feature for most Americans, for the ones that do international travel on a regular basis...it could be one of the most utilized tools.

Massive improvement on the AI side compared to the iPhone. The software update and security dedication is a page taken from Apple and finally caught up - Apple has had this service over 10 years ago. The iPhone is still the only phone that has a lidar for both front and rear side. Also, the HDR image and videos captured by the iPhone is simply incredible. They are almost indistinguishable to a professional camera.
