He’s probably referencing an actual historical event from 2007, the Dai Hong Dan incident when the US navy and North Korean sailors fought against, you guessed it, Somali pirates.
I just looked up Operation Cowboy. It turns out that Alois Podhajsky, the director of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, wrote 'The Dancing White Horses of Vienna.' Walt Disney then made the movie Miracle of the White Stallions (sometimes called 'Flight of the White Stallions') loosely based on Podhajsky's account in 1963. It is free to watch on UA-cam, too. I have to check that one out sometime.

Itter castle needs to made into a major motion picture, in the same vein as Saving Private Ryan. Its such an interesting story. And also demonstrate that not all Germans were die hards.
In the movie 'Patton' after the war is over Patton gives a casual interview with reporters while riding a white horse around a corral somewhere in southern Germany or Austria. I wonder if this was related to the Lippizanners or completely random.
And over glamorized. Many stories were underrepresented and americans led to believe they won the war singlehandedly. Its really nuts to think that Americans are the good guys from any perspective.

The incident over the city of Niš did occurred when there was celebration of anniversary of October revolution. Among the Soviet army, in the parade there were Yugoslavian army as well. In that incident there were shot down 7 P-38's an 3 Jak-3 planes. Similar with P-38 being delivered to Germany, also to Yugoslavia were delivered P-38 L Lightning and B-17 G. They were stationed in Sombor Airfield (today's Serbia) at the final stages of WWII in Yugoslavia (on 30th of April both plane landed). There are two rumors about the B-17 G. One is that it remained on Sombor airfield for 2 to 3 days, before it flew to USSR, while other says it was in service in Yugoslavian air force for 1 year. After that, the plane was retired from service since there were no spare parts for that plane. As for the P-38 Lighting, the plane did remain in Yugoslavian air force till 1946. Also believe it or not Yugoslavia received 9 P-51 D mustangs, and 4 B-24 J bombers beside's the mentioned planes.

To be fair, there was also monarchists in their forces as well as pro democracy elements, and independence movements. The white army was pretty much everything to the right of communism and had a lot of factions.

Love it when in any explanation of Russian actions they describe it as rational decision. What would the Russians attack their American allies intentionally?? What does it mean they decided it "wasn't worth" attacking the Americans? Why would they even consider such a thing that could lead to war between them?

You're absolutely correct. The Indian legion as it was known were an SS regiment who ended up fighting in the Atlantic wall, many battles in Italy and in the battle of Berlin. They were mostly fed up with British occupation of India, although alot more Indians fought for the British against the Japanese.

Stiglar was a true warrior. Not a killer? Not a murderer but a warrior.
Everyone in the German army knows of stiglitz.

Stallions? Those were mares. Then again, it's Walt Disney. He was always a bit confused on that subject.
