That was the course everyone raced on then. Except for some turn-off here and there for smaller, for kart racing, that was it. The two biggest differences between now and then was, the start - finish straight was the drag strip, and the added chicane, at turn eight and nine. And getting rid of "Gilligan's Island", which was 5-7 pitstalls on the other side of the main straight in front of the timing tower. After their pit stops were done, they were held for 15 second to pay back the time they would gain over the cars in the regular pit lane.
Here some feedback: Lowering the AI difficulty would make PCars2 videos more entertaining. Way too often the video goes like this: gaining a few places in the first laps when the AI is a bit slow driving in a pack, but then AI picks up pace and the cars in front just disappears. Cars behind are either slow or afraid to make a pass (sometimes they are afraid to pass due to dirty blocking manoeuvers). If they pass, they usually disappear in the horizon in no time. Usually your fastest lap is way slower than AI, unless there are damaged cars. Don't force yourself using the highest difficulty, if you can't stay on pace with them. Difficulty over 100 allows AI to cheat anyways, you can verify this by doing a driver swap to AI driver and looking the power levels at the telemetry-HUD. When AI difficulty is over 100, the AI driver have more engine power than player. There is a lot of room to lower the difficulty; in this race you wasn't on pace even with the backmakers. Sure it is sometimes hard to find the perfect difficulty for certain cars/tracks/conditions. On the other hand, better to watch most of the time decent races with say 100-110 difficulty than most of the time meh races with a couple of good ones at 120 difficulty, right?
I always wondered that, I mean look at #66 acceleration in this video... and in my own experience I've played at 120 and just to test it, I took away all downforce, 0 cooling to engine and brakes, and still get gapped by the exact same car as mine, yet they can corner faster. Good to know!
Yeah I'm from Sonoma and grew up racing the karting circuit when I was a kid. I've also done the big track and put many many hours into the sim. Gotta say you ain't bad. The bend before the hairpin - - you can really fly through there if you prepare the corner in 4th, downshift and brake on the right hand curbs before entering the corner and then squeeze the throttle to float the car over the curbs you'll enter the hairpin with about 2-5 mph advantage. Hard to explain in a comment :/
Before the cup cars NASCAR's Western series (running the same specs), then called Winston West, ran there for a number of years. They went straight up the drag strip, with plenty of high-speed drafting, and came back down the second half of the road course. More than once a couple of Winston Cup drivers joined the field. It was good racing.
Coming from F1 (but still American), NASCARs look like they drive like the worst combo of F1's bad handling tropes: Lotus 49 levels of grip and extremely snappy if you step out of bounds even a little bit. Drivers must have a lot of fun with these...
They have to brake far earlier than any F1 car from the past 30 years has to brake too, but they have like the same amount of horsepower, so it's very tricky lol.
Heavy car, small tire surface area, a lot of horsepower, definitely takes skill. Just take one for a spin on iRacing full throttle, you’d be surprised how hard ovals can be lol
it's endlessly entertaining to watch these elephants try to ballet dance around the "esses" section, you can see (and hear) them struggling so mightily but that's what makes them so much fun.
I don't think we need to worry about safety. And lap times don't matter and the course would be even more challenging than it is. Everyone else uses the boot.
Lap times will greatly increase and so will race times. They have never raced in the boot but they are mid-speed corners so there is also some danger to it. We have already lost JD Mcduffy (don’t remember his last name) at this track and NASCAR wants to avoid danger for the drivers
I'm not joking instead...I do really want a NASCAR and Monza Oval Video. I live in Italy and there are a lot of pressure to make Monza OVal shiny and raceable again.
How did you know exactly what I wanted at the moment! I was literally thinking about how the racing will be there! Reccomended list well done 👍 (and David)
I gotta try this out, this has always been my favorite NASCAR track. Makes me wonder if they'll add the boot to Watkins Glen. I'm not in favor of adding the boot at the Glen, just wondering.
They have been talking about it for years. And how can adding more turns REDUCE passing opportunities? All the turns they have now will still be there, plus four more. Since the speeds will be lower entering turn 10, I think that improves the chances for a clean pass, instead of a divebomb attempt.
This is one of the tracks where the new aero package that increases downforce could actually work. Would like to see how the next year's cars run around the corners. And also, maybe they should have a road course package (like a wider set of tires) to increase mechanical grip.
The new package is only for most 1.5 mile tracks. All tracks that are 1 mile in length or under plus all 3 road courses will still have the same package as this year. Although every race next year will have an 8×61 inch spoiler which will help with downforce but that would be the only change.
It wouldn’t surprise me if in the next 5 years they borrow from rallycross and make them take a “joker” lap every 10 laps where they go on the current section here and Watkins Glen but the GP courses of each are used for the full track.
Didn’t pc2 not add Chevy and Toyota because the bodies were the same? That’s not true the noses on each car is different like the fusions is rounded and smooth
Yeah wish there was more from the stock cars. More tracks. I wish the tracks they had they would get rid of all the cones and the walls on the inside of the pit rod that aren’t actually there and stuff.
I only wish I could race you here on the same track at Sonoma. It would be against your stock car and my American LA Man's Audi R8 in the video game. Yes in Gran Turismo, that the car I race at Sonoma.
I wonder why the project cars 2 leagues don't use the manual formation lap system, they usually just start the race and do their own formation lap, its odd, you retain manual control the entire time yet they still don't use it, pretty dumb if u ask me
Even with manual rolling starts, the cars does start moving with AI control. This has caused carnage in some cases before players gain control when the AI does stupid things. As a result, it is better to remove that risk by using fully manual rolling start.
The car starts moving initially with manual rolling start with the AI.With a lag burst occurring when the players take control, as well as speed jolts, people can receive lots of damage.
Is Monaco In Project Cars 2 Because I'm just curious If You could run Indycars at Monaco Street Circuit Because of Toronto's a Street Circuit As Well could You do a Video about it Please.
Only 14? Another point for NR2003. Modern racing games and some sims don't give players enough credit for their customers abilities, or their owns. Less than full fields, game controlled, starts, restarts, pit stops, and my biggest complaint, skipping ahead on yellow flags. You may want to change your strategy, and come into the pits again once you've seen what everyone else did, even if it's against the AI.
I really hope by 2025 NASCAR will have more then 5 raid course races with a couple new tracks...hopefully... We need more road course races!! Like if you agree
The proper name of the car is a "stock car" not a "nascar". NFL players are not called NFLs the cars are stock cars. National association of stock car auto racing. No they are not stock at all but that's still the proper name for them. When people call them nascars it sounds really silly.
AOR SmokingPuppy841 no I don’t :/ bc I have a ps4 and I just thought they would have more mechanical grip because the stock car just doesn’t turn that well
PC2 has its positives and negatives, but it's not garbage. Also, do you even know how iRacing works? If we're going with a PC sim then rFactor 2 would be a better choice than iRacing for this anyway given the fact that you wouldn't have to make a custom lobby and wait for however many people to join and hopefully not drive like a jackass.
This is the course the NASCAR cup series originally raced on.

@@DDS029 I remember gilligans island. So glad they got rid of that eventually.

Wooo, thank doing this man
Yes David thanks for the great video

DO u even NR2003, speedy boi?
2019 FORD IN NASCAR ARE FORD MUSTANGS NOT FORD FUSIONS
Project Cars 2 doesnt have the Mustang

I love seeing NASCAR on a road course. I usually get a V8 Supercar feeling :)
Yeah I'm from Sonoma and grew up racing the karting circuit when I was a kid. I've also done the big track and put many many hours into the sim. Gotta say you ain't bad. The Cars Workout Fine. Alot Of Driver Talent Is Needed
They have to brake far earlier than any F1 car from the past 30 years has to brake too, but they have like the same amount of horsepower, so it's very tricky lol.
The cars being so bad is what makes even oval racing appealing.
That is the best part. These cars are *supposed* to be hard to drive
Next try NASCAR at Walkins Glen with it's full course through the boot
Tyler Loughridge they don’t run that due to safety concerns and lap times. That’s also why they run the bus stop.
But isn't the boot layout of Walkins Glen slower its more turns actually than what Nascar uses I don't know why it would be any less safer.
I don't think we need to worry about safety. And lap times don't matter and the course would be even more challenging than it is. Everyone else uses the boot.
I raced the Glen with this car with the boot in this game and and it's possible
Lap times will greatly increase and so will race times. They have never raced in the boot but they are mid-speed corners so there is also some danger to it. We have already lost JD Mcduffy (don’t remember his last name) at this track and NASCAR wants to avoid danger for the drivers

Raise Da Hell oh trust me, its gonna be interesting
Too bad if you don't have NR2003 by Papyrus racing sim. Every used version of Monza is available somewhere. Even just the oval.
I would love to see Cup go to Road America and Mid-Ohio. Both of those are awesome technical road courses.
I’m going to this race it’s going to be great!!!
The boot is a better layout fro driving, but has less overtaking opportunities which is what NASCAR wants I think.
They have been talking about it for years.
And how can adding more turns REDUCE passing opportunities? All the turns they have now will still be there, plus four more. Since the speeds will be lower entering turn 10, I think that improves the chances for a clean pass, instead of a divebomb attempt.
DDS029 if by 10 you mean the penultimate turn you cannot overtake their on the GP layout, not enough space between it and the corner before.
I did this configuration to! Not at 120 Ai tho! Love it! Project cars has so much to offer
For $$$$$$$
Them cars on project cars 2 looks like ARCA Menards series
Yes, yes I like it! It's like racing on my Gran Turismo race game. Which I do constantly in every event. Including the enderance race.
So basically, IM MONKY
I can barely survive a formation lap with stock cars in this game, nice worl
Taking away "the carousel" was the worst thing NASCAR ever did. Glad to see it back.
Nascar stopped using that layout back in 97. I didn't see a problem with the previous but this layout does add a few more passing zones.
That looks like a whole lot of fun. Great video
2:10 The helmet cam, "lets go to our in-race analyzer"
That configuration is available in may sims, not just P.Cars 2, rFactor, rFactor 2 and NASCAR Racing 2003 to name a few.

Pretty much. I heard that they said it would be a waste of time to add two more stock cars, even for a dlc.
The Meme PC2 didn't add it because of licensing mainly.
Jacob Johnson the Stockcar class is unpopular, and they wouldn't fit into any DLC pick.
Forza Motorsport 7 only has the cars of Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, and Chase Elliott out of the box.
Yeah wish there was more from the stock cars. More tracks. I wish the tracks they had they would get rid of all the cones and the walls on the inside of the pit rod that aren’t actually there and stuff.
Congrats on 40K. Also could you please bring back nascar heat 3. Thank you
I wish they'd move the race date back to the spring. The track looks a lot prettier when the grass is green.
I only wish I could race you here on the same track at Sonoma. It would be against your stock car and my American LA Man's Audi R8 in the video game. Yes in Gran Turismo, that the car I race at Sonoma.
Im going to miss the Robby Gordon corner. But the carousel, and double apex hairpin make up for it.
Project cars 2 really is a beautiful game

How does this have 8 likes, I guess 8 people don't test out game functions.
My road course record:
1st lap: Best lap of the race.
Rest of race: Blue flag!
Last lap: Limp to checkered.
I always ram into 5 different cars on lap 1 and have to limp home from there
I'm usually getting creamed by cars who spin off track and immediately go back to the racing line before they're fully under control and up to speed.
The thumbnail seriously fooled me for a real car on track.
#51, nice.
Gordon needs to step into a car for Sonoma again

they'll race the full course in Sonoma next year, but won't race the full course in the Roval........
Next step is to include the Glen's boot !
This is the Sonoma layout NASCAR should race on to this day.
The Chute makes Sonoma racing even more boring
Can’t wait for the eventual carousel return in NH4
I wonder if they'll add it to heat 3 if there's a 2019 update
@@BLyonsDesign they better

David, you gotta get more aggressive when racing. You're WAY TOO PATIENT. You gotta use the bumper sometimes
Im going to that race.
I do wish I could race the real one as well!
How many laps with the new configuration?
You can now race with 14 AI without issues by the way David
Only 14? Another point for NR2003. Modern racing games and some sims don't give players enough credit for their customers abilities, or their owns.

I just realized you guys could have been talking about something unique to this game about the "14 AI", that I am not familiar with.
DDS029 the OG Xbox One isn't powerful enough to handle more than 14 AI, but it used to be 12 AI.
Why can’t they use a 6 speed for road courses
What is your steering sensitivity at?
If anyone ask? Its Gran Turismo 4 that has Sonoma OK.
