Oops... This is where the calendar on a phone comes in handy. If you have one. Once wires are on, pick a date to check them. Enter it on the calendar as an event and a notification will sound on that day. It comes up on the screen as a reminder. Great video! I actually think it looks better after the restyle!

      Yes, really nice idea!
I do like the tree too. I was selling it, but am now considering keeping it!

How beautifully you styled it. 👌

Just love the final stylings! Not what you originally planned for, but equally pleasing. Nature has a way of making sure that no two trees look the same - reminds me to check some of my wired trees today 🙂

One thing I was taught in my bonsai journey is to apply vaseline to areas where the wire has bitten in. Over the next few days the vaseline will spread between the wire and the branch. After a week, you should be able to cut the wire without pulling a layer of the bark with it. Doesn't stop the indenting but definitely cab really help with scarring

I am seeing n looking from a far Sir, redesign of a ficus bonsai.
    What kind the ficus?
    Ficus elegan or Ficus Coreana?
I hope the bonsai grows well n beautiful at the future.
Greeting one hobby Bonsai from Indonesia.
    Good luck Sir.

I think I branded it ficus retusa, but I am not sure!

Glad to see oyu working on some different Ficus and I eespecially like the way that last one is developing. I am interested to know whether you do any pruning once they come inside? I have in the past pruned in December and had ok results but this year I was thinking of leaving them untouched. Any thoughts?

I often do nothing, as I do not provide anything for them. Only if we have had very sunny winters will these need any work in winter. NOrmally they just "are" in winter.

Could you plant that large branch you removed and grow it as anoyjer raft. The scared trunk would be under ground

I could have. But it instead went onto the compost as I do not have indoor growing space left!

Hey Jelle, what soil do you use for your bonsai?

In my experience, ficus retusa wire scars grow out and become less noticeable with time, so it’s strange that yours don’t. I had some wire dig in about as much as yours, and a year later I can’t even tell it happened

Possibly your climate allows for faster growth.

What ficus is it? like the genus?

in my climate (borneo) this should not a problem at all because scar like that will heal faster. if scar worse then that, i will choose bigger pot and feed it after a month. after the scar heal i place my bonsai to original pot. i had 6 verity of this tree and all has fast heal rate.

Climate envy here! For these species it is funny to see how dificult people in temperate zone find it to grow them, whereas in the tropics they grow on any expose surface!. Since I realized their natural growing habitat mine do much better. But scares remain challenging here!

Hallo jelle, finde deine Videos cool. Wieso machst du keine auf deutsch?

    • @GrowingBonsai
      @GrowingBonsai  Рік тому

Thank you. I am not sure why I would make videos in German? UA-cam provides subtitles in all languages, so anybody who does not understand English can just use subtitles.

Außerdem hat man mehr Reichweite, wenn man Videos auf englisch macht. Sprechen bzw. verstehen halt mehr Leute englisch als deutsch
